And now, with advancements in technology making cameras smaller and smaller, their usage has become more and more insidious and dangerous. Yeon Je-gwang's “The Guest”, a stripped-back feature debut (adapted from his debut 2016 short) set in a seedy motel with a tiny cast, utilizes ideas old and technologies new to fuel some sick thrills across 77 minutes that leave you needing a hot shower to wash off its determinedly unpleasant aura.
