Blumhouse and K Period Media have announced the inaugural fellows for the “Screamwriting” program for emerging horror film and TV writers from underrepresented groups.
The program, in partnership with the Sundance Institute, provides mentorship for the participants from industry leaders including Ryan Murphy, Bridget Savage Cole, Danielle Krudy, Mike Flanagan and Crystal Liu.
“Some of the most daring storytelling is being created today in the horror genre,” said Michelle Satter, founding senior director of Sundance Institute’s artist programs, in a statement. “This great collaboration with K Period Media Foundation and Blumhouse is an opportunity for Sundance to continue and expand on our existing work and support their creation of the ‘Screamwriting’ fellowship.”
K Period Media Foundations, part of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, runs the program with independent producer Kimberly Parker Zox directing it. The fellows are set to participate in a week-long intensive in Los Angeles followed by year-long mentorship and support.

Another day, another thriller about prosopagnosia.
French writer-director Julien Magnat's 2011 straight-to-dvd indie thriller Faces in the Crowd dealt with the disorder, which causes "face blindness" or the inability to recognize faces, in a story that saw Milla Jovovich stalked by a serial killer after suffering from a head injury. Katherine Heigl is the latest actress to have the affliction in the similarly plotted Face Blind.
Deadline reports that Heigl will produce and star in the movie, where she will play a psychologist who is struck with the affliction and finds herself stalked by the man who terrorized one of her patients. See how Face Blind is different from Faces in the Crowd? Jovovich played a schoolteacher, not a psychologist.

The delightful 'Grey's Anatomy' star Katherine Heigl is lining up a new prosopagnosian thriller. Hottie Heigl -below ('Valentine', 'Knocked Up') will star and produce 'Face Blind'. Prosopagnosia (Aka face blindness), of course, is a brain disorder relating to face perception which means the sufferer cannot remember people's faces. Heigl will play a psychologist who is stalked by a man who also did the same to one of her patients but struggles to remember his face, obviously. It's sadly not as fresh as it sounds as most of you may recall Julien Magnat's 'Faces in the Crowd' crime thriller from last year starring Milla Jovovich - which is almost a carbon plot to this one. So my question is, why? The hunt is on for a suitable director at a loose end...

★★☆☆☆ With an increasingly multitudinous selection of film releases each week, it takes something special to make a movie stand out from the rest. However, as with the aptly named Faces in the Crowd (2011), many are just bland and indecipherable. This new thriller starring Milla Jovovich is the debut feature from Oscar-nominated writer/director Julien Magnat - though don't hold your breath on him repeating that accolade anytime soon.

Faces In The Crowd
Stars: Milla Jovovich, Sarah Wayne Callies, Julian McMahon, Michael Shanks, Marianne Faithfull | Written and Directed by Julien Magnat
Giallo wannabe Faces in the Crowd stars Milla Jovovich – for once taking a break from either a) killing zombies and b) working with her husband – as Anna Marchant, a woman who witnesses a murder by the serial killer dubbed Tearjerker Jack. When Jack turns on Anna she manages to escape by falling off a bridge and banging her head – an injury which causes her to come down with a case of prosopagnosia, aka ”face-blindness.” Which means Anna cannot recognise her attacker, her husband, her friends, or anyone else for that matter, thanks to her new found inability to remember or identify faces…

Two clips from Milla Jovovich’s serial killer thriller “Faces in the Crowd”, which finds the “Resident Evil” zombie fighter facing off against a serial killer. And no, she doesn’t get any slow-motion action scenes in this one. Or at least, we don’t see any in these two first clips from the movie, going straight to DVD and Blu-ray October 25, 2011. Anna (Jovovich) may be the only survivor of serial killer Tearjerk Jack’s horrendous reign, but left with “face blindness,” she is completely unable to identify him — or anyone else. Now, with only a loyal detective’s (Julian McMahon) face familiar to her, she cannot trust anyone as she struggles to resume her normal life, and, plagued by fear and a vindictive Jack, struggles to survive. Starring Milla Jovovich, Julian McMahon, Sarah Wayne Callies, Michael Shanks, Sandrine Holt, Marianne Faithfull, Valentina Vargas and directed by Julien Magnat. Get...

Faces in the Crowd is a thriller destined for a straight-to-video release in late October. This film stars actresses Milla Jovovich and Sarah Wayne Callies in a tale of prosopagnosia. What is prosopagnosia you ask? This is a condition caused by damage to the occipital or temporal lobe that leaves the affected with an inability to remember or identify faces. This is an interesting plot device that leaves Anna unable to point a finger at a killer, who she has just witnessed kill an innocent young woman. The rest of the film revolves around this device while the film bounces back and forth in genres, between thriller and romance. The end result is an average film that is remarkably ridiculous in the final moments.
Anna is walking home from a late night club when a pair of voices draw her attention.

By about fourth year of university, I was more than a little sick of the psychological condition known to textbooks as prosopagnosia. Good thing then, that Julien Magnat has decided to cut out all the boring bits, rename it “face blindness” and give Milla Jovovich yet another memory problem.
After losing her memory in Resident Evil and, well, whatever the Hell happened in Fifth Element (it’s been so long!), Jovovich is set to lose her ability to distinguish between human faces in new thriller Faces in the Crowd (via Bloody Disgusting).
“The story centers on a woman (Jovovich) who barely survives an attack by a serial killer and wakes up in hospital with a head injury that leaves her “face-blind.” No longer able to recognize faces, she must navigate a world in which facial features change each time she loses sight of them. While most moviegoers won't be too familiar with prosopagnosia, or "face blindness," French writer/director Julien Magnat is, and utilizes the disorder as the key element in his upcoming thriller, Faces in the Crowd (amnesia would have been far too easy).
The movie stars Milla Jovovich as the victim of a serial killer's attack, but who sustains a cranial injury that triggers her inability to recognize anyone's face. While she deals with the issue, the killer begins to track her down and could be anyone she meets.
While the movie has no official release date yet, it does have a new, international trailer to promote the movie, which is likely to get a release date soon.

Writer/director Julien Magnat’s Faces in the Crowd, starring Milla Jovovich, has a new poster.
A serial killer who has been terrorizing the city. An innocent bystander witnesses his latest attack, but while fleeing, she falls from a bridge and is knocked unconscious. When she awakes in the hospital, she can”t recognize family, her boyfriend or even her own face in the mirror. She is diagnosed with prosopagnosia, or ”face blindness”. This is a real neurological disorder, like dyslexia but with faces, caused by a lesion of the temporal lobe, the part of the brain that allows us in a heartbeat to compare someone’s face with all the faces stored in our memory.
She is incapable of recognizing the same face twice. Every time she looks at someone, it’s like she’s never met them before. Being the only witness, she is hunted by the killer,...

She saw the killer's face, but it keeps changing... I promise you that's the tagline - right off of this poster! A new trailer hit the web today via Bloody-Disgusting for a horror-thriller film called Faces in the Crowd, starring actress Milla Jovovich as a woman with "face-blindness" who loses recognition of faces. When she isn’t starring in Paul W.S. Anderson action flicks, Milla Jovovich dabbles in more interesting projects here and there. Most recently she was part of the overlooked Stone, as well as the highly underrated A Perfect Getaway. We have the first trailer for Julien Magnat‘s thriller also starring Julian McMahon, Sarah Wayne Callies, Michael Shanks, Sandrine Holt, Marianne Faithfull and Valentina Vargas.
The concept of face blindness the film brings up reminded me of an excellent Radiolab episode titled Strangers in the Mirror. It is a fascinating story that should serve as a nice counterpart to this drama. Check out the new trailer below via Dread Central and I’ve embedded the Radiolab episode as well underneath.

[1] A new international trailer has dropped for Julien Magnat's Faces in the Crowd, starring Milla Jovovich as an elementary school teacher with the misfortune to witness a serial killer's latest attack. Though she survives the incident, she sustains an injury that renders her completely unable to remember faces -- even those of her dearest loved ones. With Detective Kerrest (Nip/Tuck's Julian McMahon) on her side, Jovovich's character must find a way to recognize the killer before he finds her. Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead), Michael Shanks (Stargate Sg-1), and Marianne Faithfull also star. Watch the trailer after the jump. [via Dread Central [2]] Prosopagnosia, or "face blindness" as it's commonly called, seems so like a condition tailor-made for dramas or thrillers (much like amnesia or Capgras syndrome [3]) that I'm surprised there aren't more films about it already. Just because I.ve never heard of the medical term .prosopagnosia,. or .face blindness,. doesn.t mean I can.t dig on the unnerving new international trailer for Julien Magnat.s thriller Faces in the Crowd. It's been quite some time since Julien Magnat's thriller, Faces In The Crowd, went into production. With no Us distribution in place yet, an international trailer has arrived for the film that stars Milla Jovovich, Julian McMahon, Michael Shanks, David Atrakchi, Sarah Wayne Callies and Marianne Faithful. "The story centers on a woman (Jovovich) who barely survives an attack by a serial killer and wakes up in hospital with a head injury that leaves her "face-blind." No longer able to recognize faces, she must navigate a world in which facial features change each time she loses sight of them. All the while the killer is closing in, determined to eliminate the potential witness." The 2-minute long trailer is intriguing, but I'm not sure how long the concept can remain engaging. Still, love Jovovich and will see anything she stars in...

Faces in the Crowd has a new official trailer, which shows more of actress Milla Jovovich and of serial killer Tearjerk Jack. In the clip, Milla as Anna Marchant suffers a fall which damages her brain. After recovery she experiences an impairment known as prosopagnosia.
This is a real life neurological deficit that affects the ventral stream of the temporal lobe. This is somewhat near the brain stem, or the lower portion of the brain. Usually, this impairment is caused by lesions in the brain suffered from a stroke, but it would not be hard to imagine a hard fall causing a hemorrage. Any blood on the brain then destroys any brain tissue. Thanks Psych' 337 (Human Perception).
Have a look at the clip below as Anna must face a serial killer. This is difficult for Anna when she is unable to recognize him!

Stomp the Yard and The Losers director Sylvain White has been busy…super busy. Currently working on a few highly anticipated productions, including Frank Milller’s Ronin and the King Arthur legend Pendragon, he also has found time to play mentor and producer to writer-director Julien Magnat’s psychological thriller Faces in the Crowd.
Starring Milla Jovovich, queen of the Resident Evil films, the horror-thriller centers on a woman living with “face-blindness” after surviving a serial killer’s attack. As she lives with her condition, one in which facial features change each time she loses sight of them, the killer closes in.
White is a producer on the film along with Scott Mednick (Where The Wild Things Are), Jean-Charles Levy, Clement Miserez and Kevin DeWalt.
It’s slated to be released next year. There’s been no official release of a trailer yet but when there is you know S&A is on it!

Milla Jovovich doesn’t always fight gross looking zombies in front of the camera. Sometimes she plays the victim, too. She does just that in “Bloody Mallory” director Julien Magnat’s Hollywood debut, the thriller “Faces in the Crowd”. “Crowd” has Jovovich playing a woman strapped with a condition called “face-blindness” after she survives an attack by a serial killer. As she lives with her condition, one in which people’s facial features change each time she loses sight of them, the killer realizes she’s the only one who has ever seen his face, and closes in to finish the job. The film stars Jovovich and “Nip/Tuck’s” Julian McMahon, and is well into shooting. First images from the movie from Kino (via Styd).

Imagine surviving a horrific trauma only to be left "face blind", meaning you're okay but cannot recognize anyone by their face anymore. Julian McMahon is probably very happy that his FX channel show “Nip/Tuck” is wrapping up. The guy’s got a thriving movie career, and I’m sure having to go back to the plastic surgery show was curbing his style. After a couple of villainous turns, McMahon will now put on his good guy badge for the thriller “Faces in the Crowd”, in which he will play a cop who helps leading lady Milla Jovovich try to survive a serial killer. In the Julien Magnat-directed thriller, Jovovich plays a woman who survives a serial killer’s attack, but falls off a bridge and wakes up with “face blindness”, which prevents her from recognizing people’s faces, including the serial killer’s. That becomes a problem when the killer comes back for her. Shooting begins in March.

Julian McMahon, whose good looks have successfully been restored by plastic surgeons following that whole metalhead Doctor Doom thing in Fantastic Four and its sequel, has signed up to star in Face In The Crowd, opposite Milla Jovovich. The story, as you may remember, sees Jovovich witness a murder before falling off a bridge (careless, careless) and awaking to find that she is suffering from "face blindness" (a real condition, believe it or not) making it difficult for her to tell people apart. McMahon will play the detective investigating her case and her love interest (clever - double up and save money on casting!) as she tries to figure out the killer's identity before she's next on the hit list (cue scary music).Julien Magnat wrote the script and is directing, with shooting due to start next month. ...

Variety reports that Milla Jovovich is set to join Faces in the Crowd after she finishes work on Resident Evil: Afterlife. Jovovich will play the survivor of a serial killer attack who ends up "face blind," i.e. unable to remember faces. Despite her condition, the killer is hunting her down to finish the job.
Faces in the Crowd marks the English-language debut of French writer/director Julien Magnat, who will have help from producers Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard and the upcoming The Losers) and Scott Mednick (Where the Wild Things Are), who in particular was very impressed with the Magnat's script.
