Is There Anybody Out There? from Brighton-based director Ella Glendining is a self-professed love letter to the disabled community and anyone who has ever felt other. It is a formidable debut feature by a filmmaker who has refused to allow society’s expectations or prejudices about her disability to stand in her way, instead using her tenacity to build a career in a notoriously difficult and ableist industry. Feeling that she was at the right moment in her career and wanting to build upon a lifelong gnawing desire to find someone with her same rare disability, Glendining, with the support of the BFI Doc Society, embarked upon an emotional four year journey to tell her story. In it she begins to conduct a search for other people with the same rare condition as herself, which means she has no hip bones and shortened femurs. Anchor Bay on board to release urban drama, starring Skins actress Jessica Sula, in the UK.
Urban drama Honeytrap, directed by former Screen Star of Tomorrow Rebecca Johnson, has begun its four-week shoot in London.
It has been pre-sold to Anchor Bay for the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Set in Brixton and inspired by true events, the film is seen from a teenage girl’s point-of-view. It tells the story of 15-year-old Layla, who gets sucked into gang activity and sets up the boy who’s in love with her to be killed. Jessica Sula (Skins) stars as Layla alongside Lucien Leon Laviscount (Waterloo Road), Ntonga Mwanza (Leave to Remain) and Naomi Ryan (Doctor Who).
Johnson, is collaborating with fellow Screen Star of Tomorrow and director of photography Annemarie Lean-Vercoe.
