This time out, the framing segment “What Are You Afraid Of?”, written and directed by Brad Sykes from a story by Brad and Josephina Sykes introduces us to Natalie, an artist tasked with creating the splash pages for four tales of horror for the comic Hi-Fear.

Back in 2009, writer/director Brad Sykes, producer Josephina Sykes, and their passionate cast and crew reminded viewers that "in space, everyone screams" with their sci-fi horror film Plaguers, which follows a group of space pirates battling a demonic infection that turns people into ravenous monsters. To celebrate the cult horror film's decade mark, last year Wild Eye Releasing unleashed Plaguers on a new 10th anniversary Blu-ray and DVD, and we caught up with Brad and Josephina for our latest Q&a feature to reflect on the long journey to get the film made, their fondest memory from the film's festival run, and they also discuss the new goodies fans can enjoy on the anniversary release of Plaguers!
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, Brad and Josephina, and congratulations on the recent 10th anniversary Blu-ray and DVD release of Plaguers! How did this 10th anniversary release come about?...

I’m a longtime fan of horror anthology films. I think it goes back to my love of short fiction, something I still really love to this day, and being able to get a snapshot of a story, a quick, often deliberate, sometimes hectic, slice of the chosen genre. Horror is a genre I’ve had a extended love affair with, and so mixing those two things together is a big plus for me. Released by Wild Eye Releasing, Hi-Death brings five new stories with it, each one different in tone, style and,...

Finally the trailer is here for Nightfall Pictures and Twisted Illusions' new anthology film Hi-8 (which stands for Horror. Independent. 8 Filmmakers), and we we have it here for you dripping with indie horror goodness.
From the Press Release
Hi-8 is produced by Brad Sykes, Josephina Sykes, and Tim Ritter. The directors’ lineup is Tim Ritter (Truth or Dare), Brad Sykes (Camp Blood), Marcus Koch (100 Tears), Ron Bonk (The Vicious Sweet), Donald Farmer (Savage Vengeance), Todd Sheets (Zombie Bloodbath), Chris Seaver (Filthy McNasty), and Tony Masiello (Sov: The True Independents).
Producer Brad Sykes got the idea for the anthology while working on Srs Cinema’s upcoming VHS/DVD release of his feature The Pact, which was shot on the Hi-8 format back in 1995 while Sykes was still a college student. He missed those days of carefree filmmaking and approached Tim Ritter with the idea, who already had the Hi-8 title and concept ready to go.

On just about every Friday night, when I was a kid, back in the days before Netflix (or illegal BitTorrents for all you criminals out there, you know who you are), my parents used to take me to the video store (this being their idea of active recreation, far be it from me to complain). No sooner would we get through the entrance way before I found myself in the horror and sci-fi/fantasy sections, face-to-face with a slew of low budget titles, never advertised on television, performed by actors who seldom (if ever) broke into major motion pictures, and helmed by directors who proved, time and time again, that creativity cannot be bought, but rather cultivated, with ambition and a fervent imagination.
In my formidable youth, sold on the elaborate (if at times cheesy) cover art these features put forth, I’ve managed to tantrum my way into watching...

Plaguers (Image) is a hodgepodge homage (a.k.a. ripoff) of Alien, a George Romero Dead film and a ’80s Sf-horror B-movie that Roger Corman would’ve produced back in the day. The low-budget flick takes place in the 23rd century. The spaceship Pandora is headed to Earth, and it’s carrying a mysterious green-glowing energy source that they refer to as “Thanatos.” The craft has a small crew, and I would name them if that were important, but it isn’t. The only crewmembers who aren’t interchangeable or forgettable are Captain Holloway (Alexis Zibolis) and Tarver (Steve Railsback). Actually, Holloway is rather forgettable as well—she just gets more screen time—and Railsback plays a synthoid (a.k.a. an android) in a lifeless performance in which the Helter Skelter actor goes way too far in the “I’m a robot. I have no emotions” department. Oh, there’s also the former captain,...
