EntertainmentComedian Vir Das skillfully uses one of the most heated criticisms against him from Arnab Goswami to create promotional content.Instragram / YouTubePopular actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das has put out an interesting video snippet promoting his upcoming comedy tour across 33 countries. The comedian, widely known for his political satire, landed in controversy in 2021 after his stand-up piece titled “I come from two Indias” went viral. In it, he satirised India’s political misgovernance and systemic misogyny among other things, exposing himself to severe backlash. Republic TV head Arnab Goswami then went at him in a news hour debate, claiming that Vir Das was abusing India in America, where the said show was filmed. Now, the comedian has stitched bits of Arnab’s voice from the 2021 news hour debate and made a new promo for his upcoming comedy tour. In his new promotional reel, Vir Das makes a request to...

The actors and makers of web series "Tandav" on Amazon Prime vehemently urged the Supreme Court on Wednesday to grant them protection from arrest in several FIRs registered across the country, but the top court declined to accede to their request, and instead made some sharp oral observations on the show's content and stressed that freedom of speech is not absolute.
The petitioners were represented by senior advocates Fali Nariman, Mukul Rohatgi (for Amazon India Creative Head Aparna Purohit), senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, and advocate Siddharth Agarwal (for actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub).
Agarwal argued that the views of a character depicted in the web series cannot be ascribed to the actor's personal view. His client was contacted to play a certain role, and it had nothing to with him as an individual, he told a bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, R. Subhash Reddy and M.R. Shah.

Web series 'Tandav' actors, makers, including Saif Ali Khan and Ali Abbas Zafar likely face arrest after Supreme Court on Wednesday turned down their pleas for protection from arrest.
A three judge bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan only issued notice on clubbing of various FIRs registered across the country and asked actor Zeeshan Ayyub and others to move to High Courts for quashing of FIRs or bail in the matters.
Senior Advocate Fali S. Nariman requested for an order of no coercive action against the cast and producers of the web series. However, the bench refused to grant relief. "Approach High Court" said the top court.
During the hearing the apex court noted that it may consider the request for clubbing the FIRs, but it cannot take the power of the High Court under CrPC.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday orally observed that freedom of speech is not absolute during its hearing on pleas seeking stay on FIRs against actors and producers of Tandav web series on Amazon Prime.
A bench headed by Ashok Bhushan expressed its disinclination to pass any direction to stay the FIRs. The top court said the petitioners should go to the high courts to seek quashing of these cases.
Senior advocates Fali S. Nariman, Mukul Rohatgi and Siddharth Luthra cited the top court judgment in Arnab Goswami case to seek relief in the matter.
Luthra argued that the director of the web series is being harassed. "Is this way liberty should be protected in the country and FIRs are being filed across the country," he added.
The bench observed that the right to freedom of speech is not absolute and it is subjected to restrictions.

I confess I am disappointed with the trailer of Laxmmi Bomb. It tries so hard to be funny,it hurts! It makes the same mistake that Priyadarshan made in his worst comedies. It thinks the harder the characters scream the more amused the audience would get.And if they run helter-skelter around the house , the plot I sure to find the comic cosmos.
Good that we will see this film indoors during Diwali. Maybe it will drown the sound of exploding crackers outside. In the meanwhile you can always pump up the volume in the trailer when your wife is arguing about the unattended bills or the unkempt lawn or that long due haircut(hers or yours).
Laxmmi Bomb is the noisiest entertainer of the year. Coolie No 1 will just have to find another way to get our attention. Maybe Varun Dhawan mouthing one line that makes sense would do the trick.

She also questioned Taapsee and Swara Bhaskar for defending the film industry and called them ‘B-grade actresses’ and ‘needy outsiders’. “I only have to lose here, because tomorrow they (referring to the ‘movie mafia’) will get some 20 needy outsiders like Taapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar who will say ‘oh only Kangana has a problem with Karan Johar, but we love Karan Johar.’ If you love Karan Johar, why are you both B Grade actresses? You are better looking than Alia Bhatt and Ananya,...

John Oliver had a lot to unpack Sunday night on Last Week Tonight and he started with the hottest topic that has been invading the world and headlines: coronavirus…or how Oliver puts it, “How the common cold describes itself on its resume.”
Specifically, he wasted no time in dragging Donald Trump and his administration in how poorly they have been handling the outbreak as cases continue to rise. In one clip, he showed Trump talking during a press conference saying that a vaccine will be ready in a couple of months. Immediately after, a medical professional contradicted him saying that it could be a year to a year and a half for a vaccine to be deployed.
“Now it seems that with every Trump press conference has to come an epilogue from an expert clarifying everything he just got wrong,” Oliver remarks.
Not only has the Trump administration been giving bad information,...
