Longtime TBS rising star Thom Hinkle has stepped down as head of original content for TBS, TNT and TruTV after less than a year in the top programming post. He will be replaced by Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain who have been promoted to co-head Scripted Originals for the three linear networks. They will report to Brett Weitz, General Manager, TBS, TNT and truTV.
Linsky, SVP of Original Programming, who recently celebrated 25 years with the company, will expand his responsibilities, alongside O’Riain, who has been promoted to SVP. Together, they will oversee the networks’ scripted content. Like most basic cable networks, Turner’s linear brands have been scaling back on original scripted series and ramping up their reality slates. Additionally, Linsky will work in partnership with Weitz and other company leaders to develop and execute strategic planning and programming initiatives.

After bouncing its gritty drama “Snowpiercer” from TNT to TBS and back to TNT again, the networks formerly known as Turner experienced a bit of a brand identity crisis last year.
But as its execs prepare to launch the streaming service HBO Max, they’re also re-establishing unique brand markers for basic cable flagships TNT, TBS and TruTV.
Brett Weitz, who was promoted to general manager of the three networks in October, detailed each network’s distinctiveness to reporters on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association press tour. TNT will focus on “big, lean-forward thrilling television,” like live sports, its movie package and big-budget dramas. TBS will continue to be comedy-focused, including hour-long shows. And TruTV will mix unscripted with edgy comedy series.
As HBO Max launches, Weitz said WarnerMedia is still fully invested in the three networks, which he said are still in 96 million homes. “We evolve them, we...

Exclusive: Steve Buscemi and Wren Arthur’s Olive Productions has closed a two-year, first-look deal with TBS and TNT.
Under the pact, the New York-based company plans to mine their talent relationships to develop drama and comedy series for the two WarnerMedia networks. Buscemi and Arthur already are working on book and other IP adaptations, as well as several provocative and aspirational unscripted series ideas.

TBS has ordered a second season of Miracle Workers, its anthology comedy that will move stars Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi from heaven to the depths of medieval times.
Geraldine Viswanathan and Karan Soni also star in the Broadway Video series created by Simon Rich. Its inaugural season saw Radcliffe playing a low-level angel responsible for handling all of humanity’s prayers. His boss, God (Buscemi), had His fill of Earth and planned simply to blow it up and move on. The band of angels were out to prevent that.
The core four cast members return for Season 2 of Miracle Workers, which will be a medieval story about friendship, family and trying not to be murdered. It revolves around a group of villagers in the dark ages trying to stay positive in an age of inequality and fake news.

The network has greenlighted half-hour pilot Tribeca, written and executive produced by Steve Carell and Nancy Carell and to be directed by Steve Carell, whose company Carousel Television is producing. Hinlke ran Carousel and developed and sold Tribeca to TBS before joining the network as VP Comedy last month. Described as the brainchild of Steve and his wife, actress Nancy Carell, Tribeca is a satirical look at a police procedural anchored by Angie Tribeca, a 10-year veteran of the Lapd’S elite Rhcu (Really Heinous Crimes Unit). This single-camera comedy explores an eccentric but brilliant group of people who investigate crime, reveal way too much personal information, and refuse to rest until justice has been served…sort of. USA is developing a series about a modern-day Robin Hood in addition to its usual crop of crime procedurals and legal dramas.
The network announced seven projects in development on Monday, including content from Steve Carell ("The Office"), Anthony Edwards ("ER") and John Michael Higgins ("Best in Show").
"With the proven power of the 'Characters Welcome' brand guiding our development, USA has produced a stunning track record of No. 1 new original series for four consecutive years, and has grown the network into a trusted destination for quality programming," said Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming at USA. "These new projects all combine strong characters and superior storytelling, offering viewers the kind of exceptionally written, aspirational originals they won't find anywhere else."
In "Robyn," an updated gender-twist on "Robin Hood," a young woman who decides she has done nothing with her life commits to rob from the upper class and giving to the poor.

Dunder Mifflin branch manager Michael Scott is branching out into TV producing.
"The Office" star Steve Carell has launched a television division of his Carousel Prods., which has inked a three-year overall deal with Universal Media Studios, the studio behind his NBC comedy series.
Thom Hinkle and Campbell Smith of North South Prods., former producers on Carell's alma mater, Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," have been tapped to run Carousel's TV operations.
Carell, who also writes for "Office" and is a producer on the show, is said to be serious about expanding into TV producing.
