London, July 28 (Ians) Irish actor Jack Gleeson, who plays the cruel and sadistic King Joffrey Baratheon in ‘Game of Thrones’, is set to feature in the TV adaptation of Enid Blyton’s ‘The Famous Five’ novels, and by the first look of his character, it appears to be another villainous one.
Gleeson has transformed into Wentworth for a first-look at the BBC’s reboot of ‘The Famous Five’ and looks very different from his role as Joffrey Baratheon.
His fair golden hair, which was synonymous with the Lannisters in ‘Game of Thrones’ is gone and instead, Gleeson cuts a rather villainous figure, as per Express UK.
The actor sports short dark locks and a thin moustache as he shoots a terrifying look at the camera.
His character Wentworth is dressed in a blue pinstripe suit with white shirt and striped scarf, which is fastened in a bow.

Bet you weren’t expecting the eyebrow-raising TV news of the day to involve a new adaptation of beloved children’s author Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series. But the surprising twist in the BBC’s announcement today didn’t concern the bestselling series of whimsical, jolly-hockey-sticks children’s adventure novels from the 1940s-1960s – rather the creator behind this new series: Nicolas Winding Refn.
Considering this Danish director is famous for stylish but graphically violent films like The Neon Demon, Only God Forgives and Drive, The Famous Five will be somewhat of a left turn for him.
The series will have three 90-minute episodes drawing on Blyton’s 21 Famous Five novels, which detailed the adventures of five daring young explorers – Julian, Dick, Anne, George and their dog Timmy – as they spend their school holidays gallivanting around the English countryside and coastline, solving mysteries, finding treasure and catching criminals. Refn will act as creator and producer on a new The Famous Five limited series adaptation, which has begun filming across the southwest of the U.K. The Danish director is executive producing through his byNWR Originals company together with BBC Studios-backed Moonage Pictures (Amazon Prime’s The Pursuit of Love) for the BBC and German public broadcaster Zdf. ‘Last Looks’ Review: It’s Weird Beard Time for Charlie Hunnam and Mel Gibson in Shaggy L.A. Whodunit
It takes some nerve casting a scandal-embattled star like Mel Gibson as a colorful TV celebrity suspected of killing his wife. Those who’ve stood by Gibson despite multiple attempts by the actor to sabotage his own career will likely admire the chutzpah of “Last Looks,” even if his flamboyantly named (and mustachioed) Alastair Pinch — a borderline-blotto, Colonel Sanders-looking Southern judge on a show called “Johnnie’s Bench” — is just a side character (the main suspect) in an overcrowded Hollywood detective story that’s got gimmicks to burn.
The ringmaster of this three-ring circus is one Charlie Waldo, a disgraced former LAPD golden boy with even wilder facial hair than Pinch. It’s like a pandemic beard, minus the pandemic.
A few years earlier, Waldo went off the grid after realizing he couldn’t undo the wrongful conviction that launched his career. Where’s Waldo now? Living in self-imposed exile — or “extraction,...

Mike Myers Netflix Series ‘Pentaverate’ Adds Six to Cast, Including Ken Jeong and Keegan-Michael Key
Mike Myers’ new Netflix comedy series has officially been titled “The Pentaverate,” with the show adding six new cast members.
Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, and Lydia West will all appear alongside Myers in the series, with Myers set to play seven new characters himself. Production is currently underway on the six-episode show.
In the half-hour series, five men have been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347. As the show begins, one unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and just possibly save the world himself.
Fans of Myers will recall that he referenced The Pentaverate in the 1993 film “So I Married an Axe Murderer,” in which he played both the film’s lead, Charlie Mackenzie, as well as his outspoken Scottish father, Stuart. In the film, Stuart claims The Pentaverate is comprised of “The Queen,...

Mike Myers’ limited series on Netflix just (read: finally) unveiled a whole bunch of details, including a title, plot and cast.
Production has started on the six-episode, half-hour comedy, now titled “The Pentaverate.” Myers will play seven brand new characters on the limited series, Netflix announced Tuesday.
“The Pentaverate” asks: What if a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347?
At the beginning of the streaming series, one unlikely Canadian journalist (we’re going to go out on a limb here and guess that’s one of Myers’ seven characters — he’s certainly Canadian) finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and possibly save the world himself.
A final reminder for that character, straight from Netflix’s logline: Remember, the Pentaverate must never be exposed!

Johnson (Nighthawks). Mike Langer and Tyler W. Konney wrote the screenplay, which is set in the murky world of CIA renditions.
The plot follows Harris (Mulroney), a CIA officer involved in missions to detain and relocate foreign nationals for interrogation. When a political shift in Washington turns his allies into enemies, Harris finds himself the scapegoat for a detainee’s murder and must run from a team of operatives sent to bring him in (McNamara and Coiro), led by a ruthless double agent (Ilonzeh). Gibson has a small role as an intelligence official running the unsanctioned covert operation to hunt down the disgraced spy.
Tyler W. Konney is producing the pic via the Taylor & Dodge banner, which is also handling worldwide sales.

When it comes to TV series chemistry, the old jazzman might say, “You either got it or you ain’t.”
The stars of IFC’s “Brockmire,” Hank Azaria and Amanda Peet, most definitely got it. Their sizzling, sexy comic chemistry was a key factor in transforming an initial cult hit into a hilarious, time-jumping must-watch in its just-aired fourth and final season.
Their bond is very much in evidence in a warm “Series Rewind” video get-together hosted by award-winning entertainment expert Dave Karger. Throughout the reunion, their genuine affection and shared wry humor are plain to see.
Karger inquires into the source of their appeal, and after cracking wise (“We’ve been asked this so much that I’ve now thought about it a lot”), Azaria attempts an earnest reply: “I think we basically approach comedy the same way. I really do. We don’t try to be funny per se,...

Syfy is putting a serial killer spin on teen movie tropes, with television pilot (Future) Cult Classic.
(Future) Cult Classic might be calling its own shot like Babe Ruth with its very title. However, the dark teen comedy pilot does bring some intriguing concepts to the table over at Syfy in an increasingly crowded small screen playing field.
Syfy ordered the pilot back in January along with cyberthriller Cipher. The series –an original concept, not adapted from a novel or comic book – is the brainchild of Shay Hatten, an up-and-coming talent whose first feature, crime thriller movie Ballerina, is still developing. The story is satirical in nature, set to manifest as a levity-laced genre pastiche of old-school slasher films and teen drama tropes, centered on Bree (Emily Alyn Lind), a ‘90s castaway living in a technology-teeming future.

Written by Hatten, (Future) Cult Classic combines the genres of slasher films, high school drama and speculative satire. It is set 18 years in the future and centers on a group of teens whose community is rocked by a 1990s slasher-movie obsessed serial killer. Our heroes quickly realize they’re being targeted and decide to take matters into their own hands and track down the killer—before time runs out.

Syfy’s stable of scripted television will see the addition of two pilot, drama Cipher and comedy (Future) Cult Classic.
If, for some reason, you needed more evidence that Syfy will continue its commitment to quality scripted television, then you may find interest in its latest developing projects, notably an order for two original scripted series, one an AI drama, tentatively titled Cipher, and a dark comedy, called (Future) Cult Classic.
Cipher and (Future) Cult Classic are amongst a spate of newly announced Syfy television projects, which include a TV series that continues the doll-possessed-by-a-psychopathic-killer continuity of the Child’s Play horror film franchise (from which it will soon be distinguished by a reboot film this June).
Cipher is the brainchild of Allison Miller, a producer who’s worked on the CBS All Access series, Strange Angel, as well as Fox’s short-lived 2016 back-from-dead series, Second Chance.

Syfy has ordered pilots for two new scripted projects: father-son AI drama Cipher (working title) from Allison Miller (Strange Angel) and Rough House Pictures (Halloween), and dark comedy (Future) Cult Classic (working title) from Shay Hatten (Ballerina) and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video. The pilots, both produced by Universal Cable Prods., are casting and will go into production later this year.
Cipher and (Future) Cult Classic are part of Syfy’s continuous brand evolution. During the past couple of years, following the blockbuster success of The Magicians, the network scaled back on unscripted fare, instead making a major investment in premium scripted content with a focus on edgy, younger-skewing shows with offbeat, quirky, off-kilter sensibility, like breakout hit Happy!, the just premiered Deadly Class, upcoming animated late-night program Alien News Desk — also from Saturday Night Live producer Broadway Video — and the Resident Alien pilot.

In a competitive situation, Syfy has acquired the series development rights to horror icon Chucky.
The potential series, centered on the red-headed doll possessed by the soul of dead serial killer Charles Lee Ray, will be written and executive produced by Don Mancini, who wrote the film franchise on which the series is based. David Kirschner and Nick Ancosta will also executive produce, with Ancosta producing via his Eat the Cat banner. Universal Content Productions (Ucp) will produce. Ancosta is currently under an overall deal at the studio.
“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” said Mancini. “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.

There is a healthy variety of new movie packages at the American Film Market, which gets under way today in Santa Monica. As we noted in our preview, there are also some strong holdovers from recent markets (such as Eve and UglyDolls) and pre-existing projects which are being reconfigured with good new cast. Below is a selection of the hottest market debuts.
The depth of projects looks solid on paper. One aspect that isn’t so impressive: the ratio of female filmmakers. Only three of the 25 or so highlight projects below have women directors. A little like in Venice, while the number of female directors remains low there are at least a decent number of new projects with strong female characters and starring roles. These include Breaking News In Yuba County, Misbehaviour, Red Sonja, The Wind, and The Glorias. This is an improvement for a market (Afm) which has been...

Mel Gibson, Charlie Hunnam and Eiza González are set to star in a new action-thriller called Waldo. No, it’s not a film adaptation of Where’s Waldo, but that would certainly be an interesting movie, especially with this cast!
Waldo center on “a disgraced former Lapd detective, played by Hunnam, living the life of a minimalist in the woods. His quiet life comes to a startling halt when he is roped back into working as a private eye to investigate the murder of an eccentric television star’s wife.”
There’s no information on who Gibson will be playing in the film. The movie will be directed by Tim Kirkby and it will start shooting early next year.
Gibson can next be seen in the film Dragged Across Concrete with Vince Vaughn. Hunnam is best known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim, and Crimson Peak. González...
