By announcing that he was transgender, Oscar nominee Elliot Page has increased the visibility of a community that has been calling for just that, as well as more accurate representation in movies, TV shows and other forms of entertainment.
The actor, known both for beloved indies like “Juno” and superhero franchises like “X-Men,” also said he was gender nonbinary, with he/they pronoun preferences, in an emotional Instagram post. The statement both celebrated his revelation and underscored the dangers trans people face around the world.
“The vast majority of Americans still believe they’ve never met someone in their family, workplace, or school, who is transgender,” said Nick Adams, director of transgender media at GLAAD. “When someone like Elliot Page tells the world that he is in fact transgender, an actor that people have respected and admired and loved for years, it allows them to feel as if they now know a trans person.

Rich Paul, CEO and founder of Klutch Sports Group, has been appointed to UTA’s Board of Directors. Paul also serves as Head of UTA Sports and is a UTA partner, roles he assumed in July 2019 after UTA took a significant stake in Klutch Sports Group.
Paul founded Klutch in 2012 and built it into a sports representation powerhouse with NBA clients including LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Draymond Green, Ben Simmons and John Wall. In the past year, since working with UTA, Klutch has expanded into professional football and baseball with acquisitions of Revolution Sports Agency and Tidal Sports Group, adding key NFL and Mlb clients. In recent weeks, leading sports agent Omar Wilkes has also joined Klutch.
“Our association with Rich Paul has been a true bright spot since he partnered with us a year ago,” said UTA CEO and Board member Jeremy Zimmer. “We were determined to come together and build a cutting edge,...

Exclusive: UTA has created the UTA Opportunity Fund, which will provide support to current and prospective employees facing financial challenges as they build and maintain their careers in entertainment.
The fund is financed through employee contributions and is in line with UTA’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce. Following its launch in-house about a month ago, UTA has been making one-time and recurring contributions. Assistance for individuals in-need is determined by an employee-led committee.
Since its inception, for example, the fund has helped with a child’s monthly school tuition while the parent was dealing with unexpected funeral expenses. In another instance, it has provided a monthly stipend to an employee who sends money home each month to support his low-income family.
“Diversity is essential for any successful organization and we must remove the barriers that inhibit talented people from entering the industry,” said UTA board member Blair Kohan,...

United Talent Agency announced on Tuesday that it has appointed Shanique Bonelli-Moore as its executive director of inclusion.
In the new full-time post, Bonelli-Moore will work directly with UTA clients to champion representative storytelling, while also leading the company’s inclusion efforts in hiring, retention and promotion.
“I’ve spent my career focused on the fact that companies are the most dynamic and successful when diversity and inclusion are recognized, valued and deeply integrated into the work,” Bonelli-Moore said in a statement. “It’s both an opportunity and an honor to lead the charge for UTA at this extraordinary moment in time. Having worked alongside UTA leadership over the past year, I appreciate the depth of commitment and support. UTA has made great progress over the past few years, not just internally but through the powerful stories our clients tell, and I can’t wait to build on that foundation.

United Talent Agency’s founders (and partners) are taking off their suits tomorrow, rolling up their sleeves and doing the real work across this country and overseas. UTA will close all offices internationally Friday for its seventh annual Project Impact volunteer day to enable the agency’s 900 employees to dedicate their time and service at roughly 40 volunteer sites worldwide.
That means CEO Jeremy Zimmer, Co-Presidents Jay Sures and David Kramer as well as Chairman Jim Berkus and Board Members Tracey Jacobs, Matt Rice, Blair Kohan and Peter Benedek will all be volunteering, too. Cell phones off? Ummm … probably not, but it’s the life of an agent.
They are not the only ones, ICM Partners is doing the same tomorrow for offices on both coasts.

Frances McDormand introduced household audiences to the term “inclusion rider” during her instantly iconic Oscar acceptance speech this spring. At Wednesday night’s Crystal + Lucy Awards, the “Fargo” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” star explained the origins of her very public plea to Hollywood.
“I’m an actor, and a producer, but I have more experience as an actor, and this is one of the reasons why I should not be allowed to improvise,” she told the crowd at the Beverly Hilton for Women in Film, Los Angeles’ annual gala fundraiser. McDormand credited UTA agent Blair Kohan for the reference; two nights before the Academy Awards, the women sat next to each other at a party and the exec asked if the actress had heard of inclusion riders.
“I have been vaguely aware of and completely intrigued by the series of USC Annenberg studies on gender parity in film and television,...

Updated With Full List Of Scripts, Writers, And Reps: Catherine The Great, about the rise and life of the famous (sometimes notorious) 18th-Century Russian monarch, was the top vote-getter among 70 scripts chosen for the 2014 Black List of the year’s best un-produced scripts. The screenplay, by Los Angeles writer and producer Kristina Lauren Anderson, was announced as part of an hour-plus process on Twitter and YouTube this morning.
Each of the 70 screenplays on this 10th annual list was chosen by a group of 250 development executives, agents and other Hollywood insiders as among the year’s best un-produced scripts in a process overseen by Franklin Leonard of http://www.blcklst.com. Anderson’s screenplay received 51 votes.
Other notables in the list include writer/actor/director Kenneth Lonergan with Manchester-By-The-Sea, which is being produced by Matt Damon and Chris Moore. Randall Green had two scripts make the list, The Swimsuit Issue and Cartoon Girl.

There is either a couple of football fans or Jerry Maguire/Moneyball with this year’s most liked unproduced screenplay. Close to 300 hundred film executives provided with the Black List creators a top ten of their favorite screenplays of the year and the consensus first overall pick (with 65 votes) comes from the recently featured in Variety (10 Screenwriters to Watch 2012) tandem of Rajiv Joseph & Scott Rothman and their drama which has nothing to do with enlisting in the armed forces. Draft Day – about the day in the life of a fictitious Buffalo Bills Gm appears to currently be in turnaround — which only means I expect to see this greenlight perhaps a little later than sooner – worth noting: top spot almost guarantees that the film will indeed go into production (2006, 2010 and 2011 are the exceptions.) Among the more alluring logline subjects we find on the list, I’d be keen on reading the...
