Franz Ludwig von Erthal High School in Lohr am Main. Trained as a wholesale and retail merchant, business school for management and business administration, assistant to the executive board in a retail group.
1972 Joined his parents' business. Re-founded Michelbach KG, wholesale and retail; took over the craft businesses Willy Schäffer, Modehaus Schäffer GmbH and MIBEG.
Member of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations (BDA) and the German Retail Federation (HDE). Chairman of BWK Coburg/Kronach, Assembly member of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
1990 District Chairman of the CSU Main-Spessart, 1998 member of the CSU party executive. Chairman of the Mittelstands-Union. Deputy Federal Chairman and Chairman of the Tax Commission of the CDU/CSU MIT. 1978 Deputy Mayor of Gemünden am Main, 1982, 1988 and 1994 elected 1st Mayor of Gemünden am Main, 1984 District and Parliamentary Group Chairman.
