When the X-Men debuted in the pages of Marvel Comics back in 1963, their superhero costumes looked a little more like school uniforms. The team at the time was made up of the characters Cyclops, Ice Man, Beast, Marvel Girl, and Angel, and they all wore a notable yellow-and-blue ensemble with hoods to partially cover their faces. "The Uncanny X-Men" also allowed creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to skip over the bothersome task of having to invent a superhero origin story. Rather than a tale of cosmic rays, gamma radiation, spider-bites, or some other powers-granting conceit, the X-Men were merely born with their abilities. They are mutants.
When the X-Men universe expanded to include more and more characters, the blue-and-yellow ensembles gave way to a wide variety of outlandish costumes, each one adhering to the styles of the day. Those who read X-Men comics in the 1990s, for instance,...

The 90′s are synonymous with two things in comics history. The birth of the superstar artist and the crash of the comic market. Are the two related? The polite answer is possibly. But there were many factors that contributed to the crash. Between 1993 and 1997 the comics industry hit an all time low, a low it only recovered from towards the end of the 00′s. Because of the crash a lot of comic book fans look on the 90′s with disdain. But for every fan that hates it there are two who look back at that time with such fondness.

The Venom movie ends with two teasers. One is extremely obvious if you know anything about the character. The other is a little unexpected.
This article contains major Venom spoilers. You have been warned.
So the Venom movie came out. Crazy, huh? Love it or hate it, at least it isn’t dull. Through the movie, we got to see the origin story of Eddie Brock and his alien comrade as they put an end to a corrupt pharmaceutical space program and saved the world from an alien invasion. By the end, things are looking up for Eddie and he even alludes to having a major interview on the horizon.
After the movie ends with promise that this buddy cop movie will continue, we get some Eminem rapping, a mid-credits scene, a lot of credits, then a post-credits scene for something very different.

As we look back at what came before ‘Iron Man,’ we marvel at the miracle that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Earlier this week, the Fsr team brainstormed the plot of Avengers 4 based on the idea that its mysterious subtitle was a potential spoiler for the still unseen Avengers: Infinity War. It was a fun exercise that briefly allowed me to nerd out over a few spandex epics penned by personal favorites, Brian Michael Bendis and Jonathan Hickman. The resulting conversation spawned some excitement, and a good heap of cynicism as well…or better yet, apathy. How much further can the Marvel Cinematic Universe expand? Will Thanos ever sit up from his chair, and prove he’s the big bad Mad Titan comic book fanboys claim him to be? Next week, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will mark the 15th entry in Marvel’s unprecedented shared universe machine, and by the time we get to Avengers...

Kurt Busiek is probably one of the biggest name in American comics. He started off doing freelance work for both DC and Marvel on titles like Iron Man, Avengers, and The Untold Tales of Spider-Man. In 1993, Busiek joined with superstar artist Alex Ross co-created the classic Marvels mini-series that showed the major events of the Marvel Universe from the perspective of photojournalist Phil Sheldon. From there, he created the long-running, award-winning Astro City series. Kurt Busiek is most notable for his humane approach to superheroes, making characters feel relatable despite their fantastical powers. In November 2014, Busiek teamed up rising art star Benjamin Dewey for The Autumnlands, a futuristic fantasy series about a world ruled by magic-using animal people that summon a human super soldier from the past to save the disappearing magic. However get more than they were bargaining for. The series is published by Image comics, and after a...

Erik Larsen has completed his Savage Dragon film script.
The Image Comics founder has announced that he is moving ahead with the adaptation of his long-running series.
"As of 2:06 this morning a Savage Dragon screenplay exists. Wish me luck!" Larsen wrote on Facebook. "And, yes, I wrote it."
Savage Dragon debuted in 1982, and became the star of an ongoing series following the launch of Image in the early '90s.
"As far as actors go, I'd rather get a guy with decent acting chops than try to find somebody built like Dragon," continued Larsen. "Savage Dragon Needs to be constructed. No human being has fists the size of loafs of bread.
"He can't just be a normal muscle man and normal muscle men don't have the comedic timing and acting chops needed to pull off the part.
"I would think Dragon could be mostly real - with CG arms and chest.

The 90′s was an interesting time for comics. Artists were treasured over writers and the artists that were the most successful were those that had a splashy larger than life style. Very often that style put a greater importance on what looked cool rather than fundamentals such as anatomy and and scale. In 1992 six of these rock star artists left Marvel to found their own publishing company Image. Most of these artists decided in addition to drawing they would also write their comic’s as well. The result was some beautiful looking books that were poorly plotted and abysmally written. Sure, there were some definite successes, Todd McFarlane hit a home run with Spawn and Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon was popular as well. The rest though...
