Singer Neeti Mohan’s new collaborative single with composer Shamir Tandon ‘Tum Humein Milo’ is an elegant and soulful track, expressing the great desire for love, its bereft longing, and waiting for something that may never come.
A seven minute long track, the song has a tendency to experiment and is more progressive in nature fusing electronic pop, classical music, symphonic, ambient, and film music. However, instead of standard fusion the song is more in the domain of bringing many different musical components to light before switching unexpectedly.
As far as Neeti Mohan’s singing goes, it is powerful and soulful accompanied by some very strong instrumental melodies, though it is her voice which at its peak is shining and extremely passionate in its delivery. Instead of doing the standard filmy style singing, her voice feels more rooted and thus more relatable.

New Delhi, June 26 (Ians) For someone who has worked with the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Manna Dey, Jagjit Singh and has contributed to the soundtracks of popular movies including ‘Page 3’, ‘The Body’ and the recently released Nawazuddin Siddiqui-Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘Afwaah’, the paradigm shift in Hindi film music is hard to ignore.
Music composer Shamir Tandon points out, “Now, films have fewer songs and there is no lip-synching. In fact, some films are songless. There are not many situations that warrant a music number. The duration of songs has been reduced too. It may appear for a few seconds and then fade out, unlike the past when multiple ‘antras’ would play.”
The music composer, who has worked with Sudhir Mishra in the past too, tells Ians that it is always a pleasure associating with the latter as he has a clear vision and does not stick to tried-and-true concepts,...

Upset with the Censor Board for bleeping out the words ‘Choos Le’ (suck) from her song ‘Jawani Ki Bank Loot Le’ in her upcoming film Loot, firecracker Rakhi Sawant is in attack mode this Diwali.

Music composers and songwriters in Mumbai will soon challenge a Mumbai High Court decision that was passed last week in Supreme Court. The verdict says that Indian Performing Right Society Limited (Iprs) that safeguards the copyright of music composers and lyricists is not entitled to claim or demand royalty or license fees from FM Radio channels for the songs and music they broadcast.
They voiced their concerns in a press conference on August 2, 2011 in Mumbai which was attended by Javed Akhtar, Ravi Shankar Sharma (Chairman – Music Composers Association of India), Anand, Vishal Bharadwaj, Sameer Anjaan, Loy (Shankar Ehsaan Loy), Ram Sampat, Jalees Sherwani (President – Film Writers Association), Anand Shrivastava (President – McAi), Milind Shrivastava, Sajid-Wajid, Sulaiman, Lalit Pandit, Surender Sodhi, Aashish Rego and Shameer Tandon.
The decision of the High Court effectively means that there is no copyright incorporated in a sound recording and that it is owned solely by the music label.
