Update Saturday: The Winchesters executive producer Jensen Ackles weighed in on the series officially ending after no new network home could be found.
“With a massive Network shift coupled with an industry strike…welp…that’s some unfortunate timing,” he said on Twitter, thanking fans who rallied to try and save the show following its cancellation by the CW.
Previous Friday: The Supernatural franchise is coming to end — at least for now — as The Winchesters has not been able to get a second season anywhere. Producing studio Warner Bros. Television’s efforts to set up the Supernatural prequel series at another network or streaming platform following its cancellation by the CW have been unsuccessful. All possible avenues have been exhausted, and the search for a new home has come to an end, despite a strong #SaveTheWinchesters campaign led by series executive producer (and Supernatural star) Jensen Ackles.

“Looks like we got work to do,” writes The Winchesters executive producer and narrator Jensen Ackles on Twitter Thursday. Ackles has taken to social media in an effort to mobilize Supernatural fans on a campaign to find the canceled Supernatural prequel a new home.
The CW announced The Winchesters cancellation earlier today, along with Kung Fu.
Supernatural alum Ackles reprised his role as Dean in the CW series and served as executive producer.
Knowing cancellation was likely coming, The Winchesters studio Warner Bros. Television has been preparing to look for a new home, and plans to be aggressive in its efforts, we hear.

The CW has opted not to pick up a second season of The Winchesters. The news is not surprising; the Supernatural prequel was among the long-shot renewal prospects at the network under its new ownership as it focuses on unscripted and lower-cost scripted programming (primarily international acquisitions/co-productions) in pursuit of profitability.
So far, only the CW’s strongest existing scripted series, All American and Walker, have been renewed for next season. The three least likely, The Winchesters, Kung Fu and Walker Independence, have been canceled. Remaining in limbo are Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming, which are believed to have the best chance (however small it may be), followed by Gotham Knights.

It’s all change at The CW after the youth-skewing broadcaster unveiled its fall 2022/23 schedule.
It will be a transitional year for the network, which downsized the number of original series that airs, and this is reflected in its schedule.
The big headlines include the final season of Riverdale is moving to midseason along with its Tuesday night sibling The Flash and will be replaced by new series Supernatural prequel The Winchesters and international acquisition Professionals. Nancy Drew is also moving out of the fall, where it has aired on Friday nights, also shifting to midseason.
The third season of Stargirl will move out of the summer and will be placed on Wednesdays in the fall alongside Kung Fu, which had previously aired in midseason.
Franchise nights include a double header all All American and its All American: Homecoming spinoff on Mondays and Walker and spinoff Walker Independence on Thursdays.

Season 3, Episode 17, “The Jolly Roger”
Written by David H. Goodman
Directed by Ernest Dickerson
Airs Sundays at 8pm Est on ABC
The first half of season three of Once Upon a Time was very shaky. Most of it left us agitated, frustrated, and downright bored. However after the very long hiatus, the writers came back rejuvenated and fighting fresh and the first handful of episodes back have been packed with the magic that Once featured in its first season. Episodes 16 and 17 are no different. Both of them have us biting our fingers in suspense and laughing out loud.
In “It’s Not Easy Being Green” we are finally treated to a backstory for Zelena. The episode gives great in-depth detail about Zelena, showing why is the way she is.

This Sunday, Once Upon a Time airs its midseason premiere. I got a chance to preview it and … it is truly terrific. Even for people who would never consider themselves “Oncers.” This episode takes a quality leap forward in almost every way.
It’s the best episode since Season 1′s “Hat Trick,” my favorite, and in fact for entirely different reasons it is equally as good. It moves along at quite a clip, with more twists and turns than I’ve ever seen on the show. It’s entertaining, well-written, engaging, jam-packed, and fun. Almost everyone brought their “A” game (I’m looking at you, Snow’s wig maker and costume designer).
This is the one to check out for anyone who’s considered watching Once but never got around to it, and in fact I recommend it to those of you who’ve watched an episode here and there but never really got it.

Once Upon A Time, Season 3, Episode 8: “Think Lovely Thoughts”
Written by David H. Goodman & Robert Hull
Directed by David Solomon
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
Once Upon a Time continues to pick up steam with this week’s “Think Lovely Thoughts”. It has suspense, drama, and a little comedy, all things that caused us to fall in love with Once back in the very beginning. “Think Lovely Thoughts” definitely maneuvers its way into the Once Hall of Fame and the writers prove to us, once again, that they still have some dandy little tricks up their sleeves.
The episode’s main focus is on saving Henry. We are also graced with another welcome glimpse into Rumplestiltskin’s past life. This story demonstrates that the writers are still very capable of creating magical episodes like those from the first season. This week they spend extra time crafting and molding Rumple’s childhood story.

Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
This week Once Upon a Time pulls us in with a punch, literally. Neal breaks away from the lost boy that kidnapped him and the storyline dives right in. We find out quickly that the backstory this week will be about Rumple and Bae’s time in the Enchanted Forest.
Unlike the previous episode, this week’s Once holds to the usual structure, with one backstory and two present day storylines. Interestingly, within the first ten minutes the writers find a convenient way to take Tinkerbell out of the picture. This is just sad- Rose McIver is a welcome addition to the group and this takes away hope (for now) that we’ll delve further into Tinkerbell’s past and current development.

Once Upon A Time, Season 2, Episode 15: “The Queen is Dead” Written by Daniel T. Thomsen & David H. Goodman Directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC - Drama? Check. Action? Check. Nail-biting suspense? Double check. Once Upon a Time is back after a one week hiatus. It’s strapping us in tight and not holding anything back. The episode brings us to past Enchanted Forest where we are introduced, for the first time, to Snow White’s mother. Another great casting choice by the creators Rena Sofer looks and plays the part of Snow’s mother perfectly. Making us actually believe that she could be Bailee Madison or Ginnifer Goodwin’s mother. The episode mostly focuses on events in Storybrooke and things taking place in New York City with Emma, Henry, Rumplestiltskin and Baelfire. The writers take us on a different journey with this episode, than the last.

Once Upon a Time, Season 2, Episode 10: “The Cricket Game”
Written by David H. Goodman & Robert Hull
Directed by Dean White
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
Storybrooke just had a little bit more evil ride into town, or should we say sail in to town? Cora and Hook have finally docked and their vengeance is about to take place. Hook is ready to go skin himself a crocodile when Cora stops him to inform him that magic just happens to be back in Storybrooke and she should let him take care of it. Cue the opening credits and the episode is off with a quick start.
We next find Charming and Snow, uhm, rekindling their romance, so to speak, providing us with a very interesting, and somewhat hilarious, reaction from Emma (who walks in on them). “It’s impressive that we can still provide her with a few...

Once Upon A Time, Season 2, Episode 4: “The Crocodile”
Written by David H. Goodman & Robert Hull
Directed by David Solomon
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
A sentimental interaction between Belle and Rumplestiltskin is how the fourth episode of Once Upon a Time kicks off. We quickly find out that the scene is just a nightmare of Belle’s. When she goes to find Rumplestiltskin, however, we discover that he is in the basement, still experimenting with magic. Cue the opening credit scene and now the episode’s engine has started and is racing towards the finish line.
Robert Carlyle finally gets a full episode to shine this season (and not just in the glittery skin that Rumplestiltskin possesses in the past world). We have gotten to see bits and pieces of Carlyle throughout the first three episodes, but nothing like this. He takes every scene that he is in and commands it.

This penultimate entry builds for a jam-packed finale by gathering all the characters together in both worlds. Meanwhile, Regina scrambles to rid Emma of Henry’s life for good by using a reliable solution. The story of Rumpelstiltskin once again takes center stage tonight on Once Upon a Time and writer Jane Espenson couldn’t have been happier to step up to the plate for the important episode.
“This is a character who has his memories and yet the form of menace that emanates out of him as Mr. Gold is do different, so contained and snake-y as opposed to the broad, theatrical nature of Rumpelstiltskin,” she says. “I’m perpetually fascinated. I feel like we could just keep peeling back the layers of this forever and ever.” Tonight, viewers will get a fuller...

Once Upon A Time, Season 1, Episode 17: “Hat Trick”
Written by Vladimir Cvetko & David H. Goodman
Directed by Ralph Hemecker
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
“Hat Trick” is a bittersweet episode. On the surface, this week brings us a well-crafted adventure story and, for a casual fan, another entertaining entry in the show’s canon. Upon further inspection, the episode is just another routine origin story wrapped in a shiny package. Either way, it still proves to be a fun hour.
In Storybrooke, Emma discovers Mary Margaret’s fugitive status and sets out to find her to bring her in for the arraignment. While searching, Emma comes across a man on the side of the road who proves to be an episode’s worth of trouble. He is the Hatter from the Lewis Carrol Wonderland books. In the Echanted Forest, the Hatter (known as Jefferson) struggles to take care of his daughter.

Directed by Dean White
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
There are no huge surprises this week as Once Upon A Time settles into soap opera territory with “What Happened To Frederick,” another episode exploring the strained relationship between Mary Margaret and David. The low-key episode also spends a lot of time with David’s pre-coma companion, Kathryn, aka King Midas’s daughter, Abigail, in the Enchanted Forest.
In Storybrooke, Kathryn gains admission to a law school in Boston, thinking David will join her in a fresh start. When David refuses to go with her, he also fails to mention his affair with Mary Margaret, resulting in a public scandal that turns ugly for all parties.
In the Enchanted Forest, Abigail finds a runaway Prince Charming and enlists his help to save her own true love,...

Written by David H. Goodman & Liz Tigelaar
Directed by Dean White
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
This week’s episode “True North,” introduces yet another set of characters whose story breaks a bit from the main conflict. Fortunately, their story eventually incorporates into main mystery of Storybrooke as a prison, which the show is still developing at a reasonable pace.
While in Mr. Clark’s (Sneezy’s) general store, Henry meets Ava and her twin brother Nicholas, who he soon learns are orphans struggling to survive without parents. As Emma takes it upon herself to find their father, Regina does her best to have the kids shipped to separate foster homes in Boston. In the fairy tale world, the children are revealed to be Hansel and Gretel.
When Hansel and Gretel lose their father in the forest, the Evil Queen intercepts them.

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 1, Episode 9 of ABC's "Once Upon a Time," entitled "True North."
While "Once Upon a Time" is fast becoming known for its original twists on classic fairytales, the fantasy show generally erred on the side of tradition when it came to tackling Hansel and Gretel in this week's episode. Sure, the blind witch (played by "Buffy" alum Emma Caulfield) was more of a looker than we might remember, but the oven and the gingerbread house were picture perfect ... after all, why tamper with the classics?
Still, all roads lead back to The Evil Queen (henceforth known as "Teq") in Fairytale Land, and in this week's story, she was the one who sent the twins into the sticky lair of her cannibalistic rival, all to retrieve an infamous red apple. I must admit, I love the idea of warring witches who...

Comic-Con is over, and though we all couldn't make it, we can all get plenty of tastes of the excitement. Fox was out in full force at the event, and several shows were there chatting up fans, including some newcomers to the fall schedule.
Glee didn't quite have the A-List in attendance, and Terra Nova took over with the trailer of all solar-powered zaniness, but overall, fans appear to have had a great time no matter what show they were most interested in.
Fringe was a hit, with all the stars showing up, and much talk about Joshua Jackson, and shows like Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite had the right names to be instant hits at the Con, even if the potential for the shows is still up in the air.
At any rate, I have a round-up for you of clips and images, just to give you a taste of what went on,...

Finally, the north of England has a Comic Con of its very own, and next weekend (July 30th) sees the inaugural McM Expo event at Manchester Central, with a veritable smorgasbord of geek-tastic content and appearances. The broadly-appealing event will include participation by major games publishers, leading film studios, top comic artists and sport stars, sci-fi collectables and prestigious cosplay competitions. There’s no indication as of yet as to what film-fans might get to see (aside from the special guests below), but with representation from Universal, Warner Bros, SyFy and 20th Century Fox, as well as anime distributors Mvm Entertainment, there’s bound to be enough to tantalise and entertain all tastes.
Guests so far announced offer a mix from British sci-fi, with Craig Charles of Red Dwarf and Warwick Davis (Star Wars, Willow, Harry Potter) representing the biggest names on board.

Updated, 1/7: Each year, the five broadcast networks develop hundreds of scripted dramas and comedies in hopes they’ll become the next NCIS and Desperate Housewives, or the latest Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. And like every year, a great deal of them are not worth mentioning here — mostly because they involve the bland types of cops, lawyers, and doctors who you’ve already seen fighting crime or sneaking a kiss on the way to the ER.
But fascinating projects continue to pass the first smell test at the broadcast networks. The key is whether the suits take...
