Center Theatre Group presented the North American premiere of Matthew Bourne’s Romeo + Juliet on Wednesday evening, and when it ended, the entire Ahmanson Theatre audience was on its feet offering a standing ovation. After the dance company had taken final bows — with Paris Fitzpatrick’s Romeo and Monique Jonas’ Juliet receiving the love while covered in (spoiler alert!) blood-drenched white ensembles — Melissa McCarthy and Adam Shankman sat back down in their orchestra seats in row F.
The good friends, who arrived together, proceeded to stay seated for another 10 minutes or so to process what they’d seen through tear-filled eyes. “I just love a comedy,” Shankman said to The Hollywood Reporter in the lobby moments later. He was kidding, of course, as the show offers a surprising, dramatic and somewhat violent twist to the classic story of star-crossed lovers.

Modern Family finally wrapped up its run on ABC in 2020, but actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s career continues to flourish. He went from an accomplished stage actor to a beloved sitcom actor, and now he’s bringing those comedy chops to film. The 47-year-old actor, long well-liked in Hollywood, is finally entering the third act of his career.
That third act was pushed forward by Ferguson’s husband. The pair have become something of a power couple, a successful producer and a talented actor elevating one another. So why did the Modern Family star spend so long lying about how they first met?

Exclusive: Broadway Rising, a feature length documentary on the reopening of Broadway, has started production, with director Amy Rice (HBO’s By the People: The Election of Barack Obama) producing along with, among others, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Tony-winning Oklahoma! producer Justin Mikita.
The documentary will follow the complex road to reopening Broadway, highlighting not just the familiar onstage faces but the entire theater community, chronicling the hundreds of restaurant owners and staff, costume houses, designers, ushers, specialty craftspeople and theater workers both in back and front of house.
Producers say the film “celebrates their resilience and determination to achieve what at many points seemed impossible. For months, everyone had to pivot to survive. But when the time came, the heroic people that make up the heartbeat of New York City united their community, turned the lights on & lifted the curtains on the stage. As the saying goes, the show must go on — and finally,...

Happy Mother's Day indeed. In mid-May, a few days after the holiday, Leonardo DiCaprio shelled out a cool $7.1 million for a more than 4,900-square-foot 1928 Spanish Colonial Los Angeles mansion that was previously owned by Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and husband Justin Mikita, according to real estate records obtained by E! News. The home was a present for the Oscar winner's mom, Irmelin Indenbirken, The New York Post reported. Ferguson and Mikita sold the mansion for $2.5 million more than what they paid for it seven years ago, just after they wed. In addition to the TV star, fellow celebs Gwen Stefani and Robert Pattinson also owned...

Jesse Tyler Ferguson has just released his first cookbook, “Food Between Friends,” with co-author Julie Tanous. The 272-page tome includes recipes for garlicky sorghum chicken stir-fry, gulf coast grouper & grits, hatch green chile mac & cheese and tiramisu tres leches.
Hungry yet?
“I have so many cookbooks. They’re aspirational,” the former “Modern Family” star says on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “But it’s also fun. I don’t know how you feel about cookbooks, but I just like pulling a few down and kind of looking through books I haven’t looked at it in a while, and finding these recipes that I might have passed over and just creating a whole new menu for the night.”

Fatherhood is everything Jesse Tyler Ferguson hoped it would be and more. Close to eight months after welcoming his first child with husband Justin Mikita, the Modern Family star is soaking up every moment with his son. And while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jesse revealed some of the books and songs he's already introduced to baby Beckett. "It's a lot of show tunes because that's what I like. We're raising him gay until he decides he's straight," Jesse joked on Tuesday, March 9. "On the way back from the hospital, we played Britney Spears because that is what Justin demanded he listen to. That was his first exposure to music. It's a lot of singing. I'm...

It was a very modern family reunion. On Saturday, Oct. 24, stars of ABC's hit sitcom Modern Family—which ended its run with the season 11 finale earlier this year—shared photos from a long overdue get together with their former cast members. Sarah Hyland, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sofia Vergara all got together for a big family dinner, and posted nearly-identical pics to their respective Instagram accounts. Also in attendance was Joe Manganiello, Sofia's husband, and Jesse's husband Justin Mikita, who seemingly snapped the photos and co-hosted with his husband. "J'adore ma famille," Sarah wrote on Instagram. In the next...

Jesse Tyler Ferguson met his husband at the gym — Equinox in West Hollywood — during the early days of “Modern Family.” “We were both in the locker room, fully clothed,” Ferguson clarifies. “I was leaving.” Justin Mikita, then a law student, had just seen the pilot for the ABC sitcom and stopped to chat with Ferguson about his groundbreaking character Mitch, a gay man in a monogamous relationship on network TV.
“I was taken by how handsome he was and how sweet,” Ferguson says. “I started asking questions about him, and I think he was sort of thrown off by that and ran away from me.”
They stayed in touch. “We started messaging on Twitter, and he was like, ‘Can I take you to dinner sometime?’” Mikita says.

When co-creators Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan decided to set the 11th and final season of “Modern Family” at 18 episodes, they didn’t realize how fortuitous the timing would turn out to be. The series finale of the long-running family sitcom finished filming in late February, mere weeks before the outbreak of the coronavirus would force the entertainment industry — along with countless other businesses — to grind to a halt.
“It’s very strange to contemplate that,” says Lloyd. “Had we done, say, our normal number of episodes, which would be 22 or 24, we would’ve come to a place where [the production would have been forced to shut down], so we would’ve aired everything but our finale and then, who knows? Like, we would’ve filmed it and aired it in mid-August or something. It’s really weird to think that we avoided that just by electing to do fewer episodes than we normally do. Had we done two or three more,...

On Monday, Taylor Swift released a video for her new song “You Need to Calm Down,” the second single from her forthcoming album, “Lover.” Taking a page from Beyoncé’s book, Swift shares a directing credit with filmmaker Drew Kirsch, as well an Ep credit with frequent “RuPaul’s Drag Race” judge and choreographer Todrick Hall. Clad exclusively in pink (millennial and other shades), Swift waltzes through a kaleidoscopic set that is colored in astroturf greens and chlorinated blues. An early shot has Swift dumping cotton candy into a blender — a perfect metaphor for the bubble-gum-hued visuals and dizzying parade of Lgbtq celebrity cameos to follow.
Released in the middle of Pride month, “You Need to Calm Down” is Swift’s attempt at producing a gay anthem. Despite staying silent during the 2016 election, prompting many to speculate that she voted for Donald Trump, Swift has amped up her activism in the last two years,...

Perhaps with a real estate eye toward a trade up to bigger digs more commensurate with the financial firepower of someone who rakes in an estimated $500,000 per episode for his co-starring role on the long-running hit sitcom “Modern Family,” Los Angeles-based actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson is looking to sell his New York City pied-à-terre for $1.495 million.
