Filmmaker Vasan Bala, who earlier tasted success with his streaming film ‘Monica O My Darling’, is back with another Ott release, this time a docu-series centering the pulp film industry of India titled ‘Cinema Marte Dum Tak’.
The director revealed that actress Richa Chadha used to organise screenings of pulp films along with her then roommate. Vasan shared his earliest memory of watching a pulp film which was on VHS.
He said, “My earliest memory of watching a pulp movie is on VHS. Ramsay films would be lot in demand back in the day but, when the VHS were not available, the vendors would give VHS of Hari Ram Singh films, Vinod Talwar films which had similar actor but one could figure out that they were a little different in terms of making and the structure of the film.”

Actor-turned-film critic Kamaal Rashid Khan, better known as Krk, who was arrested on Monday for a 2020 tweet, has done a few Bhojpuri films and just two Hindi films in his career. One, the action-thriller ‘Deshdrohi’ and the 2014 runaway hit ‘Ek Villain’, where he had a cameo appearance. Nevertheless, he is a social media star commanding a vast loyal following.
In fact, ‘Deshdrohi’ is one of the worst films that one could ever think of and that could give nightmares to the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa and Francois Truffaut over its outrageous content, pulpy writing, bad acting and everything bad that one could think of.
But, if the logs of Torrents are put to audit, ‘Deshdrohi’ will secure a spot among the most downloaded films and the ones with the highest number of seeds, thanks to hostelites and engineering students.

Ram Gopal Varma made Main Madhuri Dixit Ban-na Chahti Hoon with his muse Antara Mali playing the wannabe Dixit. No one batted an eyelid. But it is not going to be easy for Kanti Shah, the sleaze specialist of Khooni Shaitaan, Pyaasa Haiwaan, Khooni Bhootni, Mms Kand and Sapna Ki Jawani! His new film is called, Main Sunny Leone Banna Chahti Hoon. Apparently it is the story of a virgin who becomes a top notch porn star. Sunny and her husband Daniel Weber are neither amused nor flattered. While they refused to comment on this unauthorized homage to Ms Leone, sources close to the couple say they plan to take legal action against Shah for using Sunny Leone's name without permission. "Making Main Sunny Leone Banna Chahti Hoon is not the same thing as Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon. We all know the difference," says a source.

Whenever someone utters the name 'Kanti Shah', what immediately pops up in our minds are the names (and also posters) of sleazy films like Fauji Fauj Mein Padosi Mauj Mein, Pyaasa Haiwan, Phoolan Hasina Ramkali, Khooni Shaitan, Pyaasi Bhootni and likes. The Usp of this self-confessed 'King of sleaze' film maker is that he always makes films which are 'topical'. And it is no rocket science to say that the 'topic' that is trending these days all over is that of the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, wherein the main 'villain' is supposedly Indrani Mukherjee. No wonder then, Kanti Shah put on his thinking caps and got into making the film and named it as Sheena Murder Case. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, Kanti Shah said, "My film is indeed based on the sensational murder case of Sheena Bora. My film will see two heroines and two heroes,...

The likes of Kanti Shah may be well be ruling the C-Grade market but when it comes to A-grade adult-only content Ekta Kapoor continues to be the Numero Uno queen. With Ragini Mms-2 all set to be among the Top-5 'adult-only' hits till date, one can expect more from her production house in the coming years. This is huge because Ragini Mms-2 is now being spoken of in the same vein as Ghajini and Grand Masti, which made 100 crore each despite an 'A' certificate. Though Ragini Mms...

Films that gained a ‘cult following’ over the years, despite being unnoticed on release
Silsila
Yash Chopra is looked upon as the grandfather of candyfloss romance, an antithesis to the more ‘artistic’ genre of films. One wonders why. Here’s what his early films were about:
Unwed mothers and illegitimate children – Dhool ka Phool (1959)
Partition and the rise of Hindu fundamentalism – Dharmputra (1961)
Taut, song less thriller about a fugitive, a lone woman and a corpse – Ittefaq (1969)
A man who lives with his wife and the ‘other woman’, Hindi Cinema’s first Ménage à trois- Daag (1973)
In 1981, we had another of his equally risqué works, Silsila. Expectedly, sparks flew when the Screen God of the time shared screen space with the reigning diva. Rekha and Amitabh were quite an item on screen and allegedly, off screen too. The grapevine has it that Chopra was inspired to make Silsila on this relationship...

The very name of Sneha Tulli may not ring a bell, but this will soon be a name that will be famous for being the first person to make a biopic on Kanti Shah called Ye Hai Mumbai. For the uninitiated, Kanti is the man who is largely responsible for making many B-grade films in Bollywood. His films have not just given the front benchers many a reason to rejoice, but also somehow managed to rub many leading filmmakers the wrong way, by naming his films in tune with their big budget films. Lage Raho Partner, Free Entry, Shaadi Basanti Ki Honeymoon Gabbar Ka etc, are some of the names that have been made by this filmmaker. Rakesh Sabharwal, the Line Producer of Prince Movies producing Ye Hai Mumbai, confirmed the news stating that they do have a character inspired by Kanti Shah in the film, but he refused to...

Udaan Director: Vikramaditya MotwaneActors: Rajat Bharmecha, Ronit RoyRating: ***1/2Master director Kanti Shah’s unique contribution to the warped Indian male hormone, I’m afraid, will remain under-rated forever. I don’t know how many of you’ve heard of Mr Shah’s grind-house classics – Gunda, Loha, Phoolan Haseena Ramkali…. Video generation of the early ‘90s is likely to know him better, and perhaps relate to the four Bishop Cotton schoolboys in this film, caught at a late night show of Kanti Shah’s Angoor at Shimla’s Rivoli cinema. That Rivoli, I suppose, could well be in Delhi’s Cannaught Place. The title of the ...
