Korean Oscar-winning actor Youn Yuh-jung has been the focus of attention for the past week as the subject of a retrospective series at The Academy Museum in Los Angeles.
Youn came to the attention of many late in her career playing the grandmother role in Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari.” But her entertainment history dates back to one of Korean cinema’s golden eras and a screen-scorching 1971 debut in legendary director Kim Ki-young’s “Woman of Fire.”
“Youn refused to compromise her practice to serve the patriarchal systems which dominate the majority of mainstream cinema in Korea. As an iconic figure and role model to many actors in Korea, Youn continues to push boundaries in her incredible scope of storytelling, routed through her bold and forthright perception of each character she portrays,” says the Academy’s notes to the seven-film series.

Return to the Suck Zone It’s been 28 years since Jan de Bont’s Twister stormed through cinemas, grossing $496 million worldwide. While it became a staple of weekend cable TV, with audiences often enjoying its weather spectacles over its thin plot, its impact on meteorology and storm chasing is undeniable. The original movie starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton left a significant mark on pop culture. The sequel, Twisters, endured a long development process before Universal landed on a team led by Minari’s Lee Isaac Chung and The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith. Chung’s direction, informed by the stylistic influences of

The upcoming release of Twisters has everyone on the edge of their seats, especially after hearing the harrowing experiences some cast members endured. Glen Powell, known for his daring roles, revealed just how extreme the filming conditions got, particularly when it involved having a giant jet engine blown in his face. Filming with Intensity Director Lee Isaac Chung demanded a high level of realism for Twisters. The film famously utilized highly realistic special effects to capture the chaotic nature of tornadoes. Chung’s dedication was clear from the start, reminiscent of the thorough approach he took with Minari, making his transition

Star Wars fans who attended last April's Star Wars Celebration in London were treated to a first look at Skeleton Crew. However, more than a year later, Lucasfilm still hasn't released any of that content online (including the trailer which seemingly confirmed Jude Law is playing a Jedi).
What we do know is that the series takes place around the same time as The Mandalorian, with the expectation being that it will tie into the post-Return of the Jedi era of storytelling. How important it's going to be to the wider franchise and Dave Filoni's eventual crossover movie remains to be seen.
In the meantime, some leaked Skeleton Crew merchandise - first shared on SFFGazette.com - has offered a new look at the show's leads.

I don’t live in tornado country, so I’ve never experienced one, but they seem pretty frightening. However, Twisters star Glen Powell does have a history with tornados, and he told Total Film that he was able to bring that experience to his role.
“It’s actually something I got to incorporate a little bit into the movie,” Powell said. “I had an experience with this tornado in Jarrell, Texas. It was an F5 – one of the big ones. It decimated Jarrell. I was outrunning it with my aunt Taffy, and a car full of cousins. And I remember us having to take shelter. It didn’t get close enough to do any damage to us, but I remember the fear of being on the road when, you know, the biggest imaginable one was kind of coming through.“

It is possible to be “scared of nothin’ and … scared to death” at the same, at least so says Luke Combs, who holds his own bellowing about the virtues of the Sooner State over a torrent of wind and rain in the video for his new song, “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma.” The song comes off the upcoming soundtrack to Twisters, the 28-years-late sequel to Twister (and grammarians will note that Combs’ double-negative suggests there is love in Oklahoma, even if it’s a North Carolinian turned Nashvillian singing his heart out.

Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Entertainment was one of the production companies that backed up the 1996 film Twister. The hit disaster thriller starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, and Cary Elwes introduced storm chasers trying to contain a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. Spielberg also served as an executive producer (EP) on the film.

Many years later, Spielberg is also an EP on the standalone sequel Twisters which is coming soon to theatres. The film stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos. For Ramos’ character Javi, the actor envisioned him having a Southern accent. However, Spielberg told him to keep his natural accent for the film, which surprised Ramos.

“Twisters” executive producer Steven Spielberg didn’t want Anthony Ramos to use a Southern accent for his role, according to the actor.
Ramos, who plays storm chaser Javi in “Twisters,” said in an Entertainment Weekly interview that he thought his character would have a Southern accent.
“Then I heard Steven [Spielberg] was like, ‘No, I want him to do it in his dialect,'” Ramos recalled. “It was a little surprising to me, but it was really cool, to me, because I’ve never heard someone who speaks in my vernacular — especially this New York, Northeast, Latino dialect that I have — in a movie of this size, in a place like Oklahoma. It makes me feel it’s possible for a kid from the hood to go to a school like Ou, study meteorology, be this brilliant meteorologist and storm chaser. This is something that a kid like me could do.

Universal has unveiled a new trailer for Twisters, its upcoming sequel to the 1996 disaster thriller starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. The new spin on the franchise (pun very much intended) features a cast of rising stars including Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, and Kieran Shipka, as well as Superman himself, David Corenswet, and TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe.
But of course, the real stars of Twisters will be the tornados wrecking havoc — including one that quite literally catches on fire. Watch the newly revealed trailer below.

Being from the Midwest myself (and even facing tornado warnings in the past few weeks), it seems that the severe storms will be hitting no matter what as the spiritual sequel to Twister touches down in theaters this July. This year has seen some crazy tornadic activity for states like Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. However, Lee Issac Chung’s Twisters is taking them to a whole new level. Universal Pictures has just released the new three-minute trailer for the summer thrill ride, looking to outdo any of the cyclones that Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt encountered in the 1996 original. This time Daisy Edgar-Jones partners up with the “Tornado Wrangler,” played by Glen Powell.
The official synopsis reads, “Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.

“Twister” is one of the best (if not the best) disaster movies of all time. And a large part of why the film has endured the test of time is the incredible cast and the characters they brought to life. So, the idea of a reboot, “Twisters,” seems like it’s going to hinge on whether or not this new cast of characters can leave an impression.

It's been 28 years since Jan De Bont's "Twister" ripped through theaters and whipped up a $496 million worldwide gross. In the meantime, it's become a weekend cable mainstay, where viewers can tune out its wafer-thin plot and simply enjoy the foul weather spectacle. It's far from a classic, but its visual prowess is undeniable, and its colorful cast of storm chasers led by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt seem to be having a ball. Any film that includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Jami Gertz, Todd Field, and Lois Smith is bound to be fun on some level.
So why has it taken so long for Universal to make a sequel to the second-highest-grossing film (domestically) of 1996?
"Twisters" didn't exactly have a stormy development process, but it did go through a couple of iterations over the last four years. Joseph Kosinski was attached to direct in early 2020. When that fell through,...

Skeleton Crew is arguably one of the more intriguing Star Wars projects heading our way, with very little known about how the series will fit into the wider Galaxy Far, Far Away (we've heard next to nothing since Star Wars Celebration attendees were treated to a brief sneak peek last April).
What we do know is that the Disney+ series focuses on a group of kids who get lost in space, with Jude Law cast in the lead role as a mysterious Jedi. With a confirmed post-Return of the Jedi setting, we also anticipate it somehow tying into The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

With each new month comes a strong desire to let go of some things in order to make room for what is new. And it seems that even the biggest streaming platforms feel the same way.
That's why they update their libraries every month. There are a lot of different movies leaving Netflix in May, but these 5 are a must watch (or rewatch) if you are a fan of quality cinema.
1. Uncut Gems (2019) – May 9
Many of you may not think much of Adam Sandler, at least that's what a lot of people say out loud, even though there's a good chance they fall asleep watching Sandler's best rom-coms. But every once in a while he stars in a movie that ends up proving how brilliant of an actor he really is.
Uncut Gems has a 91% on Tomatometer and features the actor in a serious role, portraying a man named Howard Ratner.

‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ is an upcoming live-action series set to broaden the Star Wars universe. It’s set for a 2024 premiere on Disney+ (no specific release date yet) and was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.
The series follows a group of kids, probably Force-sensitive, who must embark on an adventure to find their way back home after a mysterious discovery leads them astray.
Kerry Condon, who stars in ‘Skeleton Crew,’ shared her surprise about working with children on the show. She mentioned how this production differs greatly from anything we’ve previously seen in Star Wars.
It’s so great. I don’t even have kids, but I’d pay to see this. I loved it. I loved being on it. There was something about it that was so innocent and playful and lovely. People say don’t work with kids or animals, but I don’t know about that.

Who says this summer is light on blockbuster fare, despite the strikes holding productions and release dates up?
Big movies coming to theaters in the next hot few months include favorite IP getting a 2024 burnish, from “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” to “Alien: Romulus” and “Twisters”. Oh, and a little movie called “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (May 24), which George Miller will first bring to the Cannes Film Festival before opening it in theaters later that month. Plus, poised to be a Netflix hit this summer is Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man” (May 24 in theaters), playing for a couple of weeks in select cities before the crime comedy starring Glen Powell hits the streaming platform.
But those bigger-ticket titles aside, summer 2024 is a time for indies to shine, from Annie Baker’s long-awaited festival hit “Janet Planet” (June 14) to India Donaldson’s wonderful Sundance premiere “Good One” (August...

One of Hollywood’s busiest rising stars just added another big role to his future dance card. Glen Powell is set to star in Paramount’s The Running Man reboot for Paramount Pictures. Edgar Wright will direct and produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
Based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King that the author first published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, Running Man was made famous by the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025. The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him. George Linder to exec produce.

Glen Powell has already played a hit man, so why not star as a running man?
The “Hit Man” actor/writer and “Anyone But You” star has officially been cast in Edgar Wright’s “Running Man” remake, as announced at CinemaCon 2024. The feature will be released by Paramount.
Writer/director Wright previously announced that he was adapting Stephen King’s 1982 novel “The Running Man” (published under pseudonym Richard Bachman) for another big screen iteration in 2021. Deadline reported at the time that Wright will be teaming with his “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” screenwriter Michael Bacall to be as faithful to the source material as possible. The project was hinted at since 2017 with Wright tweeting that it’s the one film he would want to remake.

Twisters stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos blew the house down during an appearance at CinemaCon on Wednesday night (April 10).
The trio took the stage at Caesars Colosseum in Las Vegas, Nevada to share an exclusive look at the forthcoming movie, which is a sequel to the 1996 original. In a reference to the movie’s theme, they blew leaves across the venue. Anthony even carried a blown-away cow around with him!

According to Deadline, the footage that was presented highlighted Glen and Daisy‘s onscreen chemistry.
While onstage, Glen referenced the intense filming experience, which seemingly relied on practical effects instead of CGI.

Twisters might be all tornadoes wrecking the Earth, but at the heart of it is a good banter romance, and that’s what Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell have got going on in the latest trailer shown Wednesday at CinemaCon.
That gal-guy back and forth was what was also at the heart of the original 1996 Twister movie starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.
“You think you can interrupt a tornado,” Powell’s cowboy tornado chaser asks Edgar-Jones’ city girl.
“In theory,” she answers, “in the field and in the moment, I got it wrong. We never had a chance.”
“You want one?” Powell asks, giving her an invitation for a good time.

Director Lee Isaac Chung introduced the footage today during Universal’s presentation at Caesars Colosseum for what he said was his first CinemaCon.

Twisters stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as opposing forces who come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes. Twisters got some major love during Universal’s presentation at CinemaCon, with the audience getting to see an extended preview of the movie.
The extended preview starts off at a rodeo, which is disrupted by a giant tornado as bulls and horses run wild amidst the chaos. We see scenes of Powell’s character as assembles a group of storm chasers as two tornados combine to form a super tornado. “It’s alright to be scared… fear is the reason you do it,” Powell’s character says. “You don’t face your fears, you ride them.” Our own Chris Bumbray said that the new footage looks huge with tons of stuff happening, but he added that it looks...

It's been nearly 30 years since tornadoes took the box office by storm with the arrival of the thrilling summer blockbuster "Twister," starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as a pair of estranged ex-lovers who also happen to be passionate storm chasers. Now, Universal Pictures is stirring the storms up yet again with "Twisters."
Though early reports indicated that "Twisters" would follow the daughter of Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt's characters, it appears the movie is a stand-alone sequel without any characters from the original movie returning. Instead, this is a new chapter following Daisy Edgar-Jones ("Where the Crawdads Sing"), Glen Powell ("Top Gun: Maverick"), Anthony Ramos ("In the Heights"), and Sasha Lane ("Loki"), in an original story that promises to bring the high-speed suspense of "Twister" back to theaters.

There are plenty of ways to describe what happened at Caesars Palace on Wednesday when Universal Pictures delivered Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters to the Colosseum stage. Some examples: The film whipped up a frenzy; exclusive footage spun through Sin City; action scenes blew away theater owners, etc., etc.
All of the above work as Universal debuted never-before-seen scenes of the summer release courtesy of Chung and his castmembers Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, who turned up for an extended introduction.
Chung was first to walk out — an appearance that marked his first time at CinemaCon — and the director said that many in the audience might be wondering why he decided to jump into summer blockbuster tentpole territory after carving out a career in independent film. “I’ve been fascinated by tornadoes all my life,” he said, adding that he grew up in Arkansas, where tornadoes were just a way of life.

Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones have somehow found a way to make relentless natural destruction sexy.
The leads of “Twisters,” along with costar Anthony Ramos, showed up onstage at the annual movie theater owners gathering CinemaCon to offer a first look at the sequel to the 1996 adventure film “Twister,” which starred Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton.
The chemistry between the “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Normal People” stars was palpable. The exhibitors ate up Powell as a cocky “tornado wrangler” fond of strutting in wet t-shirts and pushing an absurdly tricked-out pickup truck. The actors were also open about their intense filming conditions, saying they shot in 120-degree heat, got hit with a jet engine, smothered with hay, had a water tank dumped on them, got pelted by ice, were covered in trash and dragged by wires.
While Powell and Edgar-Jones are proven box office draws, the ensemble cast...

Chalk this up as more information to add to Everything We Know About Twisters. The muscular star of Love Lies Bleeding has broken out with the A24 film since the roles she’s had on The Mandalorian and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but now Katy O’Brian is working out more of her acting muscles in the upcoming natural disaster film, Twisters. Since the announcement of the project, it’s been made clear that the film is not intending to be a direct sequel to the 1996 Jan De Bont blockbuster. However, the Super Bowl spot and trailer for the film do give a nod to Dorothy, the tornado measuring instrument that Jo and Bill (Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton’s characters) constructed and launched.
O’Brian, coming off her big role in Love Lies Bleeding, has spoken with Entertainment Weekly about her blossoming career, which includes Twisters. She remains mum on all the details,...

Katy O’Brian is about to be a big star — and for audiences who check out Rose Glass’ “Love Lies Bleeding,” in which the actress stars alongside Kristen Stewart in an audacious, sexy, unpredictable mash-up of body horror, crime thriller, and love story, that concept will prove to be literally true by the film’s wild end. But she’s not slipping into any Hollywood starlet habits just yet.
Case in point: O’Brian signed on to our Zoom interview a full five minutes early this week (practically unheard of!), and offered to spend our extra time “just chatting.” And O’Brian, whose pre-acting resumes includes everything from bodybuilding to a seven-year stint as a police officer in her native Indiana, is a very good conversationalist.

When something works, it’s natural to try to duplicate the success. The romantic comedy Anyone But You‘s success somewhat flew under the radar, but in a good victory for mid-budget movies, the movie made a record-breaking $200 million worldwide. Additionally, both of the film’s stars’ careers are taking with upcoming projects. Glen Powell will be appearing in this summer’s Twisters, and Sydney Sweeney will be starring in next month’s horror flick, Immaculate. However, just like Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan or Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, Powell and Sweeney know you can never have too much of a good thing.

Could “Anyone But You” co-stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney be the next Julia Roberts and George Clooney? The duo’s work on the past romantic comedy just brought in a record-breaking $200 million worldwide. Thus setting the twosome up as a bankable pair that audiences might be ready to watch fall in (and out) of love over and over.

The disaster film Twister (watch it Here) was a massive success for Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment when it was released during the summer movie season in 1996. Made on a budget of $90 million, it earned almost $500 million at the global box office and ranked as the tenth highest-grossing film of all time. Quickly cashing in with a sequel would have made a lot of sense. But while there were rumors – including a memorable one that said the sequel would involve a tornado hitting a major city – a follow-up never made it into production. Until now. Universal and Amblin are reviving the Twister IP with a film called Twisters, which is set to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024. Twenty-eight years later, will it be able to replicate or surpass the success of its predecessor? We’ll have to wait and see. But for know, we’re going to...
