Ktla anchors and reporters are sharing heartfelt tributes to Chris Burrous, Ktla 5’s Morning News reporter and anchor who died Thursday at 43.
Anchor Dayna Devon, who worked with Burrous on weekends, tearfully remembered her colleague as “a true genius..he just got it.” You can watch the video above.
Christina Pascucci wrote on Instagram, “This morning he was supposed to be sitting next to me.” “I keep thinking ‘what would Chris do’ in this situation,” Pascucci wrote. “Chris, we will do our best to honor you today and always in every assignment, but nobody does it like you.”
Anchor Chris Schauble tweeted that Burrous was a multi-faceted talent. “No one has his amazing range. Unmatched as a proud husband & father. Right now he’s telling the angels where to find the best food.”

Someone stop that hot runner! Ktla 5 Newscaster Wendy Burch grabbed a nearby runner for an on-camera interview about reports of shark sightings in Dana Point, California, and was clearly flustered by the guy's ripped body and Australian "accent." So when the interview was over, she did what was necessary and jokingly chased him down. The "Aussie" runner - who was actually identified in Facebook comments as an (American) UCLA student and pole vaulter named Riley Turner - said that beach-goers shouldn't worry about the sharks. "I mean, the sharks are always going to be there," Turner says, in a wavering Australian accent.

The PBS SoCal special “Variety Studio: Actors on Actors” is among the nominees for the 67th annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards.
The interview special that features pairings of prominent actors discussing their craft is a contender in the entertainment programming category. “Actors on Actors,” a co-production between Variety and PBS SoCal, will vie against Ktla’s “Live From the Oscars” and Kcbs/Kcal’s “Lexus: Music Uncovered” series.
In the competitive investigative reporting category, Fox’s Kttv is up against Kcbs and Univision’s Kmex, which has two nominations. Hard news reporting noms went to Kcbs/Kcal’s David Goldstein and Catherine Gelera; Kvea’s Azucena Gomez; Kmex’s Antonio Valverde; and separate noms for Knbc’s Robert Kovacik and Tony Shin.
In the competition for the three regularly scheduled newscast categories, there are no nominations; all stations that submit entries are contenders. The morning and daily newscast races this year are among Kttv,...

Univision’s flagship Kmex-tv leads the list of stations vying for the 66th annual Los Angeles area Emmy Awards.
Kmex landed 20 noms, including bids for hard news reporting (for reporter Antonio Valverde), investigative reporting (for reporter Leon Krauze) and reporting on crime/social issues. Knbc-tv was second with 16 mentions, followed by Ktla (14), Kabc (13) and Telemundo’s Kvea (10). Time Warner Cable Deportes was the top cabler with 9 noms, tied with indie pubcaster Kcet.

There are no nominations in the top three newscast categories, which include the category of late newscasts (7 p.m.-midnight); all stations that choose to enter in any of the three categories are considered in the final judging.

Shake, rattle and roll. Los Angeles experienced a 4.4 magnitude earthquake Monday morning. The real star of the morning, however, was Ktla anchor Chris Schauble, whose "Oh, no!" face was captured in its full glory on-camera. Schauble's reaction - including he and co-anchor Megan Henderson's desk-dive to avoid debris falling from the ceiling of the studio - has gone viral in the wake of the event, with .gifs and videos of his facial expression being passed around on Twitter, Vine and elsewhere. United States Geographical Survey seismologist Robert Graves told the Associated Press this morning's quake was "typical" for Southern California,...

Say you're a morning news anchor, and an earthquake hits in the middle of your live broadcast. Do you A) continue reporting calmly on what just happened or B) immediately take refuge under the desk?
Megan Henderson and Chris Schauble of L.A. station Ktla chose B Monday morning (March 17), and a viral video was born.
In defense of the two anchors, they were doing what people are told to do in the event of an earthquake: Get under a desk or table. And considering the heavy lights and equipment that typically hang from the ceiling in a TV studio, it's an understandable reaction.
Still, their reaction is pretty much the reason YouTube exists. The quake measured at a 4.4 on the Richter scale and was centered a few miles from the Ktla studio (which, incidentally, is in the same building as Zap2it; both are owned by Tribune Co.). There...

You already know by now that we here in Los Angeles tend to overreact when it comes to environmental happenings. Temperature drops below 70 degrees? Snowmageddon. It rains for longer than three hours straight? Tsunami. Earthquake that registers 4.4? Duck and cover! To be fair, it's definitely better to take precautions during an earthquake, but the reaction from the Ktla team when the quake hit their live broadcast on Monday morning keeps making us laugh, even after the fifth viewing. We think it's because of the way Chris Schauble's eyes bug out of his head when the room starts shaking. A second later, both he and his co-anchor Megan Henderson have hit the deck....

In the middle of Ktla's Monday morning broadcast, La was hit with a 4.4-magnitude tremor, so anchors Chris Schauble and Megan Henderson stopped everything and crawled under their news desk. Fortunately, everyone was Ok, and the news channel laughed it off, tweeting the "many faces" of Chris during the earthquake. For his part, Chris quickly embraced his Internet stardom, using his surprise reaction as his new profile picture on Twitter and replying to the funny tweets and memes that have been pouring in. In case you haven’t heard, a 4.4 earthquake hit Los Angeles earlier this morning — after which Twitter exploded with celeb quips and experiences. But for those of us sitting on less-shaky ground, the experience was nothing but a bunch of 140-character afterthoughts … until now.
Luckily, the Ktla news team was hard at work filming a show when the earthquake hit. In the following video, you can watch as Megan Henderson nearly talks right through the quake, only stopping when co-anchor Chris Schauble has a minor panic attack. The two quickly get under their news desk — clearly they’ve practiced — for...

Los Angeles felt a 4.4 magnitude earthquake on Monday morning, and Ktla anchors Megan Henderson and Chris Schauble were caught in the middle of it on live television. During their unintentionally hilarious reaction (above), the morning news anchors dove under their desk after Schauble's facial expression declared, “Earthquake,” before his mouth did.
