Annecy, France – Spain will be the country of honor at 8th edition of Mexico’s Pixelatl animation event, it was announced at an Annecy Festival presentation of the Animation Ibero-American White Paper, backed by Tenerife’s Quirino Awards.
The upcoming edition of Pixelatl will run September 3-7 in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Pixelatl will showcase Spanish features and shorts, and will offer panels and keynotes about Spanish animation. Fifteen animation studios have confirmed their participation at the market. Pixelatl CEO José Iñesta assured that an important number of Spain’s independent creators, producers, associations like Women in Animation in Spain (Mia), and new talent will also attend the festiavl.

Annecy – Brazil’s “Beyond the Legend,” Venezuela’s “Karetabla” and Chile’s “Witches’ Business” are among the thirteen animation projects selected to participate at the 5th Bridging the Gap (Btg), a Canary Island-based intensive animation workshop.
Since its first edition in 2015, Tenerife animation lab Bridging the Gap has promoted fifty international feature films and animation series. One of them, “Homeless,” competes at this week’s Annecy Festival in the new Contrechamp showcase. Focus Features International and 02 Filmes announced a co-production covering "VIPs," a con-man drama that's begun lensing in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Penned by "City of God" scribe Braulio Mantovani, the film is a fictional story loosely based on a book by Mariana Caltabiano about real-life con artist Marcelo da Rocha.
"VIPs" features an ensemble cast of international actors with Wagner Moura in the lead role. Directed by Toniko Melo, "VIPs" is being produced by 02's Fernando Meirelles and Paulo Morelli, with Bel Berlinck serving as exec producer.
Universal Pictures International will release the film in Brazil in 2010.
" 'VIPs' is a fascinating film about much more than just a con man's life," Meirelles said. "This is the story of somebody trying to discover who he is. There is a bit of Marcelo in all of us, as we always act differently depending on the situation we are in."...
