Despite the current season of Supergirl unfolding somewhat slowly, the producers very much picked up the pace with this past Monday’s episode, “Dark Side of the Moon.” In it, we not only learned that a Kryptonian city, Argo, survived the rest of the planet’s destruction, but that Kara’s mother, Alura, is still alive!
What’s more is that Anjali Jay’s character, Serena, is among the living as well. To this point, we’d seen her only as a construct appearing in Reign’s Fortress similar to Alura’s that’d been interacting with the Girl of Steel for the past few years. Needless to say, this is quite the game-changer.
Up until recently, The CW had been holding off on any kind of spoilers pertaining to season 3’s penultimate episode, “Make It Reign,” but now we have some images hinting at what’s to come. And...

Warning : Potential Spoilers Ahead
This week’s episode of The Flash, “Luck Be A Lady” showcases how hazardous bad luck can be, as The Flash and his team are hit by a string of unfortunate events. We have a mysterious new metahuman by the name of Hazard (a.k.a. Becky Sharpe), who can turn her luck at the expense of the people around her. It also reveals the cause for the creation of new metas (kudos to Barry Allen who was the sole reason behind this) as they were hit by the dark matter of the speed force.
The writers of the Flash were in terrific form as they deliver one more winner in this season. The ill-fated sequences like Flash tripping by stepping on marbles, the priest in the church allergic to spices or Jessie breaking up with Wally work for the larger part due to the tight writing.

If you kept up with DC TV happenings over the past year, then it’s hard to imagine that you’d forget the four-way crossover that went down last fall that brought together Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. And while I personally didn’t think it was executed as well as the previous year’s that saw Vandal Savage serve as the primary antagonist, it was pretty difficult not to enjoy seeing the collective heroes occupying the Arrowverse coming together in order to combat the Dominator menace.
Surprisingly, news pertaining to “Invasion!” isn’t entirely behind us as Deluxe’s Encore, the VFX team supervised by Armen Kevorkian, have released a pretty cool video via their YouTube page that gives us insight into the process that brought the action-packed climax to life. Seeing as how the donnybrook broke out on Legends, which served as the finale to the crossover, they had quite the roster to work with.

What I found to be particularly amusing was seeing the stand-ins for the Dominators before their CGI renderings were added in. Needless to say, guys clad in body stockings aren’t as scary as grotesque aliens – or are they? Come to think of it, this may be something the producers will want to consider when pondering baddies to include in season 3.
Anyway, with visual effects seamlessly blending with the practical these days, it’s becoming exceedingly difficult to distinguish what’s real and what’s not. Thanks to the video, however, we get to see what was what throughout the course of the episode, thus becoming a real treat to a layman such as myself.

Thankfully, tonight will mark the end of the month-long hiatus that Supergirl fans have been forced to endure. And aside from beginning the sprint leading toward a season finale that’ll include the likes of Superman and General Zod, it looks like Kara will give this reporter thing another go.
In the first of two clips we have to present today, Kara and Lena Luthor run in to the latter’s ex-boyfriend, played by Rahul Kohli (iZombie), at an event. Shortly thereafter, our heroine is confronted by a nervous man who has some secretive news to share with her, and happens to have “I’m going to be mysteriously shot in a parking lot” written all over him. What that may specifically be remains to be seen.
The second bit of footage looks like it probably precedes the first chronologically and also involves Kara and Lena, albeit in a more lighthearted setting.

Maybe it’s just me, but the hiatus we’re currently enduring when it comes to DC TV shows may very well be the most difficult to bear when you consider that the season finales are within reaching distance. Fortunately, we have a few nuggets of information to present while you pass the time, specifically the official descriptions for Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow’s returning episodes.
First, let’s talk Supergirl because it’ll be the first of the bunch to air. In this particular offering, iZombie’s Rahul Kohli drops by (hey, his show is based on a Vertigo comic, so he’s allowed to play somebody else), and pays a visit to his ex-girlfriend – Lena Luthor. If anything, the trailer embedded at the top hints that he’s not to be trusted, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Tomorrow's episode of The Flash will introduce Joey King as the villainous "Magenta", and this clip gives us a look at her in action. She actually seems like a nice enough girl at first... but who wouldn't get riled up by Draco Malfoy shouting at them? The clip cuts away before we can really see what Magenta is capable of, but you can be certain there will be some damage caused before Barry can stop her. Barry (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash are thrilled to reunite with Earth-2 Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and Jesse (guest star Violett Beane). Wells confides to Barry and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) that Jesse has all the powers of a speedster and has been saving people on his Earth. He is concerned about her safety and wants them to talk her out of using her powers. Meanwhile, Magenta, (guest star Joey King) a new meta who can control metal,...

The CW has released the first official images from next week’s episode of The Flash, and in them we see both the return of Earth-2’s Harrison and Jesse Wells along with the small screen debut of the villainous Magenta. Look closely through the gallery above though and you’ll notice a very interesting – and exciting – reveal.
In the shot of Harrison and his daughter sitting down talking, there’s a box in the background containing something which looks an awful lot like a superhero costume. Now that Jesse has the powers of a speedster (that’s something you can see more of in the promo for the episode), chances are that she’ll be getting a costume of her own to head into action as Jesse Quick.

In last night’s episode of The Flash, we learned just how much of an impact Barry Allen’s trip back in time has had on the lives of his family and friends. Caitlin Snow has developed Killer Frost’s powers, Cisco’s brother was killed by a drunk driver, and over in Arrow, Diggle’s baby daughter Sara is now his little boy John Diggle Jr. (who became Green Arrow in Legends of Tomorrow).
A new villain has also made his presence felt in Central City in the form of Dr. Alchemy, so it’s lucky for Barry that Earth-2’s Harrison Wells will return alongside his daughter Jesse in next week’s instalment. The fact that the latter is now a speedster will come as a big help, but the Fastest Man Alive is first going to have to deal with the powerful Magenta.

Season 2 of The Flash ended with Harrison Wells and his daughter Jesse returning home to Earth-2. Inevitably, fans were left wondering when the beloved characters might return, especially after Barry Allen decided to race back in time to change history. Thankfully, we now know the answer to that question, and it turns out we’ll only have to wait until the third episode.
What brings him and his daughter to Earth-1? Well, after being hit by the second particle accelerator blast which restored The Flash’s powers, it turns out that Jesse has indeed become a speedster (which may not be all that surprising to comic book fans considering the fact she’s known as Jesse Quick in the source material). For more information, here’s the official synopsis for “Magenta.”

The CW has released a clip from tomorrow night’s episode of The Flash, and it features Dr. Harrison Wells trying to convince Barry Allen, Cisco, and Iris West that the best possible solution to the titular hero no longer having his speed (he was forced to give it to Zoom in order to save Wally West’s life) is to recreate the accident which gave him his abilities.
It looks like Barry is going to take some convincing, but we already know from the promo for next week’s instalment that The Flash ends up saying yes after realizing it’s the only way to save Caitlin.

The CW has released the official descriptions for the episodes of Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow which will air during the week beginning May 2nd. Surprisingly, they feature some pretty major spoilers for what’s to come, but there will no doubt still be plenty of other twists and turns before each of these show’s respective seasons are over.
Starting with Arrow though, and there’s not much in the way of spoilers or anything of much interest to be perfectly honest. If anything, this instalment sounds a tad unexciting.
As Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) look for a magical solution to defeat Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough), a vengeance-driven Diggle (David Ramsey) gets a lead on Andy’s (guest star Eugene Byrd) whereabouts and heads off to confront his brother. Meanwhile, Alex (guest star Parker Young) takes Thea (Willa Holland) on a vacation...

As TVLine noted after nominees were announced for the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, The CW’s The Flash scored a nod with its freshman run, for Outstanding Visual Effects.
That the speedster series sparked the interest of the Academy is no S.T.A.R. Labs-like accident, given the amount of thought and consideration put into every crackle of electricity, fiery frenemy and grunting gorilla.

Yesterday night, the Visual Effect Society held their 12th annual awards show, and surprising no one, Alfonso Cuaron’s Oscar hopeful Gravity was the big winner. The film took home six Ves awards, making it by far the dominant feature on display. This obviously furthers the chances of it taking home the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, but we can all agree that it was already pretty much a lock to win there. The only other feature competing in that category that made any dent at the awards was The Lone Ranger, which won Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture. As for Gravity’s half dozen wins, they were in the categories of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture (their version of Best Picture, basically), Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture, Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture,...

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.

It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

Despite being nominated for Best Drama and having its star Anna Paquin win Best Actress in a TV Drama at this year's Golden Globes, "True Blood" was shut out of the major categories for the 2009 Emmy Awards, which announced its nominees earlier today. Here's a list of the horror-tinged shows that were recognized (with a few others whose fanbase includes a lot of our readers thrown in for good measure):

Michael Mayer, Production Designer
Gregory S. Richman, Art Director
Kimberly Wannop, Set Decorator
Heroes • Cold Snap • NBC • Universal Media Studios in association with Tailwind Productions
