The new movie "Europa Report" takes an entirely different approach to the found-footage medium. Sebastian Cordero's film looks at what happens to a group of astronauts on a commercial mission to Jupiter's moon, after the fact. The film was shot on a moderate budget over a three-week stretch, and has some decent names, like Michael Nyqvist and Sharlto Copley. It also features some serious science. In order to get things right, the filmmakers approached Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and ended up working with real-life rocket scientists Kevin Hand and Steve Vance, both of whom appeared at Comic-Con to discuss their role in the new film.

“Europa Report” is already being described as one of the most realistic and believable films for space travel.
And there are some good reasons. Nasa Jpl scientists Steve Vance and Kevin Hand were consultants on this ambitious movie project about astronauts traveling to Europa, Jupiter’s moon, in the search for life.
The movie’s confined space, space travel and Europa’s surface environment were thoroughly researched with these scientists.
These two Nasa Jpl scientists took their vacation time to attend San Diego Comic-Con International 2013 to discuss the realism of “Europa” and other facts about space travel and Europa.
The movie stars Sharlto Copley, Embeth Davidtz, Christian Camargo, Michael Nyqvist and Karolina Wydra.
“Europa Report” will be in theaters on August 2nd and is already On Demand.

It's relatively rare for a science fiction movie to involve actual science, but Europa Report is one such. The panel was hosted by astronomer Dr Phil Plait, and the footage backed up the claims that this film takes science seriously. Director Sebastian Cordero, producer Ben Browning, composer Bear McCreary, Karolina Wydra, and science consultants Kevin Hand and Steve Vance made up the panel. The trailer, which is already online, shows the film starting as another space exploration before things go badly wrong when the expedition drills beneath the ice. It also suggests that at least one character goes adrift in space without a tie to his ship, making a match this year with Gravity. People, if you're in space, please remember to tie your safety laces."We had an idea that it would be cool to do a movie about first contact that didn't cheat anything. Initially we didn't know...

Comic Con hasn’t been strictly superheroes in a long, long time. We have scoured the schedule for this year’s event and have pulled out the dark, the bloody, the monstrous, and the ghostly panels that look to be right up FEARnet readers’s alley.
Paranormal Passion Panel
Authors discuss the inclusion of romantic elements in their action-packed novels. Protagonists must battle the forces of evil while trying to keep the world (and often their lovers) safe from destruction. Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

Wow, what a lineup, and this is just Thursday and Friday. Just as in prior years, Comic-Con 2013 has been releasing its official schedule on a daily basis, two weeks prior to each of the epic days, meaning that we now know what we’ll be seeing (and you’ll be reading about here on SciFiMafia.com) in the largest venue, Hall H.
This year, Thursday’s panels will include Europa Report, Ender’s Game – yes, Harrison Ford will be on the panel – and Divergent. Friday will showcase the returns of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, along with a panel for The World’s End (Simon Pegg!), Kick Ass 2 and Riddick (Vin Diesel! Katee Sackoff!), and a Sony and Screen Gems panel that will showcase Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, the Robocop remake, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

With Sdcc 2013 kicking off soon, Preview Night details and the full schedule for Day 1 have arrived. We have some tough decisions to make as The Walking Dead comics take on "The X-Files" reunion and then the "Dexter," "Hannibal," and "Teen Wolf" panels go head-to-head.
Per usual, the abovementioned choices are just the tip of the iceberg for genre fans with panels running all day and evening on July 18th for paranormal novels, sexy steampunkers, horror gaming, horror novels, horror comics, horror journalists (including our own Heather Wixson!), composers, the ever present and popular zombies, The Goon feature film, and - in the last panel of the night - horror sitcom "Holliston." Check out our picks below, and be sure to visit the official San Diego Comic-Con 2013 website for the full lineup.

We're so close to San Diego Comic-Con 2013 I can taste it! What does it taste like you ask? Ghirardelli ice cream, of course! There's a Ghirardelli ice cream shop in downtown San Diego that the GeekTyrant crew eats at every night after a long day of awesomeness and work.
