When the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter was released last summer, the response from fans wasn't particularly positive. Some embraced the over-the-top violence, but the majority of comic book readers recoiled as soon as a mutated Rhino showed up.
The Sony Pictures movie has been delayed multiple times, with it most recently moving from the end of August to December 13, later this year.
That means it will go head-to-head with The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and, just a week later, faces stiff competition from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King. On August 30, it had no real competitors.
Despite that, longtime Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters producer Matt Tolmach tells Collider the move isn't because Sony has given up on Kraven the Hunter; they believe it stands a chance of becoming a Christmastime hit.

Kraven the Hunter is seeking new hunting grounds, with the Aaron Taylor-Johnson starrer taking a release date just vacated by The Karate Kid.
On Friday evening, Sony moved the villain-centric Kraven the Hunter to the prime winter spot of Dec. 13, 2024 (back from Aug. 30, 2024). Kraven steps into a date that was occupied by fellow Sony pic The Karate Kid, a crossover event movie starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. Karate Kid now moves to May 30, 2025.
The move comes after the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, the Netflix spinoff starring Machio as his original Karate Kid movie character Daniel Larusso, was delayed due to last year’s actors strike. Jon Favreau knew Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow’s onscreen chemistry in Iron Man was something special.
The director recently revealed to People magazine that he incorporated some of the actors’ real-life conversations into the Marvel movie. And it’s one of the reasons why the dynamic between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts felt so authentic.
“I was a very good student where I would take notes as they would talk, and whether it was improvising or even just talking about the scene, I would write stuff down that they would say,” Favreau recalled.
He particularly remembered one instance when Paltrow actually corrected Downey “because we were reading the script and it said, ‘This looks like Jackson Pollock’s spring period.’ And then she corrected us in rehearsal. She says, ‘No, it’s actually The Springs period. The Springs is the part of the Hamptons where Jackson Pollock lived and worked,...

The character of The Mandarin first appeared in the pages of Marvel Comics back in 1964, created by Don Heck and Marvel bigwig Stan Lee. In John Coates' 2014 book "Don Heck: A Work of Art," Heck admitted that the Mandarin was more Lee's idea, as he wanted an old-fashioned Fu Manchu-like villain to face off against Iron Man, one of the company's B-list characters. A lot of the cliches and stereotypes embodied by Dr. Fu-Manchu (a villain character from a 1913 pulp novel by Sax Rohmer) transferred directly into the Mandarin. The Mandarin is a supervillain from China and was initially drawn as a racist caricature.
In the original comics, the Mandarin possessed 10 magical rings, salvaged from a crashed alien spaceship. He was one of Iron Man's earliest nemeses. The character has stubbornly remained in the background of Marvel comics for decades.

Since Sony and Disney made a deal about Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in which Tom Holland debuted as the web-slinger in 2016, Sony decided to put more effort into building their own cinematic universe, officially called Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, in which Spider-Man still hasn’t appeared, but some other characters associated with him have.
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (without Spider-Man in it) kicked off with ‘Venom’ in 2018, and since then, it spawned two more movies; ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ and ‘Morbius.’ Neither of these movies was critically acclaimed, but both ‘Venom’ movies were commercially successful, which can’t be said for ‘Morbius.’
Still, even though we are now used to getting half-hits and misses from Sony, we can still expect a lot of content in the future, particularly next year when we’re set to get three new movies set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, including ‘Kraven the Hunter,...

It's been a longer than planned journey to screens for Kraven The Hunter, which sees Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing a version of the classic Spider-Man villain, but it'll finally land in October. As has previously hinted, this will be an origin story, with the character turned into more of an antihero. Check out the first trailer…
In this take on the character's story — directed by Jc Chandor from a script by Richard Wenk, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, Taylor-Johnson plays Sergei Kravinoff, a man with some serious daddy issues. Pushed by his father to be a strong hunter, he ends up instead attacked by a lion and left for dead. But something happens with mixing bloods and he becomes a powerful warrior — who swears to take down the evil his father pours into the world.

After the meme-able disaster of Morbius, Sony is back to try again with another unestablished Spider-Man villain solo movie. This time, they’re taking a decidedly R-rated approach, as seen in the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter.
The film stars a jacked Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven, the son of a megalomaniacal crime lord and hunter (Russell Crowe). On a safari to hunt lions, Sergei’s dad leaves him for dead after showing weakness in front of the great cat. In a bit of comic-inaccurate-but-hey-we-gotta-get-him-powers-somehow sci-fi, it seems Sergei’s blood gets mixed with that of a lion, granting him apex predator abilities and apparently a direct line of communication to animals.
He grows up and decides to use his vicious powers to counteract his father’s criminal enterprises; “My father puts evil into the world; I take it out,” he tells Ariana DeBose’s character, reportedly the voodoo priestess Calypso.

Another year, another CinemaCon! /Film's own Ben Pearson is attending the yearly film showcase in Las Vegas, and has the first word on some really cool exclusive trailers and footage presentations—including the upcoming Spider-Man villain spin-off "Kraven The Hunter." CinemaCon debuted some clips from the film which comes out in the fall, and needless to say, there is a lot to discuss.
The movie is set to be the fourth installment in Sony's Spider-Man cinematic universe — yes, here's another one to remember — after their other villain films "Venom," "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," and 2022's favorite meme "Morbius." It's definitely interesting to see them branching out so hard into the villain canon, and it'll be fun to see where this one goes. The new "Kraven" film is directed by J.C. Aaron Taylor-Johnson beamed in to Las Vegas’ CinemaCon on Monday to show the first footage from his anticipated Marvel film “Kraven the Hunter” — an ultraviolent spree of blood and throbbing biceps that pleased the annual convention of theater owners.
Taylor-Johnson called the J.C. Chandor-directed project “a Marvel movie grounded heavily in the real world. We know he is a fierce hunter, a highly trained killer.” He then gave an answer to what he deemed “the internet’s biggest question” — whether the film would receive an R-rating.

Tom Holland has proven a charming actor, capable of poignancy, humor, and super-heroic action. Stretching beyond his work as Spider-Man, he detoured into an adaptation of the Uncharted video game, coming off more as a cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond than an original character, which is not at all his fault. He is an appealing performer and you want to root for him to succeed.

Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg do some modern-day swashbuckling in this action adventure movie based on the popular treasure hunter video game series Uncharted. Pacily directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom), it’s an entirely watchable popcorn movie that gets the main components right but doesn’t quite achieve its full potential.
Holland plays Nate Drake, a petty thief who uses his job as a flashy cocktail-making bartender to practise his pickpocketing skills. However, his life changes when he’s recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Wahlberg) to help him find a fortune in gold that once belonged to the explorer Magellan.

“Uncharted” is an adventure and action film based on the PlayStation video game franchise of the same name from Naughty Dog, and Sony is hoping that the star power of Tom Holland coming off the mega success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” will translate into similar box office treasure.
Sony is projecting “Uncharted” to earn $30 million over the four-day President’s Day holiday weekend (as well as $27 million over the three-day) against a $120 million budget. For a comparison to another video game hit, “Sonic the Hedgehog” made $3 million in its previews and opened to $58 million in February 2020. As far as films based on video games go, Uncharted may not be scraping the bottom of the barrel, nor is it the crème de la crème. It instead proves to be a moderately entertaining adventure yarn that echoes better films that have come before, and will probably follow it.
The plot follows the exploits of hustler/thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) after he partners with Indiana Jones wannabe Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to search for a fortune in gold lost five hundred years earlier by Ferdinand Magellan. Sully had been working with Nathan’s long-lost brother, but now needs Nathan’s help if he is going to lay claim to the treasure before another treasure seeker, Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who insists his family has the only legitimate claim to the fortune.
After Nathan and Sully team up with fellow adventure Sophia Ali (Chloe Frazer) the film begins to...

Warner Bros.’ franchise title “The Batman” and Sony’s game adaptation “Uncharted” have both been given confirmed theatrical release dates in mainland China.
“The Batman” will reach conventional and Imax theaters in China on Friday March 18, 2022. “Uncharted” will release four days earlier on Monday March 14.
The confirmations mean that there is a rebounding flow of Hollywood movies into China after a drought in 2021, when revenue sharing import numbers fall short of the bilaterally agreed 34 film annual quota.
There has also been a complete absence of Marvel movies (from both the Disney and Sony stables).
Hollywood releases in China in 2022 have included “Encanto,” “The Matrix: Resurrections” and “Paw Patrol.” None have made any significant impression on a year-to-date chart which has been dominated by locally-made Chinese New Year titles.
Earlier this week, on a video posted to Warner’s social media accounts in China, “The Batman” stars Robert Pattinson and Zoe...

Stars: Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, Rudy Pankow | Written by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway | Directed by Ruben Fleischer
Aside from the lure of a treasure worth billions, Nate is also swayed by Sully’s promise to help him find his...

Oscar winner Russell Crowe has entered the Spiderverse.
The “Gladiator” star has joined the cast of “Kraven the Hunter” in an unspecified role. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is starring in the title role as one of Spider-Man’s most deadly antagonists.
J.C. Chandor, who previously oversaw “All Is Lost” and “Triple Frontier,” is directing. Crowe is best known for his immersive roles in the likes of “The Insider” and “Master and Commander,” most of them pitched toward older audiences, but he’s no stranger to the world of superheroes and spandex. He previously played Jor-El, father to Superman, in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel.” He’s also due to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
For maximum confusion, “Kraven the Hunter” is not part of the official MCU, although he appears in Marvel comics. He is one of the characters who falls under Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man licensing deal.

For those who have played the “Uncharted” video games and seen Nathan Drake go through hell and back, it’s easy to forget that in the new film based on the games, Tom Holland’s Nate is still young and learning on the fly in his first real job.
The final trailer for “Uncharted” shows Mark Wahlberg’s Victor “Sully” Sullivan recruiting Nate and explaining to him that Nate’s brother was on to something big — Magellan’s treasure worth a rumored $5 billion. And honestly, he should just be happy to be along for the ride.
“50-50? You get 10%, and that’s me being generous,” Wahlberg barks at him.
This new trailer shows some new looks at some of the film’s video game inspired set pieces, including most notably Nate leaping from shipping containers dangling from the back of a flying plane, and even how he kicks a thug...
