Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
It is of some significance that in this enchanting heartwarmer, the song, which the mother and son in this dance in the splendor of their chawl existence, is an Aamir Khan number.
Aamir was after all the star of Mehra’s Rang De Basanti. Mere Pyare Prem Minister has an even bigger star. Little Om Kanojia is a treasured find, a joy to behold. When son Kannu is sulking, Mom Sargam puts on Aati kya khandala from Aamir’s Ghulam on the phone and mom Anjali Patil dances leaving every care behind
Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s study of slumming salvation is steeped in sincerity and warmth. I felt I was watching a braver more rounded ripped and gentle version Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay. This is the film Mira could have made while...

There’s a good reason why epic love stories are almost always set in ancient times. Something about how we can only conjure these bygone eras in our imaginations allows us to fully buy into the grandeur, magnitude and theatrics that usually characterize these sagas. It’s rare to successfully make that level of passion and scale hold up in a modern day framework. While director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and writer Gulzar are particularly good bets for storytellers who can try — the former blurred the lines between past and present in his BAFTA-nominated “Rang De Basanti,” while the latter has been penning screenplays and song lyrics since 1960 — even the duo can’t quite make it work with “Mirzya.” The film’s contemporary setting does little to enhance the age-old tale at Mirzya’s core or make it approachable for current audiences.

From the heartbreaking but brilliant Rang De Basanti, to the wonderful Delhi 6, to the inspiring Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has brought Indian cinema some of its greatest films.
With his film Mirzya, he has now turned his focus on the Punjabi folk tale Mirza-Sahiban, but presenting it in a unique way. Interweaving the legendary folklore with a contemporary version, this musical brings out the story of a love that will never die. Joining him in transforming this story is the esteemed writer and poet Gulzar. Adding to the worlds of Mirzya is music by the great Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.
Mirzya introduces Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, along with Anuj Chaudhary. Also bringing the story to life are the screen masters, Om Puri, Art Malik, and K. K. Raina.
Some of my absolute favorite interviews to conduct are with directors because they just love talking about their movies.

The next song from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s poignant tragic love story is out, Teen Gawah Hain Ishq Ke, a moving love song talking about the complete isolation of true love between two soul mates who dared to love.
The film is based on the legend of Mirza-Sahiban, a popular Punjabi folklore. And in recreating this legend, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya has been exquisitely shot in the bleak and desolate terrain of Ladakh and the vibrancy of colourful Rajasthan, which heightens the contrast between the two worlds of folklore and contemporary, yet are interwoven very intricately to bring out the story of a legend that will never die. The eternal love story resonates even today in the modern day world of Rajasthan in 2016, as seen in this song, and is a befitting testimony to two eternal and rebellious lovers.

One of the films that had us completely intrigued from the first picture and the teaser trailer is Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya and we could not wait to see more. However, it seems now we have to wait a bit longer for the film to come to full fruition.
As always, Mehra seeks perfection in his films and since he feels the film needs a bit more work in the post production phase the director has requested for a shift in the release date of Mirzya. The director does not want to rush the post-production process and feels the need for some more time to get all the nuances and worlds in the epic story just right. So Mirzya is now coming to theatres worldwide on 7th October 2016.
As Mehra says, “The released teaser is the folklore bit, the perceived images in my head the first time I heard the story.
