In just the second episode of Project Runway ever, designer Wendy Pepper laid out her master plan like a Bond villain.
“I have been unfolding a strategy,” she told the cameras in a confessional. “I was going to get people to confide in me. I would make sure to be there if they seem to be in a weak spot, anything that I thought later in the game I could use to my advantage to get them out of my way.”...

Chris March was a costume and fashion designer with a big heart and an even bigger laugh. The “Project Runway” contestant who competed on Season 4 in 2007 and came in fourth place died on Sept. 5 from a heart attack. He had suffered from a fall in 2017 that led to a prolonged hospital stay after he was put in a medically induced coma.

While his shy and slight fellow designer Christian Siriano won their season, March became a fan favorite for his witticisms and showy ensembles. When the designers visited the ancient Egyptian section of New York’s Met, he said on camera, “Look! If it were up to us, "Project Runway" would never be "out," it would just play on a loop 24/7/365.
Sadly, Season 14 will say auf wiedersehen on Thursday, November 5th, so now seems like a good time to take stock and rank the previous 13 seasons, with the expectation that the 2015 season will probably fall somewhere in the middle of the pack once it's done. (Tim Gunn "hated" Season 14, but there have been worse.) Every season of PR is a precious, unique little rhinestone, but, like the judges, we have our favorites -- and now it's Our turn to be biased.
So here's our very subjective but still definitive worst-to-best ranking, which may only be challenged by a glare from Nina Garcia, an eye roll from Michael Kors, a "make it work" from Tim Gunn, or an "out" from Heidi Klum.

In HitFix's new feature "Waxing Episodic," we reflect on an episode of television we'll never forget. I don't know a single person who believes "Project Runway" is at its best now, but the decade-old reality competition is still chugging along, and that's a remarkable feat for a show that peaked in terms of sheer entertainment value at the end of its first season. Yes, season one. Say what you will about the subsequent cycles, which have included some of the most hilarious contestants (Santino Rice, Laura Bennett, the loopy, lovable puppetrix Elisa Jimenez) and undeniable talents (Christian Siriano, Mondo Guerra, Leanne Marshall) in reality history, but "Project Runway" has almost always required trumped-up workroom drama to keep us coming back. Season three succeeded with the Jeffrey Sebelia cheating allegations and season eight offered up an irritating, intriguing teacher's pet in the form of winner Gretchen Jones, but the duller seasons...

Your opinion about how good the current season of "Big Brother" is hinges on one question: Are you entertained or bored to tears by Derrick's flawless gaming? Because it is flawless, everyone. It is righteous, it is true, and it is proceeding without any conflict. As spotlit on Wednesday's episode, Derrick's game is going so according to plan that it's almost unnerving. Surely he'll be forced to get tyrannical in the coming weeks (or even tomorrow, considering it's a Double Eviction he'll have to steer), but his slyness and sureness is only becoming bolder. He's so great at this game that he can even convince lesser houseguests, time and again, that he's somehow a worse player than they are. Did you watch Derrick seamlessly goad Caleb, through flattery and wholly untrue prattle about Caleb's strengths in the game, into a Final Two deal? Because I did, and it was both shocking (You go,...

Twenty-seven seasons into Survivor, it’s hard to believe any contestant can get away with being the “manipulative” one. At this point it’s an embarrassing, outdated word for gameplay on reality TV, the kind of whodunnit connivery you associate with Richard Hatch or Project Runway‘s Wendy Pepper – self-fancied Iagos ginning up the green-eyed monster in otherwise rational competitors. Which is why it’s insane that any Survivor veteran in 2013 — let alone the veterans who’ve been invited back to play — can be so naive as to allow a blatant manipulator like Vytas plow through their preordained plan of attack with almost no pushback. Vytas is not just manipulative. He is hauntingly stalwart in his plan to undermine his female teammates with “vulnerability.” “We’re eliminating you!” his teammates tell him. He blinks once and responds, “Oh. Right. You are. Thank you for telling me. Thank you. But… you won’t.

Since this was a Survivor episode about important things like God's plan and Lisa's hot brother, allow me to begin with an important confession: I rooted against Malcolm last night. Now stop crying! Listen up! I'm no turncoat and I still want to bathe in his gnarled locks, but it's hard not to sympathize with underlings Lisa and Skupin, who are still semi-oblivious to how sealed their fates are. We're all having such a good time with this delicious Survivor season that we're forgetting how Malcolm and Denise remain this game's unholy, yet even-keel sorcerers. Yes, Denise was almost eliminated last week, but thanks to the control that she and Malcolm exert over Lisa, she's still dominating this island with the sheer force of her 31-pound frame. If Lisa and Skupin have any sense, they'll recruit Abi to vote off Malcolm or Denise next week. But is that even possible?...

We've only just said goodbye to the contestants of Project Runway's tenth season, and it's already time for a second go 'round for our All Stars! This season is a bit of a mixed bag - there's Joshua McKinley (the runner-up of the ninth cycle), Emilio Sansa, Althea Harper, Anthony Ryan Auld, Suede Baum, Laura Kathleen Planck, Ivy Higa, Peach Carr, Casanova, Uli Herzner, Kayne Gillaspie and Andrae Ganzalo. I only remember a handful of these people, but oh well. The group meets up at Parson's for the first time, where they continually call one another "amazing" in various forms. But wait - there's another contestant, and it's the hilariously amazing (pardon the expression) Wendy Pepper from season one! She's been known as a total bitch (not my words, I swear) and she's vowed not to change this time around, either - after all, (more)...

After the underwhelming Season Ten of Project Runway, I'm not sure it was a good idea for Lifetime to plunge immediately into a new cycle, as its easy to experience burnout (and this is the second All Stars series this year).
But luckily, this batch of designers is road tested for drama, skill and just a drop of crazy, so maybe they can deliver some excitement ...or at least, tears and slapfights.
The designers meet up, get acquainted (or re-acquainted), new host Carolyn Murphy informs them that the winner will receive the biggest prize in Runway history, with cash and fashion crap totaling $350,000 dollars, and then they are immediately thrust into the the thick of things (this series is only an hour an episode, which adds to the frenzy and eliminates the dull spots, thankfully).
Mentor Joanna Coles has them choose teams, and each team is assigned to create a mini collection with "attitude.

A second season of "Project Runway: All Stars" kicked off and brought with it a new host/judge in Carolyn Murphy. She was joined by returning judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman to help a new batch of thirteen contestants seen previously on the original "Project Runway." None of them have won before.
Perhaps the most infamous returning face belongs to Wendy Pepper, who came in third during the first season. She was the first villain of the series, and it was evident that her fame preceded her. When it came time for the team captains of this first challenge to assemble their teams via schoolyard pick, Wendy was the last one chosen.
Nevertheless, after their first day of work, the team seemed ready to embrace her, offering a toast to her. "From one bitch to another, Wendy Pepper!" said Joshua McKinley.
"I was totally taken aback," Wendy admitted in a confessional.

It's another all-star season, and we get a new host in Carolyn Murphy (let's face it, Angela Lindvall was no Heidi Klum), a lot of prizes and a bunch of designers who, if this episode is any indication, are oddly well-behaved. But I'm sure that won't last long. I mean, Wendy Pepper, Josh McKinley and Ivy Higa are in da house. Blood will be drawn! Of course, everything starts out with great civility. The all stars are introduced to one another and there's much hugging. Everyone is very, very excited about Wendy Pepper, the "Disney villainess" from season one. There's...

We can quibble about the name Project Runway: All-Stars, since I don't see prized contestants like Nick Verreos or Jillian Lewis in this lineup, but the second installment of Lifetime's alumni competition is probably going to be entertaining all the same. Truly. There are enough wild cards at play here -- each equipped with a wildly different skill type and level -- to make the season worth a run. The only problem? We need to rank which of these all-stars is destined for success. So here, just two days shy of Thursday's premiere, my predictions for the rankings of Project Runway All-Stars' new season. Spoiler: Pretty sure I made it work, guys.

His stay on season five was short-lived (only two episodes), but the unassumingly chic Wesley Nault left a favorable impression using two key items: 1) his underrated tablecloth/cups ensemble from the season-opening Gristedes challenge, and 2) his passion for wearing little shorts. Look at them. They are the littlest. And he is leggier than Juliet Prowse, thank God. After the show, he enjoyed a personal and professional partnership with fellow season five vet Daniel Feld.

First, The CW announces an all-star version of America’s Next Top Model. And now, Lifetime tells us that we’ll see some of our favorite reality stars back on an all-star edition of Project Runway?! Is 2011 just a year-long Christmas?! Because this is quite a gift to us pop-culture junkies: In addition to a ninth season of the Emmy-nominated fashion competition, the network will air Project Runway All Stars, eight one-hour episodes featuring previous contestants. This makes it slightly different than the two-hour Project Runway: All-Stars Challenge, which saw the return of players Jeffrey Sebelia, Santino Rice, Daniel Vosovic,...

Here we are at last: the final challenge of the season before the top 3 are chosen to go to Fashion Week. It's fitting that it features what's possibly the craziest, most ridiculous judging in a season full of crazy, ridiculous decisions. It left a bad taste in my mouth. But let's get on with it.
Previously, a truly terrible challenge caused a lot of drama. Ivy, The Bitch Queen of the Universe, returned and stirred some shit for no reason, then disappeared, and hopefully will never be heard from again. Andy won for making the least boring clothes in a show that was amongst the worst we've ever seen, and Christopher was finally sent home.
We open seconds after Christopher's exit after his elimination. Tim tells them there's a surprise waiting, and to go out and meet Heidi at the runway. She tells them they're getting the night off to "relax,...

(S08E03) My favorite episodes of 'Project Runway' are the ones with unconventional, strange materials, and this week delivered. We did get a taste of party supplies back in season 1, when Wendy Pepper made that horrible balloon "dress" (I use that term lightly). To my surprise, most of the contestants strayed away from multiple colors and stuck with black, white and gray. Where's the innovation in that? Some of the dresses looked like rejected Lady GaGa outfits.
This episode became "bitch about Gretchen" day. I love how the only contestants who were mildly supportive of Gretchen were the ones who had to room with her. As she would talk big game, each contestant would bitch about how either Gretchen was getting a big head or how she was undeserving in their confessional.

We have a winner, folks. And it's not L'Oréal Paris, Garnier Fructis, or the Westin New York Times Square, even though all those shameless bits of product-placement enjoyed enough movie star close-ups last night to qualify for a SAG card. Nope, the winner of Project Runway season 7 was... Seth Aaron Henderson, he who kinda sorta flashed the beginning of a butt crack. He who made snow angels on the runway. And he and whose kids look comically demure when standing next to their faux-hawked pops. (How do you enact your teenage rebellion when your dad looks like he stepped out...

As we approach Fall Sweeps, the fall season is full ramped up and ready to go, with a slew of renewals and suspensions, new ratings giants, old favorites continuing to fade out, and the World Series finally ending so we can go back to our regularly scheduled programming.
In ratings news, the headline for Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday was "World Series dominates ratings." The World Series hit a 5 year high this year with viewers, ranging from 16 to 22 million viewers a game. In Tuesday ratings news, V, which faced a large number of hurdles in getting on the air, debuted to huge numbers. While not able to beat TV ratings goliath NCIS (19.4 million viewers), the ABC science fiction had a healthy 13.9 viewers and won the ever important 18-49 age range for viewers.
Sadly enough for me, a repeat of Bones on Friday night at 9pm brought in 4 million viewers, far more...
