Fans of the much-loved radio presenter Steve Wright – who died suddenly last Monday – have vented their fury after the BBC’s Breakfast News programme discussed an upcoming tribute to the DJ – while mistakenly showing a photo of a completely different radio personality.
On the magazine news program Sunday morning, presenter Luxmy Gopal introduced a forthcoming tribute to Wright, who helmed a radio show for the BBC for four decades, but the screen flashed to a photo of equally familiar former BBC radio DJ Simon Bates.
Gopal told viewers: “Tributes continue to pour in from the world of radio for the legendary DJ Steve Wright. We will speak to his co-host Janey Lee Grace later on in the programme.”
Her co-host Roger Johnson spotted the on-air error and quickly said: “That’s not Steve Wright by the way in case you were wondering, that’s Simon Bates.”
