1978 founding member of the Alternative List for Democracy and Environmental Protection, 1987 to 1989 AL parliamentary group leader in the Berlin House of Representatives, 1991 to 2004 member of the House of Representatives, mainly as chairman of the Alliance90/The Greens parliamentary group, September 2004 top candidate of the Greens in Brandenburg; June 2001 to January 2002 Mayor and Senator for Justice in Berlin.
