Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators just launched their 2024 world tour, and treated fans to a performance of “Don’t Damn Me,” a Guns N’ Roses song that Gn’R themselves have never played live.
At the tour kickoff on Tuesday (January 23rd) in Mexico City, Slash and company broke out the deep Use Your Illusion I cut with Conspirators bassist Todd Kerns handling lead vocals, as Kennedy took a breather.
Before he rejoined Guns N’ Roses in 2016, Slash was asked in a 2014 interview if he and The Conspirators would ever perform “Don’t Damn Me.” He told the SlashFrance YouTube channel (as transcribed by Ultimate Classic Rock), “There’s just too many words. You know, it’s a cool song and everything. I think even [with] Axl [Rose], we never did it because it was just too many words without a breath, and it just makes it really impossible to do it live.

Guns N’ Roses performed at the Hollywood Bowl on Thursday night (November 2nd) in Los Angeles, and they offered up a special treat for the crowd. The legendary rock band gave the new song “The General” its live debut.
The band launched into “The General” 10 songs into the set, right in between the recent tunes “Perhaps” and “Absurd.” Before performing the track, singer Axl Rose said, “We’re gonna try a new song” and that the experience “could be very interesting.”
“The General” is the B-side to the recent physical release of “Perhaps,” which arrived earlier this year. The song marks the fourth new track Guns N’ Roses have released since the 2016 return of classic members Slash and Duff McKagan. All of the songs were reworked from earlier demos, mostly from the Chinese Democracy sessions.

Pantera were set to be one of the big draws for Aftershock festival this year, but fans will have to wait another year to see the legendary metal act perform at the four-day rock extravaganza in Sacramento, California. The band has dropped off the 2023 lineup, but has promised to play the 2024 edition of the fest.
In a statement on social media, Pantera cited “circumstances beyond our control” without offering any more details on the reason for the decision. However, they did give some good news in that they’ll still perform at promoter Danny Wimmer Presents’ Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, this weekend.

Deftones‘ latest studio album, Ohms, dropped in 2020, but it appears the guys are well into the writing phase for their next LP. Speaking on the Gnostic Academy podcast, guitarist Stephen Carpenter said the band is working with producer Nick Raskulinecz on a new album, and they’re eyeing a 2024 release.
“Just in the last couple of months, really — two or three months; well, maybe a little longer now, really; February is when we started … to work on new material for a new record,” Carpenter told Gnostic Academy (as transcribed by Blabbermouth.net). “It’s going good now. It was a little slow at first, but it always is; dragging our feet ain’t nothing new. But we’ve got stuff up and going now, and we’re on a good little momentum at the moment. California rockers Kyng are back with the song “Haunting Visions,” their first new electric music in seven years. The new tune comes as the band continues work on its upcoming fourth studio album.
“Haunting Visions” features a mix of stoner metal and heavy rock. In describing the song, Kyng said in a collective statement, “‘Haunting Visions’ is a story about a Vietnam veteran whose entire humanity was, for lack of a better word, transformed into an unrecognizable being. We jokingly claim that it’s ‘based on true events (sort of)’ because, although the mental transformation in fact happened, it’s not a visual, literal transformation as portrayed in the video.”
The band added, “Musically, it represents where Kyng came from and where we’re going. The idea is to eliminate stigmas and preconceptions by tapping into influences that might seem unlikely to the average listener.”

He continued, “The milk that she gives is the honey/mead that the warriors in Valhalla drink each night. The lyrics themselves are both about Vikings travelling the world but also metaphorically what it is to be a touring musician.”

A major tribute to late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister took place this week at the Wacken Open Air music festival in Germany. Campbell and Dee first participated in a parade featuring floats carrying hundreds of diehard Motörhead fans. The parade began at the festival site and went through the village of Wacken to Lemmy’s Bar. Original Slipknot vocalist Anders Colsefni is performing the masked metal band’s early album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. from front to back on an upcoming tour. So, what does longtime Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor think? He’s very cool with it.
Colsefni fronted Slipknot from 1995 to 1997, but was replaced by Taylor before they signed to Roadrunner Records. Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. was independently released as the band’s first album on Halloween 1996, but Slipknot would later refer to it as a demo. Even in this early release, it was easy to tell that Slipknot were crafting something very different and brutal that had the ability to catch on.
Earlier this week, Colsefni announced that he’s plotting a 12-date tour of Australia and New Zealand, where he plans to perform the record in full. According to Setlist.fm, Slipknot hasn’t played a song off the release since 1998. Even Taylor...

After a few tumultuous years that saw them have a falling out and then reconciling, sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson of Heart are working on new music together.
Seven years after Heart released their last album (2016’s Beautiful Broken), Nancy revealed that the wheels are turning on new music in a conversation with Joe Rock of New York radio station 102.3 Wbab. In the interview, she also talked about some of her other musical projects, including one called “Tomboy,” which sees her covering songs originally written by men.
“I think right now I’ve been working on ‘Tomboy’ the most because I love the title, for one thing; it’s almost like boygenius or something,” she explained (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “But I’ve got a bunch of new ideas for songs. But I’ve also been writing new music with Ann, too. So it’s a real creative time. I...

Greta Van Fleet have shared the new song “Farewell for Now.” The track appears on the Michigan rock band’s upcoming third studio album, Starcatcher, out July 21 via Lava/Republic Records.
“On ‘Farewell for Now,’ we express the sentiment of our longing to stay on stage and savor the magic created by the audience-music phenomena,” bassist Sam Kiszka said in a statement. “But we must pack up and go to the next place to do it all over again; as always, we’ll be back soon.”
“Farewell for Now” shows Greta Van Fleet’s softer side in a very retro-sounding ballad. The song follows the releases of previous Starcatcher singles “Meeting the Master” and “Sacred the Thread.”
In other news, Greta Van Fleet have announced a limited-edition translucent black glitter vinyl variant for Starcatcher, available via the band’s webstore. They also launched a red glitter vinyl, available exclusively at Target,...

The Adderall EP features alternate versions and reworkings of the band’s song “Adderall,” as well as the non-lp tracks “Death March,” “Red or Redder” and “Hard to Be Here.” The original version of “Adderall” is the leadoff track on Slipknot’s most recent album, 2022’s The End, So Far.
“Deconstructing to continuously pave the way for evolution,” Clown said of the new EP and videos in a statement. “At this point in the program, nothing is safe.”
Earlier this year, Slipknot released the surprise standalone single “Bone Church,” featuring another Clown-directed video. The “Bone Church” video has surpassed more than one million views to date.

Tyler Rogers, bass player of Oklahoma emo-punk act Cliffdiver, was nearly killed after he was struck by a flying metal chain that likely broke off a semi truck while driving to a gig associated with this weekend’s Punk Rock Bowling festival in Las Vegas.
According to a post on the band’s Facebook page from guitarist-singer Matt Ehler, Rogers lost consciousness, and drummer Eliot Cooper had to act fast, moving the bassist out of the driver’s seat. Cooper was able to halt the van to safety, but Rogers was seriously hurt. The paramedics came and Rogers was taken to a nearby hospital.
As for injuries, Ehler wrote, “[Rogers’] carotid artery had been punctured, his jugular was lacerated, he had fractures in his neck, had lost approximately 2 liters of blood and needed emergency surgery.” Thankfully, Rogers survived and is recovering. The band has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for medical bills and expenses,...

The new lord mayor of Portsmouth in the UK took an unconventional approach to his inauguration ceremony, using the Metallica song “Eye of the Beholder” as his walk-in music.
It was certainly a scene at the Portsmouth Guildhall on Tuesday (May 16th) when Lord Mayor Tom Coles walked to the podium with the …And Justice for All track blaring. The contrast of the ceremony’s pomp and circumstance with the rather brutal thrash number is sketch-comedy levels of absurd.
Coles’ eccentricities didn’t stop there. During his speech, the new lord mayor recited a passage in the Star Trek language Klingon, garnering smiles from his colleagues. As for his motivations for the playing the metal song and speaking Klingon, Coles simply told the BBC that he went “with what he liked”.
“It went down well with the audience, I had a really good feedback,” he said, adding that he was “a big heavy metal fan.

Avenged Sevenfold have unleashed a new single, “We Love You,” along with a 360-degree virtual reality video. The song is the second track released off the band’s upcoming album, Life Is But a Dream, which arrives June 2nd.
This time around, the band gets highly experimental, as “We Love You” features different styles and sounds, jumping around from prog-rock to hardcore to industrial before ending with an extended acoustic outro. Thematically, a press release describes the song as “an ode to decrying the rat race.”
As for the music video, artist Ryan McKinnon used Unreal Engine to create the innovative visual experience, which has been optimized for Oculus in VR and 360 on YouTube. The visualizer shows beautiful nature scenes, but then, “the pressure of society takes over and the world starts building at a crazy pace.”
“We Love You” follows the album’s first single “Nobody.”, which was released in March.

A California judge has tossed out most of Marilyn Manson’s defamation lawsuit against Evan Rachel Wood following the actress’ claims of abuse during the one-time couple’s relationship from 2007 to 2010.
“The Court grants Wood’s special motion to strike in part,” rule Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa A. Beaudet in the tentative order [via Deadline], which invoked California’s anti-slapp law and its protections on individual free speech.
Manson’s defamation suit from March 2022 alleged that Wood penned a fake FBI letter and a checklist for other alleged Manson abuse victims — both of which have been tossed out with the latest motion. It’s another loss for the Manson camp, which was previously not allowed to add Ashley Morgan Smithline’s about-face recantation as a new declaration to the lawsuit.

“It was really a special time writing and working on this record,” Weaver said. “There were a lot of hardships we had prior to the pandemic and during, as everyone experienced. Metallica have dropped the new song “72 Seasons” — the title track of their forthcoming album, arriving April 14th.
The band teased a significant portion of the song’s music video on social media before releasing the full track and music video today (March 30th). The performance clip sees the band illuminated by red lasers, giving off the effect of Metallica barreling through space.
It’s fitting visuals for what is the fastest and grooviest of the four singles we’ve heard from 72 Seasons, following “Lux Æterna,” “Screaming Suicide,” and “If Darkness Had a Son.” James Hetfield may have recently said that he and his fellow bandmates were “average” players, but this new track proves otherwise.
Lars Ulrich is locked into the pocket of the quick tempo, and the riff structures and palm-muted chugs hit with undeniable power. Hetfield’s more pronounced drawl also works nicely around the arrangement and vocal melody,...

Linkin Park’s sophomore album, Meteora, celebrates its 20th anniversary on Saturday (March 25). In honor of the milestone, the band is gearing up to release a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue of the multiplatinum effort. Now, Linkin Park have debuted a second previously unreleased song from those sessions, “Fighting Myself.”
“Fighting Myself” follows “Lost,” which the band released in February. While “Lost” highlights the late Chester Bennington’s melodic vocals, “Fighting Myself” sees Mike Shinoda rapping the verses and Bennington coming in on the chorus to plead, “Fighting myself, I always lose.”
“Lost” recently went to No. 1 on the rock and alternative radio charts. Time will tell if “Fighting Myself” sees the same trajectory.
