Huascar Aquino
Huascar Aquino was born in 1977 in Nagua, a town on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, and grew up in Guayubin, a small town in the north-eastern region called Monte Cristi. He was a willful child but always kind and happy, and he loved to dance. He grew up working in his father's rice-mill with his big brother, Handel.
As a teenager, he embarked on the study of architecture but left to work, as a chef, in several of the island's major hotels.
In 2006 Huascar moved to the New York City, where he studied pastry arts at the French Culinary Institute while he worked as a pastry chef de partie in several well-reviewed restaurants such as Landmarc and the Four Seasons.
Huascar has appeared on three major television series: Sweet Genius (Food Network, Episode: Serpentine Genius, aired on May 17, 2012); Cupcake Wars (Food Network, Episode: The Honest Company, aired on Sep 7, 2013); and Chopped (Food Network, Episode: Doughnut Dash, aired on June 19, 2018).
He has also been interviewed for several news shows both in English and Spanish. His bakery, Huascar & Company Bakeshop has been reviewed favorably in the New York Times and in other print and online publications.
