Rhonda McCullough, the widow of the late comedian Bernie Mac, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Chicago against her husband’s dermatologist, Dr Rene M. Earles, claiming that Earles failed to recognize signs of her husband’s respiratory failure when he visited him on July 17, 2008 and delayed emergency care for him.
When Mac left his doctor’s office and arrived at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, his condition was so bad that he was unable to recover and died a few weeks later due to complications from pneumonia.
Dr. Earles has denied the charges, but yesterday, McCullough’s attorney, Larry Rogers Jr., said that several medical experts back up the allegations.

Bernie Mac didn't have to die. That's the contention of the comedian's widow, Rhonda McCullough, who has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Chicago against one of his doctors. Mac, who for years suffered from sarcoidosis, a chronic autoimmune disease, died on Aug. 9, 2008, at age 50, of heart failure during a bout of pneumonia. McCullough says in her suit that Dr. Rene M. Earles, a dermatologist who regularly treated Mac for the skin lesions caused by his sarcoidosis, was negligent by failing to recognize signs of medical distress or get emergency attention when Mac came to his Chicago office on July 17, 2008, three weeks before his death.

Bernie Mac's widow is suing the late comedian's longtime doctor, accusing the medic of failing to recognise the seriousness of his symptoms in the weeks leading up to his death from heart failure in 2008.
The Ocean's Eleven star passed away in August 2008, following a prolonged battle with pneumonia.
His grieving widow, Rhonda McCullough, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against dermatologist Rene M. Earles last week (ends30Jul10), alleging he overlooked signs of respiratory failure when Mac visited him at his Chicago, Illinois clinic on 17 July, 2008.

Legal papers filed in Chicago's Cook County Circuit Court state, "(Earles) failed to recognise and act upon abnormal vital signs and signs of respiratory failure."
But Earles has defended his actions, claiming he advised Mac, who appeared weak when he turned up with a fever and a rash, to go straight to hospital after learning from his other doctor that he had been diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
It was then that the 50 year old was taken to an emergency room by his chauffeur and treated by hospital doctors, reports the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper.
Earles adds, "He didn't die the next day, he didn't die in two days. He died in two weeks and he got over his original strain of pneumonia. He got another strain of pneumonia while he was in the hospital."...

Latest: Comedian Bernie Mac has died after losing his battle with pneumonia.
The 50-year-old Ocean's Eleven star passed away on Saturday morning at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, a week after being admitted to the medical centre.
News of the actor's illness emerged at the start of the month
, but his publicist Danica Smith released a number of statements earlier this week (begs04Aug08) playing down reports of Mac's deteriorating health.
At one point, Smith had to dismiss claims Mac had died, and on
Thursday she said the actor was "in a stable condition" and was "responding well to treatment".
She even predicted he would be released from hospital within weeks.
But the star - who had also been suffering from sarcoidosis, a tissue inflammation disease, since 1983 - died on Saturday after experiencing complications from pneumonia, reports TMZ.com.
In a statement issued hours after his passing, his representative said, "Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family's privacy continues to be respected."
Born Bernard Jeffery McCullough in Chicago in 1957, the actor began his showbiz career as a stand-up comedian in the local Cotton Pickin' Club.
He quickly established himself as a promising wise-cracking star, and he was crowned the winner of the Miller Lite Comedy Search at the age of 32.
But Mac's big career break came when he performed on the famous Def
Comedy Jam show on U.S. cable network HBO.
The stint led to Mac landing small acting roles in movies such as Ice Cube's 1995 street classic Friday and 1997's Booty Call, before scoring more high-profile parts in the George Clooney remake of Ocean's Eleven, and its sequels Oceans Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen. His other movie appearances include Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and Bad Santa in 2003, Guess Who? in 2005 and last year's Transformers.
Despite his Hollywood career, he remained an important figure on the stand-up circuit, and toured the U.S. as part of The Kings of Comedy show with Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and D.L. Hughley.
He was also a popular figure on the small screen, and in 2001, scored his own sitcom, The Bernie Mac Show, which earned him Emmy Award nominations in 2002 and 2003 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The show ran until 2006.
Mac is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Rhonda McCullough and their grown-up daughter Je'Niece.
