There are narrative flourishes and then there are narrative flourishes. And one in the new film from director Amy Glazer (Seducing Charlie Barker, The Surrogate) is a doozy. How much you appreciate this heartwarming drama about a female pilot who discovers that her grandmother may actually be a legendary figure in aviation history will depend on how much you’re willing to go along with its major plot twist, which won’t be revealed here but is relatively easy to figure out. But if you’re willing to suspend some disbelief, 7000 Miles, recently showcased at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, offers myriad pleasures, not the least of which is a terrific performance by Wendie Malick. The veteran sitcom actress (Dream On, Just Shoot Me, Hot in Cleveland) anchors the film with her charismatic turn in a rare leading role that Katharine Hepburn would have killed for.

Thankfully devoid of the fantasy elements endemic to so many cinematic versions of Ya novels, Kepler's Dream proves a modest but diverting family film charmer. Director Amy Glazer's straightforward approach to this adaptation of Juliet Bell's book benefits greatly from the presence of several veteran performers, especially the always reliable Holland Taylor. Currently receiving a limited theatrical engagement, the film should find a receptive young audience in home video formats.

Stars: Isabella Blake-Thomas, Holland Taylor, Steven Micheal Quezada, Esperanza Fermin, Sean Patrick Flanery, Kelly Lynch | Written and Directed by Amy Glazer
Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints, Powder), Kelly Lynch (Mr.Mercedes, Charlie’s Angels), and Holland Taylor (The Truman Show, Two and-a-Half Men) star in director Amy Glazer’s highly anticipated feature adaptation of the hit Ya novel by Juliet Bell…. Well this one is most definitely a change of pace for a review. However I was really intrigued with this movie and… Oh hell, I don’t know it could be because its nearly Christmas and that is when we drop our movie guard and be open to the possibility of a good weepie!

While the Material Girl gets back to single life, her brother is getting ready for the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone will make his feature directorial debut with a new teen thriller called Twist. The script was written by Jay Milner and Karyn Milner, and while no plot details are being released, you can get a taste of the stories they write by clicking on their names -- it's the usual fish-out-of-water stories with strange and dangerous twists. Considering the name of this project, I think it's safe to say that this will be no different.

Maurice Kanbar is making "The Scene."
"Hoodwinked" producer Kanbar Entertainment is financing the indie black comedy with its star and producer, Daphne Zuniga.
"Gossip" screenwriter Theresa Rebeck adapted the script from her play, a vicious satire of the Manhattan party circuit and entertainment industry. Zuniga will play a cynical TV talk show producer who encounters a chameleon-like social climber (Heather Gordon). Stephen Barker Turner and David Wilson Barnes round out the cast.
Director Amy Glazer is producing the low-budget feature with Lynn Webb, Ned Kopp and Zuniga, shooting on sets built in Kanbar's San Francisco home.
Glazer and Zuniga collaborated this year during the play's West Coast premiere in San Francisco.
Jonathan Baruch of Rain Management Group, which reps Zuniga with Brs Agency, is co-producer.
The CAA-repped Rebeck is no stranger to the scene she sends up, having been a New York-based producer-writer on such hits as "NYPD Blue" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
