In a joint statement, the companies the move was “due to the new Covid-19 measures in Ireland and the ongoing challenges surrounding the current UK cinema landscape”.

Amazon Studios and UK network Channel 4 are reuniting on a new comedy from Sharon Horgan’s Merman. The U.S. streamer and the British public service broadcaster have ordered Frank of Ireland, a comedy series starring and written by brothers Brian and Domhnall Gleeson.

Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder’s Cornerstone Films has signed several deals for Herself, the female-led drama directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
Deals have been confirmed for Spain (Youplanet Caramel), Italy (Bim), Japan (Longride), Portugal (Lusomundo), Israel (Forum), and the Middle East (Italia).

Ireland’s Galway Film Fleadh launched its 25th edition last night (July 9) with a screening of Spanish-Irish co-production Tasting Menu [pictured].
Director Roger Gual and star Fionnula Flanagan attended the screening at Galway’s Town Hall Theatre and joined guests afterwards for an opening night party at the Galway Rowing Club. Tasting Menu is produced by Zentropa Spain and Ireland’s Subotica.
The Fleadh runs until July 14, with guests set to include Zachary Quinto, screenwriter Daniel Waters and Julien Temple, who will all take part in masterclasses. Saoirse Ronan will also attend the festival, while Hubbard Casting will deliver a casting workshop.

President of Ireland Michael D Higgins will also attend the Fleadh to present Ronan and James Morris, former Irish Film Board chair and founding member and CEO of Windmill Lane Pictures, with Galway Hookers, the festival’s highest accolade.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has acquired U.S. and Canada rights, along with select international territories, on Crooked House, the Neil Labute-directed adaptation of the Agatha Christie’s murder mystery novel that is being made by Ealing Metro International. Script is by Gosford Park and Downton Abbey scribe Julian Fellowes, Tim Rose Price and Labute. “It’s been far too long since we’ve seen Agatha Christie’s work on the big screen,” Labute said. “Crooked House is one of her best and most surprising murder mysteries. It’s the perfect title with which to bring a whole new audience to Christie, while at the same time delivering a wonderfully suspenseful experience to her legions of existing fans.” Shooting will start in the fall in London, with Brilliant Films’ Joe Abrams and Rory Gilmartin producing with Marc Samuelson of Samuelson Productions.

CANNES -- Jonas Akerlund has signed on to direct the thriller "Birdman" for Jeremy Bolt and Paul WS Anderson's Impact Pictures and Germany's Constantin Film, the two companies said Friday. "Birdman" will be the Swedish-born Akerlund's ("Spun") next project, with shooting planned for first quarter next year in Los Angeles. "Akerlund is one of few true visionary (directors) around," said Impact Pictures' Rory Gilmartin, speaking from Impact headquarters in London. " 'Spun' may not have been a commercial blockbuster, but it definitely showed he has a vision and incredible creative energy, and that's what we wanted for this film." "Birdman" is a dark thriller based on the novel of the same name by Mo Hayder. Screenwriter Robert Murphy is adapting the book. Casting is under way.
