London, Aug 9 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has identified the one area that Team India need to bolster if they are to improve their Test record away from home and claim a first Icc World Test Championship title this cycle.
While India reached the most recent final of the Icc World Test Championship on the back of some great success on home soil, their form away from the sub-continent remains an ongoing concern for Hussain.
India recently defeated the West Indies 1-0 in the Caribbean and played some excellent cricket in Bangladesh at the end of last year to inch towards a maiden appearance in the World Test Championship Final, but results away from home have been mixed for Rohit Sharma’s side outside those two series.
Hussain believes when playing at home India have the right blend of players to continue to prosper.

New Delhi, Aug 8 (Ians) Former captain Nasser Hussain was impressed with how England’s women’s side fought back to draw the recent Ashes series against Australia, but he knows they must continue to evolve if they want to close the gap even further on the reigning Icc Women’s Cricket World Cup champions.
England showed their class by winning both the Odi and T20I components of the multi-format Ashes on home soil last month and defeat in the one-off Test in June meant the topsy-turvy series ended tied at eight points apiece as Australia retained the trophy for a fifth straight series.
There were plenty of positive signs for Heather Knight’s side and Hussain has challenged England to build on that performance and continue to improve ahead of the next Ashes series in Australia at the start of 2025.

London, Aug 3 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has backed veteran fast-bowler James Anderson to find his form and leave an impact during the side’s Test tour of India next year after an unimpressive time in the recent Ashes series.
Anderson struggled to leave an impact during the drawn 2-2 series against Australia, taking just five wickets at an average of 85.40 from four appearances. England’s next Test assignment is a five-match series in India from January 25 to March 11 next year, with Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamshala being the venues.
Anderson, who has the most Test wickets (690) for any fast bowler in the history of the format, has picked six of his 32 five-wicket hauls in Tests against India, with his average in the country being 29.32.
“Jimmy’s got a very good record against India…and you need a balanced attack. You need that experience for younger players to come in.

New Delhi, Aug 2 (Ians) After England and Australia were hit with heavy sanctions for maintaining slow over-rates during the entirety of the recently concluded Ashes 2023, former Australia and England captains Ricky Ponting and Nasser Hussain have proposed solutions for the concerning issue in Test cricket.
England lost 19 World Test Championship points due to sanctions in four of the Tests, while Australia dropped 10 points from one match. England were slow in all games except Headingley’s third Test, and Australia was penalised for a slow over-rate in Old Trafford’s fourth Test.
On the Icc Review, Icc Hall of Famer Ricky Ponting voiced his concern when asked about ways to rectify slow over-rate in Tests.
“I can’t see where all the time is going in the game, that’s the one thing I can’t understand. So, now there’s an extra half an hour played every day and still...

Broad dropped a bombshell at the end of Day 3 of the final Ashes Test against Australia by announcing his decision to retire from international cricket at the end of the series.
With a jaw-dropping 604 wickets as a pacer in the longest format, Broad walked into the sunset as one of the greatest players in modern-day Test cricket.
Even in his last series, he finished with 22 wickets, the highest for any England bowler at this year’s Ashes.
While announcing his retirement, Broad expressed that he could have carried on playing but chose not to.

London, Aug 1 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes that England will get better as a Test team after coming back from 2-0 down to make the series scoreline 2-2 in the recently-concluded Ashes series, while adding that they have started to tweak things along the way.
On Monday at The Oval, Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali delivered game-changing spells while Stuart Broad had a fairytale finish to his career by taking the last two wickets to help England beat Australia by 49 runs and make the final series scoreline 2-2.
“If you look at the players they have, I don’t think (Brendon) McCullum (head coach) is asking them do anything other than be themselves. He is saying, ‘go out and trust your way’. This is just the tip of the iceberg, I believe.”

London, July 31 (Ians) An extraordinary incident happened in the gripping fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval when England believed they dismissed premier Australia batter Steve Smith at the stroke of lunch on Day Five. But the batter was ruled not out, as England skipper Ben Stokes put down a crucial chance at leg slip.
The incident happened in the 66th over, with Smith batting on 39 when off-spinner Moeen Ali bowled a loopy delivery and the ball seemingly took the batter’s glove edge and popped into the hands of Stokes, who jumped to take a one-handed catch by fully stretching his right arm.
But the ball popped out of Stokes’ hands in a bid to land on the grass, before hitting the ground. Later, TV replays also seemed to suggest that Stokes was aware that it wasn’t a clean catch and was not in full control of the ball,...

London, July 31 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has stated that the hosts are “slight favourites” to win the fifth and decisive Ashes 2023 Test against Australia as the pitch will offer a turn on Day 5 at The Oval which will aid Ben Stokes’ side to level the series 2-2.
The lashing rain in London on Sunday forced the umpires to call stumps early on Day 4, with Australia closing the day four on 135 for no loss, still 249 runs away from taking the Ashes 3-1 and England needing 10 wickets to level the series.
“My feeling is that England are still slight favourites, even after Australia’s start. The pitch is spinning and a day-five Oval pitch does turn,” Hussain told Sky Sports.
He further added the rain has provided Moeen Ali with some additional time to recover from his groin strain, indicating that off-spinner’s recovery might play a crucial role on...

London, July 30 (Ians) Former England captain Michael Atherton hailed Stuart Broad after the veteran seamer’s announcement of retiring from all forms of cricket at the end of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval.
Broad, who made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2007, will go down as one of the greatest fast bowlers in the sport. London, July 30 (Ians) With veteran England fast-bowler Stuart Broad set to retire from all forms of the professional game post the conclusion of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval, former captain Nasser Hussain feels his retirement won’t influence his long-time bowling partner James Anderson on following the same path.
Anderson turned 41 on Sunday, the fourth day of the fifth and final day, and is England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker with 690 wickets. He came into the ongoing match with just four wickets in the series at an average of 76.75.
On Day Two, he struggled initially but was able to beat both edges of the bat and managed to take out Mitchell Marsh to pick figures of 1-67 in 26 overs, though Australia took a lead of 12 runs. England’s next Test assignment after the Ashes will be a five-match trip to India from January 25 to March 11.

London, July 30 (Ians) Retiring veteran England fast-bowler Stuart Broad received a guard of honour from Australia while walking out to bat one for one last time in Test cricket during Day Four of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval on Sunday.

London, July 30 (Ians) Former England captain Michael Vaughan, who was leading the national side when Stuart Broad began his Test cricket journey in 2007, showered praise on the veteran pacer after his decision to retire following the Ashes series, saying “all young players aspire to achieve what he has accomplished for the national side.”
Broad stunned the cricket world at the end of Day 3 of the final Ashes Test at The Oval on Saturday, when he announced his decision to call time on his 17-year long career at the conclusion of the ongoing series against Australia.
The 37-year-old has claimed 602 wickets in 167 Tests, making him the second most successful pacer in Test history behind team-mate James Anderson.

London, July 24 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has said he would play veteran fast bowler James Anderson in the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval starting from Thursday unless he thinks that his time in international cricket is over.
Anderson was rested for England’s three-wicket win at Headingley but returned to their side for the fourth Test at Manchester to pick figures of one for 81 in 37 overs. In the ongoing series, Anderson has taken just four wickets in three matches at an average of 76.75.
“What I do know is that Anderson has had two or three average games this summer and, over the course of his career, he has tended to bounce back from such displays, so I would play him unless he himself feels that he is finished at international level. Only the individual knows when the time is right to retire, whether they are physically and mentally done.

Manchester, July 23 (Ians) Australia have managed to retain the Ashes as the fourth Test at Old Trafford has ended in a draw due to rain on Sunday. The result means that the Ashes urn will be headed back to Australia after this series ends.
England, who needed five wickets to force a win with Australia needing 61 runs to force the hosts into batting again. The Ben Stokes-led side was in a dominant position for the majority of the match, but they have been denied a crack at victory due to rain not allowing any play to happen on day five.
It’s also the first time that England have played a draw under Stokes’ leadership. Australia, after being on the backfoot at Manchester, will now have a chance to go for a series win in England for the first time since 2001.

Manchester, July 21 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has urged the Ben Stokes-led side to be “ultra-aggressive” on Day Three of the fourth Ashes Test in Manchester, especially with heavy rain predicted for days four and five.
Opener Zak Crawley slammed a magnificent 189 off 182 deliveries and propelled England to take a lead of 67 runs after ending day two of the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford on 384-4. Moeen Ali and Joe Root also supported him with their respective half-centuries.
Crawley led England’s batting charge from the front, hitting 12 fours and a maximum to hit a sensational maiden Ashes century in just 93 balls, as Australia were left rattled by the opener’s blazing knock.
“I think they’ve (England) got to go really ultra-aggressive. Either way — if they get bowled out, the game has progressed. You don’t want to be left on Sunday night thinking: ‘I wish we...

Manchester, July 20 (Ians) England cricketer Moeen Ali on Thursday entered an exclusive club of men’s Test all-round cricketers, who have the double of 3,000 runs and 200 wickets, on day two of ongoing fourth Ashes 2023 Test at Old Trafford, here.

Moeen had 200 wickets and 2,977 runs in Test cricket before the start of the ongoing Ashes Test at Old Trafford. He crossed 3000 Test runs after hitting back-to-back fours off Australia captain Pat Cummins in the 14th over, as England reached 61-1 at lunch.

London, July 11 (Ians) Former captain Nasser Hussain has expressed his intention to persuade Joe Root to assume the No.3 for England in the ongoing Ashes 2023 series as the hosts face a selection headache when it comes to the spot.
The No. 3 position was filled by Ollie Pope until his Ashes campaign was cut short due to a shoulder injury sustained during the Lord’s Test. In an attempt to find a replacement, the team experimented with Harry Brook in the first innings of the Headingley Test, but the young batter struggled to make an impact.
By the second innings, Brook pushed back down to his usual position at No.5 after England sprung a surprise and sent Moeen Ali in at first drop. However, the decision to promote Moeen didn’t work out as he was dismissed cheaply for five.

London, June 29 (Ians) Australia were dealt with a major injury scare on Thursday when premier off-spinner Nathan Lyon limped off the field while fielding during day two of the second Ashes Test against England at Lord’s.
Lyon, who is playing in his 100th consecutive Test, was running in to take a catch of Ben Duckett off the bowling of Cameron Green in the leg-side after tea, when he pulled up sharply while running towards the ball.
The injury looked so serious that Lyon had to go off the field by taking the support of a member of the Australian team medical staff and shook off in pain while clutching the calf region of his right leg.
A statement from Cricket Australia confirmed Lyon has suffered a right calf injury and would be further assessed after the close of day’s two play. “A further update, if available, will be shared in the morning,...

London, June 29 (Ians) Nasser Hussain, the former captain of England, has strongly criticized Ben Stokes and his teammates, characterizing their performance on the opening day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s as lacking energy and enthusiasm.
Australia enjoyed a strong start to the second Ashes Test as they ended day one on 339/5 at Lord’s with David Warner (66), Travis Head (77) and Steve Smith (85*) all scoring half-centuries as the visitors made merry against England’s seam attack.
In his column for the Daily Mail, Hussain’s pointed out that despite winning the toss and opting to bowl first in cloudy conditions, England displayed an absence of intensity with the ball.
“They were subdued despite winning the toss and there was a real lack of intensity to their bowling attack — the speeds of each of the five seam bowlers was down and they didn’t bowl bouncers to change things...

London, June 28 (Ians) Legendary opener Geoffrey Boycott believes that if England’s motto in the ongoing Ashes is to just entertain the crowds in various stadiums, then they can just well be a circus instead of a cricket team aiming to win a series.

Birmingham, June 21 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain expressed doubts regarding England’s aggressive cricket style, dubbed ‘Bazball,’ and its effectiveness against Australia following the hosts’ loss in the first Test of the highly anticipated Ashes series.

London, June 20 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain lavished praise on pacer Stuart Broad’s commitment after his stunning bowling spell on Day 4 of the first Ashes 2023 Test against Australia.

Birmingham, June 17 (Ians) England’s surprising decision to declare their first innings on 393/8 has brought out a mixed reaction amongst their former players. While Kevin Pietersen didn’t like the adventurous declaration, Nasser Hussain called it a brilliant move.
England stuck to its ultra-attacking and bold approach of playing Test cricket by making a surprise declaration at 393/8 in 78 overs after Joe Root slammed his 30th Test century to be 118 not out on a rousing Ashes opening day at Edgbaston.
Though Pietersen admitted the declaration reflected England’s new approach of playing Test cricket, he was not a fan of the decision citing a flat pitch giving chance to Australia’s batters to score runs in coming days.
“We were talking about the declaration, we were thinking about the declaration, but two or three years ago there would not have even been a hint of a declaration. But with this team,...

Dubai, June 14 (Ians) Former skipper Nasser Hussain has backed England to reclaim the Ashes from Australia as they ride a wave of momentum since Ben Stokes took the reins as captain of the Test team.
England have not won the Ashes since a 3-2 home series victory in 2015, as Australia dominated whenever hosts since then with 4-0 scorelines in both 2017/18 and 2021/22.
Australia also retained the urn when touring England in 2019, as the five-match series was drawn 2-2 after the hosts claimed the last Test at The Oval to level the result.
But England has left opponents amazed in the past year with an exhilarating style of Test cricket, famously referred to as ‘Bazball,’ ever since Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum took charge.
“I can’t see many draws simply because of the way England are playing, they’re trying to take the draw out of the equation,” Hussain told The Icc Review.

London, June 7 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain admitted that off-spin all-rounder Moeen Ali coming out of Test retirement to replace an injured Jack Leach in the Ashes squad for first two matches is a “little bit of kick in the teeth to the other spinners who have been playing in the county cricket” .
Moeen had retired from Test cricket in 2021, scoring 2,914 runs and taking 195 wickets in 64 matches. But he has come out of the red-ball retirement to play in the upcoming Ashes after left-arm spinner Leach was ruled out of the five-match series due to a stress fracture of the lower back.
“In the last couple of years of his Test match career, his average was absolutely fine – he’s a very, very good cricketer. There are worries that he’s not played a lot of first-class cricket. He didn’t even bowl that much in the Ipl – he...

London, June 6 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain feels that India should learn from past mistakes in finalising their playing XI for Icc World Test Championship against Australia if they want to secure the mace, two years after missing out on the inaugural title to New Zealand.
During the first-ever Wtc final, the Black Caps stormed to an eight-wicket triumph in that rain-affected Test in 2021 that stretched into the reserve day, after their four pacers made the most of the overcast conditions to take all 20 India scalps.
While spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin terrorised Australia in their recent Test series on home soil, they had less impact in the Wtc Final two years ago and Hussain believes India will have to carefully consider whether to turn to the pair again this time.

London, June 1 (Ians) Former cricketer Mark Butcher believes England have handed a Test debut to uncapped fast bowler Josh Tongue due to his extra pace, something which was also seen when fellow pacer Matthew Potts was given his first Test cap last year.
Tongue, 25, has impressed for several seasons in domestic competitions for Worcestershire and was part of the England Lions tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. He was included initially in the England Test squad as a cover for James Anderson and Ollie Robinson nursing groin and ankle niggles.
His remarkable Test debut will come after almost retiring from the game due to a nagging nerve issue in his right shoulder, which needed two operations and Botox injections to solve in a 15-month layoff period.
Now, ahead of the one-off match against Ireland at Lord’s on Thursday, Tongue became England’s 711th cricketer in the longest format of the game,...

Dubai, May 31 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has picked only one specialist spinner in the combined Test XI he would select from the two teams set to meet in the World Test Championship final.
Hussain could find room for only one tweaker in a combined Test XI ahead of their rematch in the Icc World Test Championship final in London.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took a combined 47 wickets as India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on home soil, while Australia spinners Nathan Lyon and newcomer Todd Murphy were also a threat with 36 scalps apiece.
Lyon (81) and Ashwin (61) were also among the leading wicket-takers across the Wtc cycle, but only one spinner from the two teams could earn a spot in the former England skipper’s combined Test XI.

Dubai, April 20 (Ians) She may have led the Indian Women’s T20 squad in international matches on and off since 2019 but England captain Heather Knight says Smriti Mandhana found the pressure too much and struggled to manage captaincy during the recently-concluded Women’s Premier League (Wpl).
Mandhana found captaincy “quite tricky” during the Wpl and struggled to manage the hype that came with the role, her Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate Heather Knight has said.
Knight, speaking on the latest 100% Cricket Podcast, suggested the hype surrounding the inaugural edition of the Wpl and the pressure that comes with captaining a high-profile team affected Mandhana, whose side won just twice in eight matches.
Mandhana was charged with leading a side comprising international heavyweights in Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Dane van Niekerk, Megan Schutt and Knight herself, but Rcb still finished fourth out of five teams.

Cape Town, Feb 24 (Ians) India captain Harmanpreet Kaur hit back at the comments made by former England mens skipper Nasser Hussain, who termed her run-out at 52 in the semi-final of Womens T20 World Cup against Australia as a ‘schoolgirl error’.
Harmanpreet, who played the semi-final despite suffering from illness, was leading her side’s charge of chasing down Australia’s 172/4. But a bizarre moment in the 15th over sent Harmanpreet back when her bat got locked while running towards striker’s end, leaving her short of her ground.
It turned out to be the turning point of the match as India could make only 167/8 in their 20 overs, despite a 69-run stand off 41 balls between Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues. The loss meant India fell short of a second successive T20 World Cup final appearance after failing to stop the Australian juggernaut by only five runs.
“He said that? Yes. Okay. I don’t know.

New Delhi, Feb 2 (Ians) Former England captain Michael Atherton was impressed with the immediate impact made by Jofra Archer in his early days of coming back to the international cricket arena during the side’s 59-run win over South Africa in the third Odi at Kimberley.
After captain Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan hit centuries in the match against the Proteas, Archer, playing just his second international match after being on the sidelines due to back and elbow injuries, ran through South Africa’s top and middle order to pick career-best figures of 6-40 in his 9.1 overs and carry England to victory.
“You have the context of him missing the best part of two years with very bad injuries. Elbow and back injuries are very serious for a fast bowler so there must have been some doubt for him over whether he would get back to full pace and full fitness.

Rawalpindi, Dec 5 (Ians) All-rounder Ben Stokes was rewarded for his daring second innings declaration and attacking field placement as England sealed a famous 74-run victory over Pakistan in a thrilling Day Five of the first Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for one of their famous wins.
Racing against time, light and a stubborn Pakistan batting order on the most docile of pitches, England held their nerve as Jack Leach claimed the crucial final wicket by trapping Naseem Shah lbw, clinching one of England’s greatest Test wins.
The 74-run win is England’s third Test victory in Pakistan, with Stokes becoming just the third visiting skipper after Ted Dexter in 1961 and Nasser Hussain in 2000, to win a Test match in Pakistan.
It was all made possible after Stokes’ bold declaration at tea on Day Four on Sunday, which gave Pakistan a stiff target of 343 for an improbable win. But an...

Adelaide, Nov 10 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain slammed India for playing old-fashioned power-play cricket in their deflating ten-wicket loss to the Jos Buttler-led side in the second semi-final of Men’s T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval.
Despite possessing of a formidable batting line-up, India’s constant problem of not getting a flying start in the tournament came back to bite them again when they made just 38/1 in the powerplay, which paled very badly in comparison to 63/0 when Buttler (80 not out) and Alex Hales (86 not out) were at the crease to chase down 168/6 with four overs to spare.
“When you see England in the first six overs there is a glaring error (from India). Hales and Buttler are playing the way they are and India are still playing old-fashioned powerplay cricket,” said Hussain on Sky Sports after the match ended.

Melbourne, Oct 16 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain opined that the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup, starting from Sunday in Australia, will give fans chances to see hard-fought battles between 16 teams apart from some top-drawer performances in 45 matches to be held over the next 28 days.

Ahmedabad, Sep 27 (Ians) Given that rugby in India has taken some giant strides in the the last few years, there will be keen interest in the rugby 7s competition of the 36th National Games which gets underway at the Football Ground TransStadia here on Wednesday morning.
Haryana will be favourites among the men and Bihar among the women given that they were winners in the Rugby 7s Senior National Championships held in Bihar a few months ago. But the other teams in the fray will not exactly be pushovers.

Karachi, Sep 24 (Ians) Apart from Harry Brook and Ben Duckett shining in England’s comfortable 63-run win over Pakistan in third T20I at Karachi, pacer Mark Wood made a brilliant return to international cricket after spending nearly seven months on the sidelines.
Wood, who made his first international appearance since March after recovering from an elbow injury which needed two surgeries, clocked speeds as high as 97mph while claiming impressive figures of 3/24, with his scalps being Pakistan captain Babar Azam, Haider Ali and Haris Rauf.

London, Sep 12 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain wants the England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) to keep James Anderson in their scheme of things when the side travels to Pakistan for a three-Test series early December.
Anderson, the most successful pace bowler in the world with 667 wickets, has played a huge role in England’s series victory against New Zealand, the rescheduled fifth Test against India and the three-Test series against South Africa, which the hosts are poised to win at The Oval on Monday.
Anderson, 40, along with pace compatriot Stuart Broad, was dropped from England’s touring side to the West Indies earlier this year, following a forgettable Ashes tour for Joe Root’s side. Anderson’s career looked shaky but following a change of guard in the Ecb, and with new coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes at the helm, the pace-bowling stalwart was back in the side and doing wonders.

London, Sep 12 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain complimented pace-bowling stalwarts Stuart Broad and James Anderson for their “huge value” to the Test side, adding that the former surpassing legendary Australian quick Glenn McGrath in terms of the number of wickets displayed his “enduring quality and class”.
Broad has surpassed McGrath as the pacer with the second-most wickets in Test cricket history. The 36-year-old Broad surpassed McGrath’s 563 wickets in the longest version of the game on Day Four of the third Test against South Africa, when he dismissed Proteas skipper Dean Elgar, trapping him lbw for 36 at The Oval.
The wicket was Broad’s 564th in Test cricket, surpassing McGrath to become the second-highest wicket-taker amongst pacers in Test cricket history. He now trails his partner Anderson in the wickets column for pacers, who has 666 wickets to his name.

London, Sep 3 (Ians) Former England captain Nasser Hussain has suggested the side should consider including Alex Hales in the squad for the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November.
Hales has not played for England since failing a second recreational drugs test in 2019, resulting in him being left out of the Odi World Cup-winning squad at home and hasn’t played international cricket since then.
Hales, now a most-sought after name in T20 franchise cricket due to his impressive performances, including 251 runs in eight matches for Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2022, had kept him on the radar for a England comeback after nearly three years.
But Friday’s non-selection and then a freak lower-limb injury to Jonny Bairstow meant there is hope for Hales to come back into consideration for England ahead of the T20 World Cup, which Hussain firmly believes in.
“I’ve been very consistent with Alex Hales.

London, Aug 22 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has said that while opener Zak Crawley might be a great player when he is batting well, those “wow occasions” are few and far between, adding that he should be given just one more chance to prove himself.
England Test coach Brendon McCullum has indicated he is likely to keep faith in out-of-form Crawley and play him in the second Test against South Africa at Manchester from August 25, saying one has to think about the “overall package”.
Crawley has been going through a prolonged form slump at the top, with the 24-year-old opener managing just nine and 13 against the Proteas in the opening Test at Lord’s, which England lost by an innings and 12 runs inside three days. The right-hand batter has yet to score a half-century for his country from 10 innings this summer.

London, Aug 15 (Ians) Former England skipper Nasser Hussain believes his country’s Test side are favourites in the three-match home series against South Africa but Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum will have to guard against the tourists’ habit of “unseating England captains in the not too distant past”.
Dean Elgar’s side will take on the Stokes-led England in the opening Test at Lord’s from August 17 and the hosts go into the series as favourites, given they recently clean-swept the three-Test series against New Zealand and defeated India in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston.
“When England take the field against South Africa at Lord’s on Wednesday, their greatest wish will be to continue the momentum built up during four remarkable victories against New Zealand and India. I fancy them to win the series, but it won’t be easy,” opined Hussain in his column for Daily Mail.
