The Chi’s Emmett is a smooth talker, as he himself notes in this week’s midseason premiere. “I’ve got the gift of gab,” he confidently tells Jada and Darnell. “With women, not criminals!” his mother shoots back. It’s an important point, given the conversation that Emmett thinks he’s ready for by the end of the episode. (Spoiler alert: He has no idea how much worse things can get.)
And that’s really saying something, given that Emmett was already at a lifetime low, having just botched a murder attempt on the high-powered gangster who runs the South Side of Chicago.

Food Network star Darnell “SuperChef” Ferguson has been arrested in Louisville, Ky., on charges including burglary, strangulation, and terroristic threatening. Additionally, he faces misdemeanor charges such as assault, menacing, criminal mischief, and theft involving a stolen credit or debit card. Metro Corrections booking records show he was processed at 3:55 p.m. local time and had an emergency protection request granted against him on January 2, but the connection to his arrest remains unclear. Ferguson states on his website that he “found himself on a self-destructive path, leaving him homeless, in and out of jail, and unemployed for nearly a year” before he became “serious” about his cooking career. “Darnell teaches kids, communities, and those in need how cooking can be a positive and creative outlet by employing teens, young adults, and those in need,” it continues. He is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, with a hearing for the protection order set for Jan.

Every season of The Chi feels like the show has reinvented itself, keeping the same drift but with different strokes.
The Chi Season 6 Episode 1 caught us up with where everyone was emotionally, economically, and of course, romantically.
The cold open felt like a flashback as we met Keisha and Emmett in a familiar position where they still liked some morning glory action, but instead of Jada interrupting them, their choices did.
The focus of the hour was Emmett, Douda, and their new partnership, which everyone who learned about it knew it was a bad idea.
A city grows and changes in two ways.
One is when or if there's a boom in immigration, it gets pumped with new ideas and money.
The other way is when the children grow up. And the children we met on The Chi Season 1 were grown up.
"New Chi City" did not hold back...

The citizens of a galaxy far, far away sure love their masks and face coverings, don't they? One of the very first things we see in the original "Star Wars" is Darth Vader in his iconic helmet flanked by Stormtroopers in their respective headgear. For that matter, Boba Fett became one of the most popular supporting players in the franchise purely thanks to his Mandalorian helmet and the mystique it projects. It's not just villains and antiheroes, though. Even the sequel trilogy heroes Finn and Rey are wearing masks when we meet them in "The Force Awakens."
From a storytelling perspective, masks are a useful way of getting your audience to wonder who's underneath and what their deal is from the moment they arrive. It creates intrigue and mystery, which is particularly effective when you're trying to build hype for a new "Star Wars" project. That's presumably why the "Ahsoka...

“The Chi” dropped its first trailer for Season 6 Tuesday, teasing how the Showtime series will put Emmett and Keisha’s blissful union to the test while spotlighting Douda’s shifting loyalties in the fallout of Q’s murder, Kiesha’s burgeoning career aspirations, the high schoolers’ graduation and more.
“I’m forever grateful to Chicago. It made me who I am,” Kevin (Alex R. Hibbert) says in the trailer, which shows him and his friends enjoying their senior prom.
“The city is all we got. We’re going to stumble sometimes, but we’ve got to help each other get back up again,” Emmett (Jacob Latimore) adds.
But on the flip side, a new character Darnell (Rolando Boyce) indicates that “The Chi” won’t be all fun and laughs: “And we all need to be mindful of the company we keep,” he says.

One of the architects of reality TV is leaving his position.
Mike Darnell, president unscripted television at Warner Bros. TV, is leaving the studio after 10 years. The former Fox executive says his departure comes after conversations with Wbtv Group chairman and CEO Channing Dungey.
“Channing approached me a couple of months ago, and although I was given the opportunity to stay, it would have meant more changes for both my personal deal and to the general structure of the division,” Darnell said in a statement. “Call it fate, or just good timing, during my discussions with Channing, a couple of new ventures have come my way. Even so, deciding to leave was difficult. (Those who know me know I am not a fan of change.) I want to thank my amazing studio team. The dark prince of the unscripted world is plotting his next chapter: Mike Darnell is exiting Warner Bros. Television Group after a decade with the studio, a move he decided to make after a restructuring would have altered his role at the company. Darnell, who had served as president of unscripted television for Warner Bros., and Warner Bros. Television Group chairman/CEO Channing Dungey were set to announce the change on Thursday.
As part of the new structure, Darnell won’t be replaced; instead, the alternative and unscripted divisions that reported to Darnell will now report directly to Dungey. Darnell had a year left in his current contract with the studio.
“Letting yourself go is always difficult…I took a deep breath, called myself on Zoom and told myself it was time to leave,” Darnell said in a statement, in his usual unique style. “I took it surprisingly well,” he quipped.

Channing Dungey’s Warner Bros. Television Group has been the hardest hit during Tuesday’s expected round of layoffs as part of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s efforts to find 3 billion in post-merger cost savings.
Sources say Dungey’s division — which includes scripted, unscripted and animation — has reduced its workforce by 26 percent. Included in the tally are 82 employees (19 percent) who were laid off Tuesday as well as 43 vacant positions (7 percent). All told, 125 positions have been eliminated across business affairs, production and all forms of creative at the studio. Sources note that while some longtime employees were impacted Tuesday, most of the positions eliminated were considered to be low- to mid-level staffers.

Warner Bros. Television Group handed out pink slips to 82 staffers on Tuesday, representing 19 of the studio’s workforce, across its scripted, unscripted and animation divisions. Additionally, it has opted not to fill 43 additional vacant positions — making for a total elimination of 125 jobs (or 26 of an approximately 481 headcount).
Warner Bros. TV Group declined comment, but it’s understood that chairman Channing Dungey detailed to staff a series of changes that included various levels of consolidation in unscripted and animation. Also, as reported Tuesday afternoon, the company has closed Stage 13, a shingle focused on diverse shortform programming (leading to the exit of Stage 13 head Diana Mogollón), and will end the Warner Bros. Television Workshop, which had existed for decades as a training ground for new creative talent in both writing and directing.

It seems that it's never in the cards for Murphy Mason to have a happy ending.
After all of the ups and downs throughout the series, especially this season, the Murphy and Max romance came to an utterly tragic end during In The Dark Season 4 Episode 12 when Max died protecting Murphy.
If that was the penultimate episode of the season, one can't even fathom what the series finale will entail!
The only satisfactory end for a character like Josh is death. It's actually incredible that he's somehow managed to surpass Dean as the most loathsome character; Dean, the dirty cop, working with a ruthless drug dealer who murdered an unarmed Black teenager in cold blood and covered it up.

Showtime has picked up a sixth season of The Chi, its popular drama series created and executive produced by Lena Waithe and executive produced by Common. The renewal comes while Season 5 is still airing, with new episodes dropping Fridays on streaming and on-demand and Sundays on the linear network, heading to the season finale, which will stream September 2 and premiere on-air two days later.

Five seasons in, the coming-of-age drama set in the South Side of Chicago remains a strong performer, with Season 5 on pace to set a new record for the series in streaming, growing that audience by over 20 from last season.
Cancellations/Renewals Scorecard: TV Shows Ended Or Continuing In 2021-22 Season
Produced entirely in Chicago by 20th Television, The Chi will return for Season 6 in 2023.
