Hair and makeup professionals aren’t paid enough to also be an actor’s therapist — nor are they trained for it. A growing wave of intimacy coordinators are.
Amanda Edwards has been an intimacy coordinator in film, TV, and theater since 2020, but she’s also a licensed therapist. Because of that background, she was asked to perform mental health care for people on set. Just as she’d have to deal with how to portray an intimate sex scene properly and with appropriate consent, directors and producers were asking her to mitigate mental health crises when filming other intense scenes.

How can we minimize harm to our performers, to our audience members?” Edwards told IndieWire. “I was doing mental health crisis mitigation for not only the cast members who were performing the thing, but also for the crew members who...

On this week’s “Real Time” on HBO, Bill Maher addressed the recent “Quiet on Set” documentary, which explored exploitation of children in Nickelodeon programming. Maher then used that to launch into a wider discussion expressing skepticism of modern progressive gender politics, including how much kids are exposed to nontraditional gender identities.
In a featured “New Rule” segment titled “Kid ‘n Prey”, Maher opened up, “And finally, New Rule: as one of the few people in the public eye who’s gone through life and never had kids, someone has to tell me, why am I always having to defend them? I don’t even like kids. But I also think it’s every adult’s job to protect them.”
He asked the crowd if they’d been watching Max/Investigation Discovery documentary “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.”

Amid new scrutiny on child performers in the wake of the Quiet on Set docuseries, former Disney actress Christy Carlson Romano is opening up about the moments when she and her mother had to speak up on the set of Disney show Even Stevens, which Romano starred in as a teen.
In a conversation on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast, which also included Bialik’s fellow Blossom alum Jenna von Oÿ, Bialik asked the former child stars about times in which they had to assert themselves during production and what “worked well” in managing to be heard.
Romano noted that there were a couple of times when she was able to have a say in the production choices. One was when writers would come to her to draw from her own experiences while writing for her character, Ren. “They would be like, ‘Hey, you just turned 16. Are boys interesting to you?...

Max brings his “ridiculous vision” of a Kill Bill-meets-Austin Powers visual to life in the action-packed silly video for his new single, “Wasabi.” Oh, and he enlists none other than his wife Emily Schneider as his kung-fu-fighting hero and Alyson Stoner as the video’s smirking villain.
The video follows Max’s wife — in a lime green, Seventies hero outfit — breaking into an abandoned warehouse where she fights off guards and ninjas in an attempt to free Max from the grasp of Stoner, who nearly force-feeds him a spoonful of wasabi.

A veritable army of Disney Channel stars are reuniting for a very un-Disney project.
Matthew Scott Montgomery (“So Random!”), Debby Ryan, Alyson Stoner, Kevin Chamberlin (“Jessie”), Tim Bagley, Shayne Topp (“So Random!”) and Damien Haas (“So Random!”) have all signed on to appear in an upcoming LGBTQ+ horror thriller directed by Allisyn Snyder.
Titled “Howdy, Neighbor!,” the upcoming film is written by Montgomery, and is formatted as a “screenlife” film, with all of the footage occurring on computer screens. Montgomery stars as Benjamin, a young queer millenial actor living in West Hollywood who was once a famous child actor. When a new neighbor Chase (Grant Jordan) moves across the hall and reveals himself as a fan, Benjamin begins investigating the oddly familiar man with his best friend Harley (Ryan). Aside from the former Disney Channel stars, the supporting cast also includes Sterling Sulieman, Adam Faison, Greer Grammer and Kimmy Shields.

On June 16, Selena Gomez joined Amy Schumer, Tracee Ellis Ross, Quinta Brunson, Molly Shannon, and Bridget Everett for a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss their experiences in the entertainment industry. Gomez began acting in 2002 and gained widespread fame as Alex Russo on Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place" when she was 15. During the discussion, the actor openly commented on her experience being sexualized by the entertainment industry at such a young age and the obligation she felt to release sexy album covers when she began pursuing her music career.
After touching on their respective projects - including "Black-ish," "Life After Beth," "Abbott Elementary," and more - the illustrious group of women slipped into a discussion about toxic beauty standards placed on women in the entertainment industry. "For someone like Selena, who was sexualized at such a young age [it must have been difficult]," Schumer says,...

The Baker family is back! On March 18, Disney+ released Cheaper By the Dozen, starring Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union. And now, wE! decided to compare the Kenya Barris-created version to the original. Okay, not the actual original 1950 version—but the 2003 "Wow, Charlie Baker is so hot" version that we all know and love. Cheaper by the Dozen premiered in 2003, starring an incredible lineup including: Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hilary Duff, Alyson Stoner, Piper Perabo and Tom Welling. Later, in 2005, Eugene Levy, Carmen Electra, Taylor Lautner and Jaime King joined the A-listers for Cheaper by the Dozen 2. And while the 2022 version has an equally...

The remake of the 2003 film – itself a remake – follows the Bakers, a mixed family of 12, headed by Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union
It feels very Disney to have Cheaper by the Dozen premiering on the company’s streaming service, Disney+, in 2022. The family film is the remake of a remake – the 2022 version puts a new spin on the 2003 movie of the same name, which updated the 1950 movie based on the the semi-autobiographical novel by siblings Frank Butler Gilbreth Jr and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. It’s also potent nostalgia bait for young millennial parents; the 2003 version, starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt as the parents of 12 rowdy children, was a reliable (if tepidly reviewed) family-friendly staple of the 2000s whose brood contained a bevy of millennial-beloved stars – Hilary Duff, Piper Perabo, Tom Welling, Alyson Stoner.

Trigger warning: The following story contains mentions of conversion therapy, religious shame, and suicidal ideation.
Pride Month is a celebration, but it's also a reminder that there's still substantial work to be done before all members of the LGBTQ+ community feel fully safe and accepted. In an interview published on June 30, Alyson Stoner detailed her experience undergoing gay "conversion therapy," or "reparative therapy," the practice of targeting LGBTQ+ youth with the goal of changing their sexual or gender identities. The painful experience came at a time when Alyson was struggling deeply with her sexuality and had fallen in love with a woman for the first time, a pivotal moment that clashed dangerously with her religious upbringing.
"I see the body as something that is shameful, that is not to be trusted. It actually ends up messing with my ability to foster genuine relationships with others and myself.
