Although many of us consider ourselves movie experts, our knowledge is often limited to U.S. and British productions, completely ignoring creators from around the world. Knowing this, Martin Scorsese, in response to a young filmmaker named Colin Levy, created a list of 39 international films that you must see.
While 39 may seem like a lot, you can always start with 10 that other people considered the best. Here is the list of the top 10 Martin Scorsese recommendations, according to IMDb rating.
10. Ugetsu monogatari (1953) – 8.2/10
Country: Japan
Set in a rural area during Japan's civil war, this movie follows Genjuro and Tobei, two men driven by the need to make money for their families. Ignoring the signs and possessed by their greed, they make enough to feed everyone but bring devastation and destruction as their punishment.
9. Umberto D. (1952) – 8.2/10
Country: Italy
Umberto D. Ferrari is a retired government clerk living in Rome and struggling to make ends meet.

British Comedian Behind BBC Shows Criticized Over Alleged “Antisemitic” Death Threat To Female Comic
British comedian Dane Baptiste, a regular on TV and creator of two BBC shows, has been criticized for allegedly posting an “antisemitic” death threat about a female comic.
Prominent members of the British comedy community rounded on Baptiste after he was accused of publishing a now-deleted Instagram post in which he told an unidentified female comedian he would “sit in prison while your family sit at the cemetery.” The full post is below.
The UK’s Community Security Trust, a charity that examines incidences of anti-Jewish hate, has been notified about Baptiste’s message, which began: “A quick note to the Zionist comedian stalking my family’s page.”

The BBC has released the first trailer for the six-part thriller Boat Story, starring Daisy Haggard and Paterson Joseph.
At its core, ‘Boat Story’ is a thriller with a darkly comic heart about two ordinary people whom the world has turned its back on, and whether they’re willing – or desperate enough – to do something crazy to get what they want in life. Pushed to the very edge, can they trust each other and get away with their lives and the money?
The story embodies twists and turns with character-driven, surprising storytelling. Off-beat humour contrasts with high-octane action sequences against the spectacular backdrop of the beautiful, windswept Yorkshire coastline.
Also starring is Tchéky Karyo, Joanna Scanlan, Craig Fairbrass and Phil Daniels.
Also in trailers – “What are you not telling me?” Trailer drops for series ‘Culprits’
The series will be coming soon on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK...

Caroline Garcia showed a wonderful touch of sportsmanship during her third-round match at the 2023 Guadalajara Open against American player Hailey Baptiste.
Garcia, the third seed at the tournament , was locked in a tight battle against Baptise, who had stunned former Wta No. 1 Karolina Pliskova in the previous round. The French player won the first set 7-5 but was a break down in the early goings of the second set.
It was during the sixth game of the second stanza when Garcia declined the umpire's original call of handing her the opening point after what transpired before that. Garcia won a baseline exchange by firing a smash winner that kissed the outside of the line.
Initially, it was called out by the line umpire, but after requesting a Hawk-Eye review, Garcia's challenge was successful, and the chair umpire Cecilia Alberti rescinded the original call, judging that Garcia had won the point with a clean winner.

Crime dramas can sit on a pretty broad spectrum: some are campy, cosy and even comfortingly formulaic, whereas others make you need to sleep with the light on. The one guarantee is that in the UK at least, there’s such an appetite for detectives and crime stories that TV will never run out of new cases to solve.
We’ve already had some top examples in 2023, from the Happy Valley and Endeavour finales to the excellent Belfast-based Blue Lights, but there are plenty more fresh crime dramas on the way, from police procedurals to true crime and murder mysteries. See what’s coming up below.
After The Flood
Very much what it says on the tin, After The Flood begins… after a flood, which devastates a town, but when the waters clear they leave behind an unidentified dead man in the lift of an underground car park. PC Joanna Marshall is on the case,...
