Sylvester Stallone has three daughters who’ve been involved in the entertainment industry in some capacity. Stallone would help one of his daughters, Sistine, audition for her movies personally. But soon Sistine’s manager explained why that might’ve done more harm than good.
Sylvester Stallone’s voice was too distinct for Sistine Stallone to audition with Sistine Stallone | Theo Wargo/Getty Images
Stallone’s daughter Sistine would find herself following in her father’s footsteps. Sistine didn’t believe herself to be a natural at acting, as she was convinced it wasn’t an ability that could simply be learned.
“I still think acting is something that you’re born with and I think the greatest actors today, they don’t need training, it comes naturally to them. It’s like being a naturally good singer….I don’t think that’s me at all,” Sistine told Variety not too long ago.

The horror genre is generally best known for its monsters, ghosts, ghouls, zombies and other weird and wonderful supernatural creatures. Which is great, because we love it all the more for those classic staples. However, some of the most effective horror movies do not rely upon those things, and as playfully gross as they are, they live in the realm of fantasy, so audiences can generally dissociate them from the real world. So, when a horror movie begins and you see the words ‘based upon a true story’, it makes the terror that follows, all the more serious and intense. If you’re one of those people who’s scared easily by horror movies, you can comfort yourself by saying, ‘well, it’s only a movie’, but if you know that what you’re watching actually occurred, then it’s harder to escape from. The genre has many examples of...

At Screen Gems, Brucks replaces Steve Bersch, who will leave the label when his contract ends in December. Steven Spielberg’s Jaws left an indelible mark on cinema upon release in 1975, ushering in the summer blockbuster as we know it. Like its many taglines, Jaws also made people afraid to go into the water thanks to a newfound fear of man-eating sharks. And the film’s massive box office success created a tsunami of copycats, launching the “sharksploitation” subgenre.
But emulating Jaws only goes so far, and the subgenre has been forced to constantly find inventive new ways to reimagine the shark horror movie. One surefire but cheeky way to stand out from an increasingly crowded subgenre is to add novelty to the concept, often by altering the setting. If people are too afraid to go into the water, the shark should go to the people.
Luckily, there’s no shortage of weird, wacky settings that dramatically alter the formula…

Last week, we told you about the rumoured Resident Evil film that’s currently in development, code-named “The Umbrella Chronicles.” Now, it appears that more info has surfaced on the project, which depending on the source, will either be based on the 2007 Wii title Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, or 2002’s Resident Evil 0.
According to the website Production Weekly, the synopsis for “Umbrella Chronicles” is essentially the same as the game’s Wikipedia page. A Twitter user by the name The White Queen was able to provide a copy of the synopsis, which is laid out as follows…
“[The Umbrella Chronicles] follows Stars operative Rebecca Chambers and former Marine Billy Coen as they venture through a train that eventually takes them to a derelict training facility. Once within the facility, they discover they are being stalked by James Marcus, co-founder of the Umbrella Corporation and creator of the T-virus, who has managed to...

Last summer, a TV series based on the Resident Evil video game franchise made its debut on the Netflix streaming service – and was quickly cancelled. That show was an entirely separate project from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, the feature film that was released at the end of 2021… and it looks like Welcome to Raccoon City was the more successful of the two projects, because it might actually be getting a follow-up! That movie came to us from Raccoon Hg Film Productions and was filmed in Greater Sudbury, a city in Ontario, Canada. Sudbury.com reports that a mysterious movie called Umbrella Chronicles, which is backed by Raccoon Hg Film Productions, is receiving $2 million in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to film in the Greater Sudbury area. Since this movie is coming from the same production company as Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, is going...

Despite the mixed reactions and a lackluster box office reaction to last year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Sony is apparently forging ahead with another film. Sudbury.com has let slip that the city has received funding for a new film project called “The Umbrella Chronicles”.
The city, which was one of the filming locations for Welcome to Raccoon City, will be receiving $2 million Cad from the provincial government for the project, which is being developed by Raccoon Hg Film Productions. That same production company was behind the 2021 movie.
Sony has not officially announced a sequel to the Johannes Roberts-directed film, but given that the credits hinted at a sequel, things are looking like it’s in the works. After all, it would appear that this sequel is taking its name from the 2007 on-rails shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

While you wait for V/H/S/85 later this year, V/H/S/99 has hit Blu-ray and DVD. Among the extras for the fifth installment in the found footage horror franchise is an audio commentary moderated by Bloody Disgusting’s own The Boo Crew Podcast hosts Trevor Shand and Leone D’Antonio.
All six filmmakers participate for their respective segments: Maggie Levin for “Shredding,” Johannes Roberts for “Suicide Bid,” Flying Lotus for “Ozzy’s Dungeon,” Tyler MacIntyre for “The Gawkers,” and Vanessa & Joseph Winter for “To Hell and Back.”
Here are seven things I learned from the V/H/S/99 commentary…
1. The film almost didn’t have a wraparound story.
Wraparound segments are traditionally used to make an anthology feel of one piece rather than a random collection of shorts, but the producers originally intended to forgo the framing device on V/H/S/99.
It was later decided to use the increasingly ambitious stop-motion...

Released through the Shudder streaming service last October, the horror anthology film V/H/S/99 quickly became the most-watched film in the history of Shudder. It’s a good thing they already greenlit another sequel – V/H/S/85 – for this year. But while we wait to see how V/H/S/85 is going to turn out, Rlje Films has given V/H/S/99 a Blu-ray, DVD, and steelbook release – and copies can be purchased at This Link.
The story segments that make up V/H/S/99 were directed by Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls), and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream). Here’s the synopsis: V/H/S/99 harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS, while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium. In V/H/S/99, a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.
Josh Goldbloom produced V/H/S/99 for Cinepocalypse.

Director Johannes Roberts’ shark thriller 47 Meters Down was almost a straight-to-video release, but when it went theatrical instead it turned out to be a surprise hit, pulling in over 62 million at the global box office. So Roberts made a sequel, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, which earned almost 47 million worldwide. And now Deadline reports that Roberts is set to direct another shark thriller… but this one isn’t another 47 Meters Down sequel. The next shark movie we’ll be getting from Roberts is called The Red Triangle.
Described as a “big-budget theatrical feature” from Allen Media Group Motion Pictures, The Red Triangle will be set in Northern California — famous for its gorgeous beaches, but also known for a particular stretch of ocean that has a bloody reputation — The Red Triangle. Johannes Roberts is heading back into shark-infested waters with The Red Triangle, a brand new movie announced by Deadline today.
Deadline details, “[The] big-budget theatrical feature is set in Northern California — famous for its gorgeous beaches, but also known for a particular stretch of ocean that has a bloody reputation — The Red Triangle. Stretching south from Bodega Bay toward San Francisco and jutting out beyond the Farallon Islands and down to Big Sur south of Monterey, the Triangle encompasses around 200 miles of coastline, and is the site of almost half of all recorded great white shark attacks in the United States.”
In the film, “When a cruise ship — a massive, floating, fully stocked resort with thousands of passengers — begins to sink in The Red Triangle, the feeding frenzy begins.”
For Allen Media Group Motion Pictures, Johannes Roberts will direct from his own script, with Tea Shop Productions’ James Harris and Mark Lane producing.

Part of the reason why "The Strangers" has endured as an effective horror movie is that we've all had that feeling of being home alone at night, yet it still feels like there's something else watching us from the shadows. After 85 minutes of homebound terror, the words "because you were home" make all of the preceding violence sound so hauntingly meaningless. A couple on the rocks is thrust into a harrowing night of survival for no other reason besides that their lights were on.
It wasn't until a decade later that a sequel came to theaters with "The Strangers: Prey at Night," which /Film's Chris Evangelista called a "schlocky slasher showcase." Rather than rehashing the hopelessness of Bryan Bertino's 2008 home invasion thriller, the follow-up from Johannes Roberts saw the human prey actually landing a few blows in against their stalkers, and living to see another day. I truly believe...

Produced by Bloody Disgusting, the hit found footage horror franchise is back with V/H/S/99, and the latest installment in the saga is Now Streaming exclusively on Shudder!
The latest installment in the franchise began streaming on October 20, and we’re happy report that V/H/S/99 has just broken a massive streaming record for Shudder.

Through its first four days of release, the film registered 28 more unique viewers than the previous record holder, V/H/S/94, which premiered on Shudder in 2021. History repeats itself. When the Shudder streaming service revived the V/H/S/ found footage horror franchise with V/H/S/94 last year, it really paid off for them. V/H/S/94 set viewership records and became the service’s biggest movie premiere ever. That’s why we got V/H/S/99 this year. And Shudder has a hit on their hands again.
Shudder sent out a press release to let us know V/H/S/99 “debuted to record numbers in its opening weekend. Through its first four days of release, the film registered 28 more unique viewers than the previous record holder, V/H/S/94, which premiered on Shudder in 2021. It’s a good thing they already greenlit another sequel – V/H/S/85 – for next year.

Jade Pettyjohn, whose credits include the Nicole Kidman film Destroyer, Deadwood: The Movie, and the TV shows School of Rock and Big Sky, seems to have made it a goal to become a scream queen in 2022. Every few weeks, we seem to hear that she has signed on to play a role in another genre project. Back in April it was the supernatural thriller Burnouts. In September, it was the Seven Deadly Sins horror film All My Friends Are Dead. And now Deadline reports that Pettyjohn will star in The Not Polly, the next horror movie from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City director Johannes Roberts.
Producer and music industry executive Yasushi Akimoto crafted the story for The Not Polly, in which Pettyjohn will be playing Polly, the most popular and most beautiful girl in school, who wakes up after a party to find that she is trapped in a morgue,...

During the 31 days of Halloween, Shudder has a spooky lineup of frights for any horror fan and we recommend two movies for these chilly October nights.
Following the success of last year’s hit V/H/S/94 comes this year’s V/H/S/99.
V/H/S/99, which debuted at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, premiered on Shudder on Thursday, October 20. The film features five new stories from filmmakers Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts, Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls) and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream).
V/H/S/99 harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS, while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium.

V/H/S/94 debuted to rave reviews from film critics, with The New York Times calling the film “a grisly, gory gem,” and a 90 certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. V/H/S/94 was the biggest movie premiere in Shudder history, setting a...

Whether they're seasoned filmmakers or voices on the rise, the "V/H/S" series has been a great den for all sorts of talent to try their hand at a miniature horror story. Horror anthologies have been going strong for decades, but it really wasn't until 2012's "V/H/S" where the concept was crafted to fit the mold for found footage. Since then, the series has ushered in five feature films.
The most recent entry in this series, "V/H/S/99" features another fun list of names, but the entry that stands out is "Suicide Bid," which happens to be come to us from director Johannes Roberts.
Roberts is a name that may not immediately stand out, but he's been making a name for himself in the world of horror. I don't share much love for "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City," but at the same time, I consider "The Strangers: Prey At Night," one...

There’s a certain charm to the V/H/S franchise that I have never quite been able to put my finger on… until now. It’s that retro-style feel blended with the chilling horror elements that culminates in it feeling like both a warm hug and a rush of blood at the same time.
Are all of the movies in the franchise good? Certainly not. I’d argue that the first film is honestly the only truly great one… until now. V/H/S/99 is not only easily the best in the series since the first, but it’s also a legitimately chilling found footage horror anthology that comes...
