- Formed a close friendship during the 1980's with Philippine action star and madcap daredevil Dante Varona, with whom he made Tiger Commando (1988) and Patron (1988). Named "The King Of Stunt", Dante Varona is a former Filipino actor and film director and was considered one of the most famous Philippine action stars from the 1970s up to the early 1990s. In 1981 Dante Varona performed a daring and spectacular stunt act when he jumped from the San Juanico Bridge (close to 100 meters) for a scene in "Hari ng Stunt"; the jump is on YouTube. It was a make-or-break for this struggling actor whose movie career could not seem to get a head start. That breathtaking leap changed his fortune overnight. The movie was dubbed as "The most death defying action thriller of the year!" He became an instant sensation and propelled him to superstardom in the Philippines. Dante almost lost his life after performing the jump and was hospitalized for several weeks. As of 2018, no one has ever broken Dante Varona's record of jumping the San Juanico Bridge without using any safety gear. In later life he wanted to jump from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, but never received permission. Dante Varona now lives a quiet live in the California.
- Spent a whole day conversing with BAFTA Awards winner Donald Pleasence on an airfield at Villamore Airbase in Manila, during the filming of Last Platoon (1988).
- I don't care about the political affiliation of Chuck Norris. I can only say that he was my idol as an action hero when I was a teenager and that it was a real pleasure to make his acquaintance. In the mid 80's Chuck was on top and I was just ecstatic and felt privileged to be able to work with him.
- Most professional, cool, smart, a man's man; just a few words to describe Robert Davi. It was one of my nicest acting experiences working with him and I received the biggest compliment ever. "Bernhard, you remind me of a young Oskar Werner". I was speechless. Aside from being an accomplished singer, most people don't know that Robert has a real funny side. He does hilarious impressions which made me blow out a soft drink through my nose.
- Manila in the 80's was known for all the go-go bars and when I saw Willem Dafoe sitting at the bar in one of the clubs called Superstar I could hardly believe my eyes. At that time he was really just known for Streets of Fire and To Live and Die in L.A. I found him to be a very intellectual person showing great interest in my personal life and background... and I'll never forget his devilish grin.
- When I spent the day with Donald Pleasence I always had a feeling that he should be my grandfather. Such a warm and charming gentleman. In my book he's one of the most under appreciated, but well known actors ever. I felt like conversing with Royalty.
- Richard Harris was a firecracker and an encyclopedia of crazy stories. He had a rough edge, but not in an unpleasant way. I really liked him right away and I think he liked me too... at least that is what he said.
