Criminal Minds continues to be a large presence in television with its current revival show Evolution. Its most recent season took major inspiration from a single question that created a frightening scenario.

Criminal Minds as most fans knew it reached its conclusion on February 19, 2020. It ended its run with 10 episodes, which had been one of the least number of episodes the show aired since its inception. Ironically, the popular police procedural would end after Covid-19 became a massive threat to the world. What fans perhaps didn’t predict was how much the pandemic would impact the series’ 16th season.
Series showrunner Erica Messer confided to Deadline that it wasn’t too long after Criminal Minds ended that she was asked to bring the show back.

Never say never. While Matthew Gray Gubler did not reprise his role as fan-favorite character Spencer Reid in the 2022 series Criminal Minds: Evolution, he’s not ruling out revisiting the role in the future, he recently said.
Matthew Gray Gubler says he’d be ‘honored’ to appear in ‘Criminal Mind: Evolution’
Last year, the Bau returned to TV in the Paramount+ series Criminal Minds: Evolution. While Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Rossi (Joe Mantegna), and other characters were all there to track down serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford), Reid was noticeably absent from the team. The show explained his absence by saying he was on a special assignment. That left the door open for Gubler to appear in future episodes. And it sounds like he’s game to do so.

When writer Liz Tigelaar isn’t on set, in her Fox lot bungalow office or at the Venice home she shares with her wife, their 7-year-old son and two French bulldogs, she occasionally relaxes at (and, yes, works from) one of the tonier trailer parks on the planet: Malibu’s Paradise Cove. One season of Criminal Minds: Evolution down, at least one more to go. The Bau may have just caught Sicarius (Zach Gilford’s Elias Voit), but they’ll be back for a 17th season, to deal with whatever Gold Star is as well as likely another hybrid of a recurring UnSub and standalone cases. And, as the series did quite well this past season, we’ll continue to see the team’s lives away from hunting down those bad guys. Showrunner Erica Messer teases what’s ahead, including a love triangle, team leader, and more. At the end of the original series’ run, you’d said you’d love to see Prentiss (Paget Brewster) possibly being nominated as the first female director of the FBI in five years’ time. Given the timing, is that something we might see a Season 17, her starting on that path or thinking if she even wants that?...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 16 finale, “Dead End.”] Criminal Minds: Evolution might have ended its 16th season with the FBI suffering a loss — Deputy Director Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto), we were just starting to like you! — but every member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) — David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau (A.J. Cook), Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Dr. Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler), and Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) — survived. And the good news is they’ll all be back for Season 17 (picked up in January). “The main cast members are all coming back,” showrunner Erica Messer confirms to TV Insider. “And then deals are still being made for some of the other faces you saw this year.” But what about the two profilers with the Bau at the end of the original run (2005-2020 on CBS) we didn’t see but only heard tidbits about in Season...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from the Thursday, February 9 finale of “Criminal Minds: Evolution,” now streaming on Paramount+.
The profilers on “Criminal Minds” know a thing or two about catching a killer. This season, the first of “Criminal Minds: Evolution,” did something they’ve never done before by following one UnSub through the season. Elias Voit/Sicarius (Zach Gilford) was finally arrested during the finale — and Rossi (Joe Mantegna) was rescued.
While the mystery of tracking down Sicarius was solved, Elias opened the door on a whole new mystery, muttering the secret phrase “gold star,” one that had hidden meaning to one agent, Doug Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto), who was killed for knowing what it meant. Here, showrunner Erica Messer breaks down what that mystery means for Season 17, whether Tyler (Ryan-James Hatanaka) will return and the future of Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) and Alvez (Adam Rodriguez).

The police procedural drama, Criminal Minds, which centers around a team of FBI profilers as they study the worst criminals the U.S. has to offer, dominated network television on CBS before it moved to the streaming service Paramount +, under its new name Criminal Minds: Evolution. Criminal Minds’ perfect mix of celebrity guest stars, and the show’s characters having strong chemistry kept fans hooked for 16 seasons.
However, all that success didn’t distract viewers from noticing the vast number of cast changes Criminal Minds has endured over the years. While almost all of the changes came as a shock, the reasoning behind some cast members’ departures differed vastly, with some leaving by force, some due to budget cuts, and others even choosing to leave for the sake of their sanity.

Criminal Minds: Evolution showrunner Erica Messer told TV Insider that “it’s gonna take a real big thing to happen for us to get [the jet] back,” and as the sneak peek Paramount+ has released from the January 12 midseason premiere, that’s exactly what’s happened. Last we saw the Bau, they had a lead on Sicarius (Zach Gilford’s Voit), though they have yet to identify him, and JJ (A.J. Cook) and Luke (Adam Rodriguez) were checking out his underground storage container when there was an explosion. Those back at the office — Prentiss (Paget Brewster), Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), Lewis (Aisha Tyler), and even Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto) — could only watch in horror as they lost the feed from their body cameras. Now, in the clip (which you can watch below) shared on Twitter, everyone’s trying to find a way to reach ...

The wait is almost over to find out if JJ (A.J. Cook) and Luke (Adam Rodriguez) survived that explosion in one of Voit’s (Zach Gilford) storage containers in the Criminal Minds: Evolution midseason finale. But that’s not all we have to look forward to in the second half of the drama on Paramount+. When new episodes resume on January 12, in addition to the Bau starting to get some wins, expect developments in Lewis’ (Aisha Tyler) relationship with Rebecca (Nicole Pacent), a set-up for another season, and much more. Showrunner Erica Messer offers a preview. I love Lewis and Rebecca together. But I know this show, I know what happens when people are in relationships, so I am worried for Rebecca. But is the threat more to her job and their relationship than maybe to her life? Erica Messer: Yes. What is coming up for those two? The...

Most of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) is back working the season-long case against UnSub Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) and his network of serial killers in Criminal Minds: Evolution. But two profilers with the team at the end of the series’ original run on CBS (2005-2020) are noticeably absent. Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Matt Simmons (Daniel Henney) are off on assignments that Deputy Director Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto) said to Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) in the premiere he wasn’t “at liberty to discuss,” adding, “if and when they return is entirely up to them. Sadly, we don’t have a say.” But how much will we hear about those assignments? “I can’t talk too much about it,” showrunner Erica Messer recently told TV Insider. “We won’t hear a ton more about what they’re up to this year, but it’ll come into play next...

A.J. Cook (Jennifer “JJ” Jareau) was right when she said fans needed to “prepare” themselves for the Criminal Minds: Evolution midseason finale (it left two of the profilers in serious peril!), but there are still another five episodes to come! And those episodes are going to lead to a “crazy” end to the season, Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez) promised TV Insider. “I think [Erica Messer and the writing team] were so excited to finally get a chance to do something that was truly serialized and still have the genius to keep it so that each episode in its own way could stand alone but it is all tied to this long arc, which wraps up in a pretty crazy way — so crazy that I would say it may not be the end of the road,” he teased. This season-long case brought tech genius Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) back to the...

We got a little breather from Elias on Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 4, but that doesn't mean we got relief from violence and bloodshed.
As the Bau seeks answers about who Sicarius is and how to stop him, they're eager to link cases with any similarities.
Unfortunately, there is no shortage of troubled minds out there just waiting to inflict pain on others.
It's always boggled my mind that so much violence is rooted in similar trauma.
Gale and Jude were victims of a horrible crime when they were younger, and the only way they knew to address it was to inflict similar pain on others.
I've not spent any time understanding the whys behind that behavior, as it's so foreign to me that I prefer to live in a bubble where it doesn't exist.
But the Criminal Minds universe has always pulled from actual criminal theories, and the fact...

The Bau is getting closer and closer to getting a win over UnSub Elias Voit/Sicarius (Zach Gilford), who’s running a network of serial killers …once they get past the halfway point of the season on Criminal Minds: Evolution. So far, the profilers know that they’re dealing with a network and they’re working on narrowing down who they might be looking for based on the kill kits still out there. They also might have some found help in the latest UnSub — who actually infiltrated the network because his sister went missing 15 years ago and he has his eye on Sicarius, they discovered in “Moose.” But these killers aren’t their only problem: Deputy Director Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto) wants to shut down the Bau and has now removed David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) as team leader; fortunately, Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), as section chief, was able to appoint herself as his replacement.

We had the chance to jump on the phone with Criminal Minds: Evolution creator and executive producer Erica Messer to discuss the disturbing events of Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 Episode 4.
Erica talked about bringing the series to the streaming market after 15 seasons and teased that Moose's story isn't finished and will not end well.
Please enjoy our conversation below.
Oh my gosh. I have to tell you, Erica, I watch a lot of TV, but I have never been as disturbed as I was over Moose's tragic ark.
Oh right.
I'm the person who never wants an animal to be killed.
I know.
But in this case, I would've preferred it. I really would. I mean, it breaks my heart that you took a cuddly bear of a dog like Moose to show and have Elias pretty much destroy everything that he was to show what kind of a monster Elias is.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains plot points from the premiere of Criminal Minds: Evolution on Paramount+.
Executive Producer Erica Messer never did get much of an explanation as to why CBS in 2019 canceled Criminal Minds, its long-running crime procedural that became appointment viewing for millions. “None of us wanted it to end creatively,” she tells Deadline. “We felt there were plenty more stories to tell. The cast was in such a groove and everybody loved being here.”
So when she was asked in the summer of 2020 to bring the show back, Messer wasn’t too worried about whether she could reassemble the Bau. “It all lined up and worked out,” she recalls. “We had four months to shoot 10 episodes and I felt pretty confident we could gather our troops for that.”

The ultimate victor in the streaming wars has been the audience, which now enjoys the spoils of a content-starved environment in which death is never final, and any familiar TV franchise has a good shot at being resurrected. For proof, as if any more is needed, look to the motley crew of psychopath hunters from the long-running procedural “Criminal Minds,” now back in action on Paramount+ less than three years after CBS took them off the case.
But this is not quite the show viewers watched for 324 episodes. Paramount+ today released the official trailer the 10-episode limited series.
Criminal Minds: Evolution will premiere with two episodes on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24, exclusively on Paramount+.
CBS Television Network also announced it will host a special broadcast airing of the first episode on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24 at 10:00 Pm, Et/Pt.
That will be a one-time thing, however.
Following the premiere, new episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays exclusively on Paramount+, with a mid-season finale on Thursday, Dec. 15.
The season will then return on Thursday, Jan. 12, with all-new episodes dropping weekly through the finale on Thursday, Feb. 9.

It’s only been two years since “Criminal Minds” ended, but the long-running procedural is already heading back to the small screen. “Criminal Minds: Evolution,” the Paramount+ sequel series to the FBI drama, will receive a special broadcast airing of its premiere on CBS, where the original show ran for 15 seasons, on November 24. That’s Thanksgiving Day, should your family want to watch serial killers after eating the turkey.

The “Criminal Minds” Behavioral Analysis Unit is back in the upcoming revival series, “Criminal Minds: Evolution.”
The crime drama series follows Bau’s elite profilers as they face a mysterious antagonist, an UnSub who used the pandemic to build a network of serial killers. When the network is set in motion, the team must bring down their greatest threat, one murderer at a time.
Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, A.J. Cook, Paget Brewster, Aisha Tyler and Adam Rodriguez star as their characters from “Criminal Minds,” while Zach Gilford and Josh Stewart appear as recurring roles.
CBS’ original “Criminal Minds” series, which ran from 2005 to 2020, followed the Bau squad as they investigated and analyzed the nation’s most dangerous serial killers and individual crimes. Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney — who played Dr. Spencer Reid and Special Agent Matt Simmons, respectively — are not yet confirmed to appear in the reboot.
