Toronto-based Raven Banner has picked up international sales rights to the dark fairy tale Tigers Are Not Afraid (Vuelven) and has introduced to buyers in Tiff.
Issa Lopez wrote and directed the film, which takes place against the backdrop of the Mexican drug war and stars Paola Lara as Estrella, a 10-year-old girl granted three wishes shortly after her mother disappears.
Estrella’s first wish brings unexpected results when finds herself on the streets and must form an alliance with gang of orphaned boys.
The film has won several awards and was nominated for 10 Ariel Awards including best director.

Halloween scares are nearly here.
With Hollywood studios and SoCal theme parks shifting towards horror and scares for Halloween, America’s largest horror film festival, Screamfest Horror Film Festival, just announced its first wave of films to be showcased from October 10-19 at the Tcl Chinese in Hollywood.
Additionally, Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) was named as this year’s festival ambassador.
“I am extremely honored to serve as this year’s Screamfest ambassador,” said Monaghan in a press release. “I applaud Screamfest and its founder and festival director Rachel Belofsky for embracing the work of filmmakers and actors in the horror genre. I’m a big fan of this space, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of a fest that truly acknowledges unique and creative work.”

Exclusive: In a tantalising development to emerge from the Bam market in Colombia this week, the studio is in discussions on the period comedy with the team behind Mexican smash The Noble Family.
Producer Leonardo Zimbron of Traziende Films will reunite with the hit comedy’s director Gaz Alazraki, who is adapting William Sutcliffe’s original screenplay The Brothers Hufffington Fffyne.
Los Hermanos Marquez Castillo centres on two brothers who fight for their father’s inheritance and will mark the second feature from Alazraki, who will produce alongside Zimbron, Avelino Rodriguez, Marco Polo Constandse and Mexico’s Filmadora.
The Noble Family (Nosotros Los Nobles, pictured) grossed close to $30m in Mexico via Warner Bros in 2013 and generated 7.1million admissions to rank as Mexico’s second biggest box office hit behind No Instructions Included.

Guadalajara, Mexico -- Pantelion has acquired U.S. rights to distribute the Mexican hit Get Married If You Can (Casese Quien Pueda) via DVD and other platforms. Released in Mexico by Televisa subsidiary Videocine, Get Married has grossed about $12 million after five weeks in cinemas. The stateside release is slated for June. Directed by first-time helmer Marco Polo Constandse, Get Married is the latest in a string of successful comedies over the past year in Mexico. Famous Mexican actress Martha Higadera (Amar Te Duele) decided to write a romantic comedy for a Valentine's Day release, and now it is a reality called Get Married If You Can (Cásese Quien Pueda), directed by first-timer Marco Polo Constandse and starring Higareda herself. The movie works from a very basic premise and uses the rom-com formula to an annoying result. The story is about Ana (Higareda), a young spoiled woman who finds out that her fiancé cheated on her just before their weeding.
