“Call Her Ganda,” director Pj Raval’s non-fiction investigation into the death of a Filipina sex worker at the hands of an American Marine on leave, should function as a murder mystery, courtroom drama, and exposé about the U.S.’s thorny post-colonial relationship with the Philippines. Yet with access to only one side of its central conflict, and a scattershot approach that skims over key details and points of interest, this well-intentioned documentary leaves audiences feeling like they’re only getting part of a much larger story. After its Tribeca Film Festival debut, its theatrical prospects seem slim.

Creative Assembly and Sega are teaming up once more to bring us an all new game, Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia. Thrones of Britannia is a new historical strategy game and first title in a new Total War Saga series from the company. Check out the announce video below:

The Norse warlords are firmly established, but the ambitious kings of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales have aspirations of their own – not least the great King Alfred of Wessex. Britannia is a furnace of possibilities, from which the template for modern Britain will be forged, across the most detailed Total War campaign map ever made.
Series director Mike Simpson had this to say about the game:

You know that old chestnut: don’t go into a big, creepy cave you’re not familiar with in search of a missing person who, incidentally enough, also went into that same cave in search of a family that’s been missing for decades.
Mark Dennis and Ben Foster’s latest film, “Time Trap,” throws that (extremely solid) advice right out the proverbial window in service to an innovative new sci-fi adventure that rips apart both space and time at its very seams. Featuring a cast that includes Cassidy Gifford, Reiley McClendon, Brianne Howey, Olivia Draguicevich, Max Wright, and Andrew Wilson, “Time Trap” takes an already scary premise and bolsters it with some truly twisted riffs on time travel. Again, maybe don’t go in the weird cave.

Sega and Creative Assembly have made the tough decision to delay Total War: Warhammer for an entire month, but why? Well, according to the game’s creative director, Mike Simpson, the delay is simply a case of making sure reviewers are given enough time to thoroughly play through and test the real-time strategy before it ships for public sale. Simpson said:
This could be the best Total War game we’ve ever made. We don’t want to rush it. It’s an enormous game and we also want to make absolutely sure reviewers have enough time to play it thoroughly before launch. Many thanks to the huge number of people who have pre-ordered and are eagerly awaiting release day. We’re pulling out all the stops for you.

Quentin Tarantino ‘The Hateful Eight’ screenplay leak Quentin Tarantino will no longer be making the Western The Hateful Eight. Why not? Well, Tarantino claims he sent out the film’s screenplay to a group of six people, one of whom allegedly showed it to his agent, who then showed it to other agents, who then began calling Tarantino’s agent Mike Simpson, asking him to cast their clients in the film. (Photo: The Hateful Eight screenwriter Quentin Tarantino.) “I’m very, very depressed,” Tarantino was quoted as saying at Deadline.com, which first broke The Hateful Eight Screenplay Leak story on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. “I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.” Now, before they begin flailing and wailing, Quentin Tarantino fans should be...

Quentin Tarantino’s next project was supposed to be the western “The Hateful Eight,” but unfortunately for Tarantino fans, that movie now won’t see the light of day. The film isn’t being shelved for regular movie-making reasons, such as finding the right stars or having enough money. It’s being shelved because someone thought it was a good idea to leak the script. According to Entertainment Weekly, a source close to the director has confirmed that the film’s screenplay was leaked, leading to the decision to shelve the film. Never one to shirk the limelight, Quentin Tarantino recently announced that his next movie was to be a Western titled The Hateful Eight. Well, it now appears that that particular project won’t be happening – at least not any time soon, at least – due to the writer/director having a bit of a wobble at the screenplay having leaked online. Tarantino spoke to Deadline about his frustrations.
Open about his anxiety over the leak, Tarantino confessed, “I’m very, very depressed. I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.” Most recently having directed Django Unchained, Tarantino revealed that his agent, Mike Simpson, broke the news to him after having received several calls from agents looking to suggest their clients for roles in the Western.

What happens when you betray Quentin Tarantino by leaking his script? You get called out in the press by the man himself.
When the legendary writer/director recently finished the first draft of the script for The Hateful Eight – an ensemble western – he very carefully placed it in the hands of six people, in confidence. In a twist filled with enough intrigue and betrayal to fill a script of its own, he discovered that someone had broken the circle of trust when his agent, Mike Simpson, became inundated with calls from other agents, pitching their own clients for roles in the film. Upset, it seems Tarantino picked up the phone to Deadline.

In a perfect example of why you shouldn't piss off Quentin Tarantino, The Hateful Eight, his recently announced follow up to Django Unchained, has been put on indefinite hold after the script, which was on its first draft, was leaked. The leak has understandably upset the director, who had pencilled shooting to begin in the winter, and he seems to be done with project for now, planning to publish the script and make it available in bookstores, and maybe revisit it in the next five years. He discovered the leak after his longtime agent Mike Simpson began getting calls from other agents pitching their clients for a role in the movie, even though he only gave the script to six people. The canceling of the project will no doubt be a bummer to fans (myself included) of the director who were looking forward to him tackling a Western again, especially when Christoph Waltz,...

I have to say, this smells of something else considering Quentin Tarantino's screenplay for Django Unchained was online almost immediately and eventually went on to win the writer/director his first screenplay Oscar since winning for Pulp Fiction script back in 1995. So basically that means the conversation that will be circulating around town following this story with Tarantino goes from an ensemble Western to a whodunit. We've always known Michael Jackson could dance, but who knew the King of Pop could moonwalk his way through a sea of Legos?
The playful video below, courtesy of Berlin-based animator Annette Jung, features a two-dimensional, toy brick version of the "Billie Jean" singer bustin' his signature dance moves. Lego Jackson (as we like to think he's called) dons the white socks/black shoes combination just like in the original video, and even ends his dance routine with a gesture only Mj can pull off. Check it out:
We can only hope Jung is hard at work recreating Jackson's "Thriller" video as a Lego animation right now. What better way to keep the great pop star's spirit alive, right? Let us know what you think of "Lego Jackson" in the comments section. For more Lego-inspired art projects, check out Mike Simpson's "Classics in Legos" project in the slideshow below.

Daniel Day-Lewis as Vincent Vega? Almost two decades after the release of Quentin Tarantino's game-changing Pulp Fiction, it's impossible to imagine anyone else in the role made famous by John Travolta. But in a new Vanity Fair expose on the making of the 1994 Oscar winner, Travolta's career was so "cold" that producer Harvey Weinstein fought it tooth and nail.
Here are five shocking truths about the making of the movie, taken from the March issue of Vanity Fair, on newsstands in New York and L.A. on January 31 and nationally and on the iPad, Nook, and Kindle on February 5.

The latest issue of Vanity Fair is about to hit stands and inside the pages of the magazine is a presumably long and exhaustingly good oral history of Quentin Tarantino's seminal '90s work, "Pulp Fiction." Online, Vanity Fair has published what one assumes is a truncated version of said oral history, but man, it's still damn good. There's lots of juicy bits inside. Uma Thurman wasn't sure she wanted to appear in the picture because of the gimp/rape scene, Harvey Weinstein was dead-set against giving the role of Vincent Vega to John Travolta and more. But perhaps the most striking elements are the early casting choices. Weinstein instead wanted Sean Penn or William Hurt for the Vega role, but according to Mike Simpson, Tarantino’s agent at William Morris Endeavor. “Daniel Day-Lewis and Bruce Willis, who was the biggest star in Hollywood, had both gotten their hands...

In the 19 years since "Pulp Fiction" hit theaters, the film that made Quentin Tarantino a superstar has become a bona fide cinematic classic. Hell, it was a classic from the moment it first screened at the Cannes Film Festival. But as a new oral history of the film in Vanity Fair shows, "Pulp Fiction" was almost a very different film.
Forget Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis and John Travolta. How about "Pulp Fiction" starring Paul Calderon, Matt Dillon and Daniel Day-Lewis?
Yes, crazy as it sounds, that was almost the cast of "Pulp Fiction," with the most intriguing prospect being the idea of Day-Lewis (who is likely about to win his record two billionth Oscar for "Lincoln") in Travolta's iconic role as Vincent Vega. Day-Lewis, as it turns out, had read the script and desperately wanted the role, but Tarantino was dead set on Travolta, even though Travolta's career was essentially over.

Can you imagine Daniel Day-Lewis arguing with Samuel L. Jackson about the meaning of foot massages? Well, at one point in the development process of "Pulp Fiction," Harvey Weinstein could.
As relayed to Vanity Fair, Weinstein was not all that pleased when Tarantino, a then-upstart, said he wanted John Travolta to play the role of Vincent Vega.
"One of the actors I had on the list was John Travolta," Tarantino said to Vanity Fair contributing editor Mark Seal. "And it came back: 'The entire list is approved ... except for John Travolta.' So I got together with Harvey, and he's like, 'I can get Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Penn, William Hurt.'" As Tarantino's agent, Mike Simpson, recalled to Seal, Day-Lewis had apparently read the script and wanted the part. That, coupled with Travolta's career, which was described as "cold," put Ddl in the driver's seat for Weinstein.

Tarantino Xx arrived on Blu-ray, and it is the premiere, must-own collection of his work. The set includes Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Death Proof, and Inglourious Basterds. In addition to these films, the set includes two discs containing five hours of all-new bonus material, highlighted by a critics’ retrospective on Quentin Tarantino’s groundbreaking catalog of films and “20 Years of Filmmaking" that contains interviews with critics, stars, and other masters of cinema. Tarantino Xx is my favorite Blu-ray set and is the most comprehensive look into a director's career that I own.
This disc is wonderfully packaged with beautiful artwork from Mondo artist Ken Taylor. I liked the art so much that I used it for my Twitter background and header image. The set comes in a sleeve with great art on all sides. Inside is the coolest packaging I could ever hope for.

To many, grand scale strategy games are seemingly incompatible with anything but the PC. There have been console equivalents to games such as those in the Total War franchise, but none have come close to competing with the keyboard and mouse in terms of deep and intuitive controls. Yet this is not what will keep games like Total War: Rome II from invading the consoles, it is the lack of power.
Mike Simpson, studio director of The Creative Assembly, revealed as much when speaking to Eurogamer:
“Total War on console, the reason it’s not there has never been about control. There has never been a control reason not to have the game on console – that’s not the problem. It’s a difficult design problem, trying to figure out how to control a game like that with a pad, but even that is a solvable problem – it just requires some clever design.

A sequel to Rome: Total War, released in 2004 and developed by Creative Assembly, has been announced by Sega.
The sequel will be released in 2013, featuring a whole new graphics engine and the biggest real time battles in the series’ history.
The game will feature the ability to build empires, restore the republic or become a hated tyrant. The sequel seems to promise more accessibility to specifics, Mike Simpson, Game Director said: “Our games have always encompassed a grand vision. But we’re now pushing that vision at both ends of the spectrum.
“From the immense reach of the sandbox campaign right down to the human-level drama of a single warrior on the battlefield, we’re aiming for an unprecedented level of detail and scale.”

The Total War franchise is capable of spanning the entirety of history, but it is a return to Rome that remains the most requested direction for the strategic series to take. Following recent rumours, Sega have now officially announced that Total War: Rome II is due to invade in 2013.
Once again under the command of The Creative Assembly, this title is being described as ”the most expansive turn-based campaign and the largest, most cinematic real-time battles yet seen in any game.” Much is being made of this enormity of scale, with creative boss Mike Simpson also saying that:

The 2011 Black List, the Top Unproduced Screenplays of the year has been released. The best unproduced screenplays from The Black List 2011 is compiled by votes from over 300 “execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”
Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:
some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

The Black List of 2011 continues with the second-half of the list showcasing the screenplays that received the most number of votes.
Remember, this is a list voted on by Hollywood professionals of what they personally believe to be the best unproduced screenplays written in 2011. You might recognize titles for movies that are in development. That's fine by The Black List rules; the only condition that the screenplay must meet is that it's not being filmed within this calendar year. For Black List 2011 selections like Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, that makes it valid for Black List inclusion.
If you've missed the first half of the list you can find it here.
13 Votes:
The Accountant by Bill Dubuque
The Treasury Department pursues a brilliant, autistic accountant who doubles as an assassin and “problem-solves” with precision in more ways than one.
Agency: Paradigm
Agent: Trevor Astbury
Management: Zero Gravity Management
Manager: Eric Williams...

The 2011 Black List has arrived online and there are a bunch of the hottest scripts in Hollywood. Some have already been picked up by studios, while most are still unproduced. Here is the press release: The Black List was compiled from the suggestions of over 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.
This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the The Black List.
All reasonable effort has been made to confirm the information contained herein. The Black List apologizes for all misspellings, misattributions, incorrect representation identification, and questionable 2011 affiliations.
It has been said many times, but it's worth repeating:
The Black List is not a "best of" list. It is, at best, a "most liked" list.

[1] Each December since 2004, studio executive Franklin Leonard has compiled the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted by hundreds of execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year's list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman. It should be noted that the headline is somewhat misleading -- some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though according to Leonard none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.
