"Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry died on October 24, 1991, at the age of 70. It was pretty widely known that Roddenberry widely used cocaine, quaaludes, methamphetamines, and a variety of other recreational drugs, a fact discussed tastefully and frankly in Joel Engel's 1994 biography "Gene Roddenberry: The Myth and the Man Behind Star Trek." Roddenberry's health suffered as a result of his drug use, and his body was dealt a major blow in 1989 when he suffered a stroke. He was still working on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" at the time but had to take a step back in the show's third season for health reasons.
The show continued until 1994, and Roddenberry — already famous for creating "Star Trek" in 1966 — lived long enough to see his legacy cemented in a new decade. "NextGen" represented a "purer" version of Roddenberry's vision as presented back in 1966. This one was his baby.

Andi Peters has praised ITV’s daytime programming for “championing diversity on screen in leading roles”.
On Tuesday (28 March), Peters was the recipient of a Rts Programme Award for Loose Men, a special all-male edition of daily chat show Loose Women.
The episode aired in October to mark Black History Month, with Peters hosting alongside panellists Jordan Banjo, Ore Oduba and Shaun Wallace.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (30 March), Peters showed off the award while praising ITV for their commitment to diversity on stage and joking that white presenters Susanna Reid and Richard Arnold were “outnumbered”.
“Can I just say one thing very quickly?” he asked. “I just think on ITV daytime, we have celebrated diversity. Look at the desk right now. You’re outnumbered. Doesn’t happen all the time.

Richard Arnold almost vomited on live TV after drinking an “offal shake” on today’s Good Morning Britain (15 November).
The morning programme’s Entertainment Editor took part in a challenge named “Retch for the Stars”, modelled after an I’m a Celebrity Bushtucker Trial.
In order to win stars, Arnold first had a large yellow snake wrapped around his shoulders while answering trivia about the season so far.
Next, the presenter was tasked with retrieving stars from boxes that were also filled with creatures including mealworms, a lizard and cockroaches.
After collecting the physical stars from their containers with ease, Arnold finally had to drink a shake made of offal, served in a cocktail glass.
“It’s got liver, heart, kidney, all blended,” co-host Andi Peters added.
As the timer clicked down to the last seconds, Arnold drank the concoction as quickly as possible. However, it didn’t take long...

Johnny Depp has failed in his attempt to challenge the ruling in the U.K. High Court that he was violent to his former wife Amber Heard.
Last year, the actor waged a three-week libel case against the publisher of The Sun newspaper over a 2018 article calling him a “wife beater.” Depp claimed that Heard’s allegations of domestic violence were “a choreographed hoax.” However, Judge Andrew Nicol found that Depp had been violent toward Heard on at least 12 occasions, and rejected Depp’s case.
Depp sought permission to appeal the ruling, claiming the judge had failed to assess the evidence properly and calling for a full re-trial. The actor’s legal team sought to introduce new evidence, which they claimed undermined Heard’s credibility as a witness.
Depp’s lawyer, Andrew Caldecott, said Heard told a “calculated and manipulative lie” in a pledge to donate her $7 million divorce settlement to charity,...

In a massive new interview, Outlander and Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore has been looking back on the time he spent writing for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
One of the more interesting tidbits in Moore’s interview with Collider this week is how he got a job writing for The Next Generation in the first place – by strong-arming a script he’d written onto an unsuspecting set tour guide after his former girlfriend had used her connections to get him there.
“I just decided I was going to give it a shot, and I sat down and wrote an episode and I tucked it under my arm and I brought it with me on the set tour,” he recalled. “I convinced the guy that was giving the set tour, his name was Richard Arnold to read the script. He liked it and...

It happened! Ed Sheeran finally got a glimpse of the two-year-old girl named Isla who strangely looks exactly like him. While appearing on ITV's Good Morning Britain, the "Shape of You" crooner was presented with a picture of Isla by Richard Arnold. "She's not mine," joked Sheeran after looking at the photo. "She's not mine! It's mad the kind of things that go viral." More seriously, Sheeran opened up about his future, and kids seem to be a big part of it. "I don't want to be touring when I have kids, I want to be like nipping out every now and then and being able to actually be a father so yeah, I think I would definitely love kids," he added. ...

A few weeks have passed, but people still haven't gotten over their shocking resemblance, so Good Morning Britain host Richard Arnold decided to get to the bottom of things during a recent interview with Ed. After showing the British singer-songwriter a photo of Isla, Ed broke into a big smile. "She's not mine!" he joked. "It's mad the kind of things that go viral." Michael Fassbender doesn’t talk about his onscreen romance turned real-life love affair, in fact very rarely does he mention his girlfriend Alicia Vikander.
But these days, he seemingly can’t escape questions about his two-year relationship with Vikander, 28, while promoting his new film The Light Between Two Oceans, which she also stars in.
“Is it hard for you when everyone wants to ask you about ?” Good Morning Britain‘s Richard Arnold asked Fassbender, 39, during an interview on Wednesday. “It’s not really difficult. I just answer what I choose to answer and don’t answer other things,” the actor responded.

Susanna Reid and David Beckham. It's happened before and, since his most recent appearance on the couch, viewers have suggested that she's been flirting with him again (to be fair, he was the one to say she was wearing an "amazing" dress).
Susanna's actually said before that she hates being called a flirt, and fair enough. But there are plenty of other reasons to love her:
1. She is a proper fan girl
Witness her interview with Luke Evans, when she asked what it was like biting people (for a vampire film, obviously) and he offered to demonstrate. Giggles and 'I can't believe this is my life' looks - we totally relate. How refreshing to see someone completely and utterly failing to play it cool.
2. She bloody loves a fart joke
After a suspicious rasp from Richard Arnold, Susanna gets the giggles so badly she can barely say her next link.

Celebrities are not known for their revolutionary spirit, what with barricades being everso hard to scale when one is accessorised with advertising contracts and publicity commitments, but I am particularly excited about the upcoming red carpet film awards, because I sense a revolution is imminent. Do you hear the people sing? Singing a song of angry men! It is the music of a people who will not be patronised by entertainment journalists again!
The Baftas are a week-and-a-half away and the Oscars – the royale with cheese of film awards – take place in less than a month. At the rate the revolution is currently building, I'll be disappointed if there isn't full-on bloodshed on the red carpet, with Daybreak presenters lying slain across Los Angeles, their last words a pitiful bleat of "so who are you wearing?...

Strictly Come Dancing cha-cha-chas back into your Saturday nights this weekend, offering a glittery and ever-so-slightly-camp alternative to the sobbing and warbling of ITV's The X Factor.
After ruling the ratings roost in 2012, the X Factor team and ITV will have been waiting nervously to find out who their competition is this year, but following the unveiling of the lineup on The One Show tonight, Simon Cowell and co will probably be sleeping a little bit more easily.
The biggest names on the lineup are probably Dragons' Den star Deborah Meaden, BBC Breakfast's Susanna Reid, rugby play Ben Cohen and Wag Abbey Clancy. It's hardly a selection of names to get your pulse racing.
Of course Strictly lineups have never been exactly brimming with A-listers. From orange-faced antiques babbler David Dickinson and Celebrity Big Brother reject Claire Sweeney in series one to the likes of bland acting bore Colin Salmon...

Richard Arnold believes it was ''natural'' for him to leave 'Strictly Come Dancing'. The showbiz journalist - who departed with his partner Erin Boag last night (18.11.12) after a dance-off against Westlife singer Nicky Byrne - did not feel upset about leaving the BBC One show because he felt it was the correct time for him to end his dancing journey. He said: ''I said to judge Len Goodman I think it was the natural order for me to go this weekend. Now you've got eight couples left who are brilliant at what they do. ''You think of the people who are...

Eliminated Strictly Come Dancing contestant Richard Arnold has said that he wants to see Lisa Riley win this year's competition. Riley and her professional partner Robin Windsor have achieved the highest scores in this year's competition so far for their foxtrot and cha cha cha. They picked up 32 out of a possible 40 points on Saturday's (November 17) performance show at Wembley for a samba set to 'Car Wash' by Rose Royce. "Michael Vaughan and I have enjoyed a very healthy and hearty bromance - he's fantastic," Daybreak showbiz editor Arnold told The Sun. "But I'd love to see Lisa raise the trophy - she's an incredible person. "She's had a terrible year with her mum passing away, but the way the nation have taken her to their hearts is (more)...

Eliminated Strictly Come Dancing contestant Richard Arnold has said that the BBC One show celebrates the "best of British". Daybreak showbiz editor Arnold and his professional dance partner Erin Boag were eliminated from the competition on Sunday (November 18). "I think Strictly is very much in keeping with the national psyche post the Olympics," Arnold told The Sun. "We're still surfing that feel-good factor from the summer. Strictly is a show that appeals to all generations. It's about people working hard and achieving, minding their Ps and Qs and being gracious in defeat, which echoes the sentiments from the Olympics. "It really is a show that's (more)...

Showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold is the latest celebrity to be voted out of Strictly Come Dancing. The former GMTV reporter and his dance partner Erin Boag left the competition after finishing in the bottom two alongside Westlife star Nicky Byrne and professional Karen Hauer. In the dance-off, Arnold performed a salsa to a version of the Wham! hit 'Club Tropicana' and Byrne a jive to 'Jailhouse Rock'. After both couples had performed their routines for a second time in front of the 6,000 spectators at London's Wembley Arena, Craig Revel Horwood gave his verdict. "Just for sheer exuberance and energy, I am going to save Nicky and Karen," he said, opting to send Arnold home. "Well, you both performed very well tonight, but for content and energy as well, I am going to save Nicky and Karen," added Darcey (more)...

Richard Arnold has become the sixth celebrity to be booted off 'Strictly Come Dancing'. The TV personality was voted off the BBC series tonight (18.11.12) after he and professional dance partner Erin Boag failed to impress the judges with their salsa in front of 6,000 people at Wembley arena where the charity special show took place as part of Children In Need. Judges Darcey Bussell, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli unanimously opted to save former Westlife star Nicky Byrne and his partner Karen Hauer - who landed in the bottom two with Richard - because their dance was more energetic. With Wembley just around the corner, it was always going to be a dramatic weekend on Strictly, but not even the craziest of predictions had Kimberley Walsh and Fern Britton in the bottom two. Ultimately, it was Fern who got the chop from the judges and Kimberley (and her bum) were saved to dazzle us another day. But who danced the best this weekend? Digital Spy has picked out our Top 5 routines from Saturday night's ballroom action. Denise Van Outen and James Jordan's paso doble:
Top of the leaderboard and perhaps uncatchable in terms of judges' scoring now. The big question for Denise is when will she start getting 10s and can she win the race for the first 40-pointer of the series? Richard Arnold and Erin Boag's Charleston:
The odds are that Richard will be leaving the show at Wembley. But at least he made it far...

Colin Salmon has put his exit from Strictly Come Dancing down to the height difference between himself and Kristina Rihanoff. The Arrow and Resident Evil actor became the fourth contestant to leave the show on Sunday (November 4), losing out to Daybreak showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold and Erin Boag in the dance-off. "It's difficult when you have such a height difference," Salmon told The Sun. "Aesthetically, I don't think it will ever be a pleasing sight to see a tall guy with a short girl. It will never be that standard ballroom look, so we were always having to fight that. "Kristina is (more)...

The actor and his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff left the competition after finishing in the bottom two alongside showbiz reporter Richard Arnold and professional Erin Boag. Both couples performed their foxtrot routines for a second time in the dance-off, with Salmon dancing to 'Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive' and Arnold Shirley Bassey's 'Big Spender' in a effort to impress the judges and stay in the competition. Craig Revel Horwood delivered his verdict first and chose to save Arnold. "One couple in the dance-off was better, and one couple was worse," he said. "It just proves that can happen, and the pressure is enormous. "But based on this performance alone, the couple I would like to save is Richard and Erin." (more)...

Johnny Ball has said that he is "bitterly disappointed" to have left Strictly Come Dancing. The TV entertainer became the first celebrity to be voted off the BBC show over Richard Arnold on last night's programme (October 14). Ball said that he was particularly upset, as he never got the chance to show his younger side to the audience. "I never got to show how youthful I can appear, because I was always in a tails and high collar," he told The Sun. "The plan was for something lighter next time, and now I will never get the chance. But someone has to go out every week - it is bitterly disappointing for whoever it is." The bottom two couples performed their routines once more in the dance-off, with Arnold and Boag doing the cha cha cha to The B-52's 'Love Shack'. Ball and Lukosiute performed the foxtrot to Michael Bublé's 'Everything' in order to stay in the competition.
