The Money Heist(La Casa de Papel) gang might’ve pulled off their heist at last, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the story. The series’ spin-off — by Money Heist creator Álex Pina and his Sky Rojo collaborator, Esther Martínez Lobato — is centered around the character Berlin (Pedro Alonso), long before he finds out about his terminal diagnosis and takes the Royal Mint of Spain hostage. Starring Alonso, Julio Peña, and Begoña Vargas, Berlin follows the titular character as he attempts one of his most extraordinary heists yet.
“It’s a trip through the golden age of the character, when he robbed around Europe crazy in love,” Pina told Netflix.

Buoyed with Paco Plaza’s “Sister Death” riding high in Netflix non-English film global rankings for a second week running, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Madrid-based El Estudio has named seasoned Spanish showrunner Tirso Calero, creator and script co-ordinator on “Servir y Proteger,” “Bandolera” and “L’Alqueria Blanca,” as TV contents director in Spain. He is based out of Madrid. His incorporation coincides with the creation of a TV division at El Estudio, which Calero will head up.
Taking effect from last week, the appointment makes large strategic sense. El Estudio founders and chiefs Enrique López Lavigne and Pablo Cruz are among the top and most cosmopolitan film producers in the Spanish-speaking world, Cruz ranking as Mexico’s best-known arthouse/crossover movie honcho and a driving force behind modern-day Mexican cinema when heading up Canana; and López Lavigne rating as one of Spain’s most innovative producers, seen most recently in...

Set and shot north of Barcelona in Manresa, “You Would Do It Too,” from David Victori, is a lightning-fast eight-part half-hour thriller following a bus heist gone awry. Written and directed by Victori, it is also the first Spanish production resulting from an alliance struck between Legendary Television and Spain’s Espotlight Media.

Sky Rojo is a thriller series created by Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato starring Verónica Sánchez, Lali Espósito and Yany Prado.
Sky Rojo re-does itslef in this third, last and almost melancholic season in a story that wishes to be redone as it finishes and manages to do so with the force and personality of a series which you will either love or hate precisely because of its force, provocation and characters at their edgiest.
Sky Rojo is an attractive combination of a thriller that is full of thugs and a road movie, also tough about some girls who escape from a bordello and leave behind an endless series of bodies, persecutions and situations that are embarrassing, hot, romantic and mad… a combination that has delighted many and, because of its humor which sometimes crosses a line between correctness, has not become popular with the more “family style” audience.

The news was unveiled by Verónica Fernández, Director of Series for Spain and Portugal at an event to mark the expansion of the streamer’s production hub in Tres Cantos, Madrid.
Netflix has been available in Spain since 2015. The streamer’s Tres Cantos campus opened in 2019 and has since doubled its stage capacity and now features ten sets and a multi-purpose space that includes the company’s first in-house post-production facility.

Netflix’s shake-up of its European operations — which saw the Sept. 29 exit of International Film VP David Kosse, a new role for Spanish executive Teresa Moneo and a new regionalized hub for all content across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea) run by Larry Tanz — points to a broader strategic shift at the streaming giant toward faster-growing international markets to make up for domestic subscriber losses.

Seismic shifts in the world’s entertainment industry have thrown a global spotlight on Spain’s film and TV industry as never before.
Foreign productions are flocking to Spain, spending €263 million (266 million) in 2021, double the 2016-19 average, according to a ProFilm study. International inward investment in national productions has also grown on an unprecedented scale.
All the big streamers have beached in Spain. Reed Hastings cut the tape on Netflix’s first European Production Hub, in Madrid’s Tres Cantos, in 2019. Viacom Intl. Studios (Vis) Emea and Asia and AMC Networks Intl. Southern Europe have set up production operations in Spain. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is a mostly faithful adaptation of Álex Pina’s crime drama La Casa de Papel — you may know it as Money Heist, which aired from 2017 to 2021 and went from semi-successful Spanish TV series to global Netflix phenomenon. Once again, a bespectacled and somewhat squirrelly braniac named “the Professor” (Oldboy‘s Yoo Ji-tae) gathers together a motley crew of criminals and masterminds a heist at a national mint. This isn’t stealing from people, he explains, since they’re going to print new money and redistribute that wealth to,...

Half a year ago, one of Netflix’s largest international series — Spain’s “La Casa De Papel” — wrapped its fifth and final season in a blaze of agonizing glory. Now, fans who are missing out on thrills, red jumpsuits and masks galore can rejoice in the streamer’s Korean remake, “Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area,” which debuted a main teaser unraveling a bit of the fan-favorite robbers’ motives.
The trailer traces the origins of the Joint Economic Area, a fictionalized mint located where present-day North and South Korea are divided. While the aim of reunification is to benefit all citizens and establish a common currency, “in reality, only the rich got richer,” the trailer’s narrator says.
“Welcome to capitalism,” Tokyo (Jeon Jong-seo) grimly adds.

Netflix is in early-stage conversations with The Crown producer Left Bank over a prequel to the smash hit royal drama.
The show’s penultimate season will launch later this year, introducing a slew of new actors and characters such as Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and sources confirmed a potential prequel is in discussion.
Any prequel would likely cover the pre-World War Two era or late Victorian era when Queen Victoria reigned. She was the UK’s longest-serving monarch until Queen Elizabeth took that record several years ago.
Deadline understands conversations over the prequel are in their early stages and it is not yet in development nor near greenlight stage.
Peter Morgan’s series, which will run for six seasons before concluding, has arguably been the UK’s biggest Netflix hit, costing around £100M (130M) per six-part run and featuring huge stars including Olivia Colman, Matt Smith and Helena Bonham Carter.

Álex Pina is going underground for his next Netflix project.

Of the article, Pina said:
Some of the new shelters that were being built were luxury homes in the subsoil. Up to 15 floors down, with exclusive services such as cinema, pool, spa, gym and common gardens. Red jumpsuits, Salvador Dalí masks and the Italian anti-fascist revolutionary anthem “Bella Ciao” are no longer merely elements that comprise the iconoclastic Spanish caper drama “Money Heist.” They’ve managed to bleed out into real life as numerous protesters — from the hit series’ home country to Lebanon, Indonesia and beyond — have infused these motifs with their own fights against government tyranny, corruption and wealth inequality.
“I think people needed a symbol,” creator Álex Pina tells Variety. “We have this show that is presented as a resistance against governments and against institutions, and this combined with the entertainment, went beyond the borders of reality, and people just adopted it. You have these anti-heroes in the show that people actually regard as heroes and they create personal bonds and social and political bonds [with them].”

Netflix offered a sneak peek at the final episodes of its global hit drama “Money Heist” on Saturday, revealing major tension among the team with its eye on a massive score of gold, as part of the streamer’s marathon global content promotion event “Tudum.”
“La Casa de Papel,” known as “Money Heist” in English-language markets, will launch its last five episodes on Dec. 3. Netflix stressed that the series is its most-watched non-English-language drama that has been seen by 180 million households worldwise.
Set in Madrid, “La Casa de Papel” revolves around a ragtag group of misfits who decide to break into the Spanish mint to steal millions of Euros in untraceable cash. The series’ success well beyond Spain and Europe’s borders was an early signal to Netflix that going deep on local language strategy would pay dividends in the long run.

Diego Ávalos, Netflix’s VP of original content in Spain, distinctly remembers the encounter that led to his company licensing what would become its most watched non-English-language series, Spanish drama “Money Heist” (“La Casa de Papel”).
The executive’s first in-person meeting with series creator Álex Pina was a dizzying, fateful whirlwind. “He was rushing through this hotel, and he ran up to me and threw a pen drive in my hand and said, ‘You have to watch this — it’s my new show,’ and then he rushed off just as quickly.”
After the frantic rendezvous, Ávalos boarded a plane to Los Angeles and popped the drive into his laptop. When his feet hit the ground in California, he knew his next Spanish acquisition had to be “Money Heist.”

The rallying cries of the Italian anti-fascist song “Bella ciao” from The Professor’s (Álvaro Morte) gang of endearing city-named criminals will soon no longer be heard from the halls of the Bank of Spain. Álex Pina’s “Money Heist,” also known as “La Casa de Papel,” one of Netflix’s most-streamed Spanish-language shows, will reach its conclusion in two parts by the end of this year.
But while the series will come to an end, “it isn’t the end of the robbery at the Bank of Spain,” executive producer and director Jesús Colmenar said during the Television Critics Assn. press tour panel for the show on Aug. 19.
Colmenar, who was joined by Morte and Úrsula Corberó, discussed the “biggest and most thrilling” season, with Colmenar noting, “We have put the final stops in there.”
One important stop came in the fourth season, when fan-favorite character Nairobi (Alba Flores) was killed off.

If you haven’t tuned into Money Heist yet, you’ve been missing one of the hottest series on Netflix right now. It’s sexy, absurdist fun, an action soap opera like no other, so addictively bingeable that it has stolen the hearts of a worldwide audience. But it’s more than escapist fare. Money Heist has also become a rallying cry of resistance that is changing the world.
It almost didn’t happen. Netflix picked up Money Heist entirely by chance. If they hadn’t, the original series might have easily vanished into obscurity for English-speaking audiences. Once Netflix got it, it blew up and became their most watched non-English series.
Money Heist was originally broadcast on Spain’s Antena 3 channel in 2017 under its native title La Casa de Papel (The House of Paper). The first season was 15 episodes, told in two parts. The initial part garnered a...

Netflix Spain has dropped a trailer for the highly anticipated second season of its high-octane Spanish thriller series “Sky Rojo,” coming to the platform worldwide on July 23.
Shifting from the Spanish noir aesthetics of “Money Heist,” “Sky Rojo” opts for a brightly colored, neon palette to mix several genres into something its creators Álex Pina and Esther Martínez have dubbed “Latin Pulp.” In another shift, the duo has also cut each of the season’s eight episodes to a punchy 25-minute runtime.
In “Sky Rojo” season one, three exotic dancers are forced into prostitution after becoming victims of a human trafficking scheme. After a confrontation with club-owner-turned-pimp Romeo turned violent, the three broke from their chains of bondage and fled across the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife. Spanish actor Verónica Sanchez (“Gordos”), Argentine singer-actor Lali Espósito (“That’s Not Cheating”) and Cuban up-and-comer Yany Prado (“Tres Milagros”) play the three lead roles in the series.

Netflix has revealed the release date for the final season of the series 'Money Heist'. According to today’s announcement, the most famous heist in history will come to an end in two instalments of five episodes each: volume 1 will be released on September 3 and volume 2 will be released on December 3, 2021.
The creator of the series, Álex Pina, said, “When we began to write Part 5 in the midst of the pandemic, we felt that we had to change what was expected from the ten-episode season and used every tool we could to create the sensation of a season finale or series finale in the first volume itself."
Álex further elaborated, "We decided to work in an extremely aggressive genre, putting The Gang on the ropes. In volume 2, we focus more on the emotional situation of the characters. It is a journey across their sentimental map that connects us directly to their departure.
