Elon Musk dubbed an X/Twitter post “extremely concerning” after it alleged large numbers of voters were registering in the U.S. without IDs, but election officials in Texas and Arizona were quick to call him out for spreading misinformation.
The post, made by one of Musk’s favorite accounts @EndWokeness (a far-right account the Tesla CEO replies to incessantly), stated that “the number of voters without a photo ID is Skyrocketing in 3 key swing states: Arizona, Texas, and Pennsylvania.”

Meek Mill is seeing the impact of his advocacy with the Reform Alliance firsthand. On Friday, the rap star joined Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro during a press conference after the governor signed SB838, a new probation reform bill, which limits the length of probation and prevents people from being sent back to jail for minor violations.
Mill reflected on the fact that every time he crossed from New York to New Jersey to pick up his son for school during his probation, he was “committing crime the whole time due to technical violations.

Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer who managed to escape from a Pennsylvania jail, successfully evaded capture by slipping through a police perimeter last Thursday. Now, authorities are urging for an expanded search effort, as they have confirmed it to be him caught on a trail camera in a nearby botanical garden on Tuesday.
There is strong suspicion among authorities that Cavalcante may still be hiding within Longwood Gardens, which is approximately five miles away from the prison he escaped from in Pocopson Township six days prior.
Cavalcante’s escape occurred a week after he was sentenced to life in prison for the 2021 murder of his former girlfriend, 38-year-old Deborah Brandao. This gruesome act involved her being brutally stabbed in front of her two young children, triggered by her discovery of Cavalcante’s prior murder charges in Brazil. She had also threatened to report him to the police. Subsequently, Cavalcante fled to Virginia,...

Robert G. Bowers, who was found guilty on 63 charges, including the murder of 11 people, connected to the 2018 mass shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue, was sentenced to death Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Bowers was deemed eligible for the death penalty prior to the sentencing phase of his trial. After two days of deliberation, the federal jury unanimously opted to give Bowers death as opposed to a life-in-prison sentence.
The decision against Bowers marked the first federal death sentence imposed under the Biden Administration, CNN reports. (While Pennsylvania Governor...

East Palestine, Ohio — Donald Trump traveled to East Palestine, Ohio, on Wednesday to try to make political hay out of the Feb. 3 train derailment that released hazardous toxins into the town on the state’s border with Pennsylvania.
The former president spoke for around 10 minutes to a hand-selected group of Trump-friendly journalists assembled at the town’s fire station. He claimed, as he’s been doing since last week, that he’s responsible for any federal aid on its way to East Palestine, while alleging the Biden administration doesn’t...

The breakdown in Ticketmaster’s sales of Taylor Swift tickets is a mess some attorneys general aren’t shaking off.
With fans sharing outrage and heartache over the fruitless hours they spent trying for seats for Swift’s upcoming concert tour, top legal chiefs in Nevada, Tennessee and Pennsylvania have launched investigations into the fiasco.
“Trouble, trouble, trouble,” tweeted Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro in a reference to Swift’s 2012 hit song ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ as he asked the public to file complaints about using Ticketmaster with his office.
Shapiro, a Democrat who recently won Pennsylvania’s governor race, has since thanked people for their “swift response” while noting his office had received “a lot of complaints” to look into.
Over in Tennessee, Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said he wants to ensure consumers have a fair shot at buying tickets.

Barack Obama stopped by The Daily Show on Thursday to discuss why he believes youth turnout made a huge difference in the midterm elections and how globalization, disinformation and media infrastructure have contributed to democracy weakening around the world.
Trevor Noah began his conversation with the former president by asking him two questions: if he feels pressure to come out and support new Democratic candidates, and what he thinks it means for the party that he always has to hit the campaign trail.
While it seemed like Noah was hinting at the fact that Obama was a major factor in the Democratic victories this year, he shut down that notion and countered by saying he thinks it had everything to do with the people who were running.

The Republican Party “shit the bed so bad” on Tuesday night.
That’s how one longtime GOP strategist who worked on several high-profile 2022 races put it just hours after midnight. The operative wasn’t alone in his misery: A total of 16 Republican strategists, grassroots activists, Donald Trump confidants, and elected officials began venting to Rolling Stone Tuesday night (some completely unprompted) about the party’s disappointment midterm results. The general sentiment: The GOP had historically botched the midterms, had good reason to panic, and should feel humiliated.
“What the fuck is happening?...

Razor-thin margins around the country left control of Congress undetermined Wednesday, but Democrats showed surprising strength in the midterm election, topping Republicans in a series of competitive races and defying expectations that high inflation and President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings would drag his party to key defeats.
In the most heartening news for Democrats, John Fetterman flipped Pennsylvania’s Republican-controlled Senate seat that’s key to the party’s hopes of maintaining control of the chamber. But Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin won reelection, raising the stakes of races in Nevada, Georgia and Arizona that were too early to call but could determine the majority.
In the House, Democrats kept seats in districts from Virginia to Kansas to Rhode Island, while many districts in states like New York and California had not been called.

In unalloyed good news for democracy, Republican, Jan. 6 insurgent, and Big Lie promoter Doug Mastriano lost the Pennsylvania gubernatorial contest Tuesday night. The victory by Democrat Josh Shapiro was important not just for the Keystone State, but for the nation at large, because Pennsylvania’s governor appoints its secretary of state — the top election official — and Maga Mastriano made clear he intended to use that power to turn the swing state red.
By now many Maga Republicans expected to be popping champagne corks. But the defeat of the Trump-backed Mastriano...

On a foggy autumn morning in the heart of the region that handed Donald Trump the presidency, Josh Shapiro is quoting Hebrew scripture to a boisterous throng fearing the worst in the upcoming election.
“I do what I do because of my faith,” the Democratic gubernatorial nominee tells the rapt crowd at the Cro Club, a Croatian bar and bowling alley that’s smelled of beer and cigarettes since before Western Pennsylvania’s steel mills closed a half century ago.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday called on three Los Angeles City Council members to resign over remarks that were made in a leaked audio recording.

Trump-endorsed Pennsylvania gubernatorial nominee Doug Mastriano said in a 2019 interview that women and the doctors who violated his proposed six-week abortion ban should be charged with murder, according to an interview unearthed by NBC News.
During a discussion with the radio station Witf about a “fetal heartbeat” bill proposed by Mastriano, the state senator was asked if his bill (which would have tightened Pennsylvania’s abortion ban from 24 weeks to about 6 weeks) would result in women who got abortions at 10 weeks being subject to murder charges.

Last Friday night, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made a bold pitch for re-election to the voters of Pennsylvania. A couple hours later, he took the same stump to Ohio. Two days after that, on Sunday, he flew back to his home state – the only one in which he is currently running for election – to barnstorm for a slate of 30 different school board officials.
With Donald Trump just as likely to entertain a grand jury as a rally crowd, Republican interest groups are starting to entertain a new avatar for conservative might in the Florida governor.

No one would mistake Doug Mastriano — the Trump-endorsed candidate for governor in Pennsylvania — for a moderate. He tried to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory, participated in the events of Jan. 6 (where he was slated to be a speaker), and has endorsed a no-exceptions abortion ban, dismissing the notion of “my body, my choice” as “ridiculous nonsense.”

One of the most highly publicized primaries of the 2022 campaign season looks like it might be headed for a recount.
Mehmet Oz leads David McCormick by barely 2,000 votes after Tuesday’s primary, putting the quack TV doctor who landed Trump’s endorsement early last month up by around 0.2 percentage points over the well-funded, establishment-backed businessman. The race heads to a recount if the margin winds up being smaller than 0.5 percentage points. The winner will take on John Fetterman, who demolished Rep. Conor Lamb in the the Democratic primary on Tuesday.

It felt like an episode of “The West Wing.” Civil servants in battleground states were thrust into the spotlight as the nation’s political future hung in the balance of vote-counting efforts in convention centers and sports arenas. State and local officials with election-related duties put a human face on voting in America as they updated an anxious world on the status of the count, in 100,000- , 10,000- and 1,000-ballot increments. The prevalence of articulate government pros speaking with authority about the sanctity of the vote made it that much harder to buy into conspiracy theories about massive voter fraud.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan released a damning preliminary report Wednesday on her office’s findings that the Catholic dioceses in the state had withheld the names of over 500 priests accused of sexually abusing minors.
