John Carpenter's 1982 remake of "The Thing" is, like many of Carpenter's movies, possessed of a nihilistic streak. The titular Thing is a living mass of alien tissues, existing without form, able to invade a host, consume it, and replicate it down to its very brain functions. It can look and sound like anyone. The Thing doesn't appear to be intelligent and lives only to consume and perpetuate itself. Carpenter's film is set at a remote Antarctic outpost populated by bored, surly, mostly bearded men, tired of their isolated job and only barely staving off mind-crushing boredom. When the Thing infiltrates their ranks, paranoia immediately takes over, and the characters all begin suspecting one another. Only the stalwart pilot MacReady (Kurt Russell) holds it together enough to seek out the creature in a logical fashion.
By the end of the film, most of the outpost will be burned down, and...

Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is a very, very silly show.
Don’t get me wrong. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is exactly the sort of silly show you should be expecting from a series called She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It’s broad, bright and eager to serve the audience with a wink and a nudge. It’s loose to the point of near formlessness, boasting a clear theme and a savvy feminist streak, but it doesn’t seem to even be aspiring to stakes or a distinctive style.
Based on the four half-hour episodes sent to critics, She-Hulk is more Ally McBeal than The Good Fight, as legally focused comedies go, closer to the sort of relentlessly meta tweaking of classic sitcom tropes characteristic of the early episodes of WandaVision than the darker, richer undercurrents characteristic of the later episodes. One of the standout films from this year’s Tribeca Film Festival was All the Streets Are Silent, a documentary about the intersection between skateboarding and hip-hop in New York in the 1980s and Nineties. On paper, 1990s East Coast hip-hop has been dissected ad infinitum in countless books, TV shows and films — for a certain age, the culture defined their teenage years more than anything else.
But director Jeremy Elkin, a veteran of skate films who grew up (and continues to be) obsessed with hip-hop, finds fresh material in...

Synopsis: The streets of N.Y. might be temporarily silent, but in downtown Manhattan in the early 90’s, they were the site of a dynamic collision between two vibrant subcultures: skateboarding and hip hop. Jeremy Elkin’s documentary, All The Streets Are Silent, narrated by Eli Morgan Gesner, brings to life the magic of this time period and the convergence that created an urban style and visual language that would have an outsized and lasting cultural effect. If Paris Is Burning and Kids had a baby, you’d have this documentary love letter to New York—examining race, society, fashion and street culture—and full of archival footage featuring legendary characters and figures from the downtown scene. Featuring Rosario Dawson, Harold Hunter, Justin Pierce, Keith Hufnagel, Darryl McDaniels (Run-d.M.C.), Jefferson Pang, Bobbito Garcia, Stretch Armstrong, Kool Keith, Leo Fitzpatrick, Mike Hernandez, DJ Clark Kent, Kid Capri, Mike Carroll,...

Exclusive: All the Streets Are Silent, a documentary portrait of the skateboarding and hip-hop scenes in New York in the late 1980s and early ’90s, has been acquired by Greenwich Entertainment.
The U.S. rights deal precedes the film’s world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June. The film will be released in theaters on July 23.
Jeremy Elkin is making his feature directing debut with All the Streets Are Silent, which is described as “a love letter to New York” blending elements of Paris Is Burning and Larry Clark’s Kids.
Between the city’s rebound from near-ruin in the 1970s and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Lower Manhattan was home to the thriving subcultures of skateboarding and hip-hop. Their convergence would give rise to modern street style. Eli Gesner, founder of skateboard gear and fashion brand Zoo York, will narrate the film. Hip-hop producer Large Professor, known...

Netflix has released a full trailer for their upcoming animated series Stretch Armstrong and The Flex Fighters. The series was inspired by the classic late 70's-early 80's action figure that kids could stretch. The series has a very different kind of tone and vibe as the original toy, but it looks like a fun series that the kids will enjoy.
The story follows a high school student named Jake Armstrong and his two best friends Nathan Park and Ricardo Perez and they are accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical that forever changes their lives. They are transformed into unlikely heroes who embark on a series of adventures.
Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President, Hasbro Inc. previously had this to say in a statement:

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Hasbro's upcoming animated series Stretch Armstrong and the Freedom Fighters. The series was inspired by the classic stretchable action figure from the late 70's-early 80's. I had one of the toys when I was a kid, and although the first part of the trailer touches on that classic toy, this series is going to be something very different. It's a series that looks like it could be fun for the kids. Watch the trailer and you'll see what I mean.

I'm sure some of you remember the classic Hasbro toy Stretch Armstrong, which first came out in the late 70s. I remember having one of the toys when I was growing up in the 80s. It was a toy of a superhero that could stretch. At one point, Hasbro was looking at adapting Stretch Armstrong into a feature film and Taylor Lautner was attached to star. Thankfully that didn't happen.
Instead, Hasbro opted to adapt the toy into an animated series called Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters and that series is coming to Netflix.

Animated series Stretch Armstrong And The Flex Fighters is due to hit Netflix in November. Here's your first proper look at it...
A few years back, Hasbro were hankering for a movie version of Stretch Armstrong to grace the big screen. It was part of a bunch of properties they were developing, along with various board games and toy lines. They even linked Twilight's Taylor Lautner to the lead role, and tapped Breck Eisner to direct. At this point, it looks like that project is a lost cause.

A wealth of possibilities breeds dread, but that doesn’t stop us from endlessly browsing Netflix in search of something new to watch. The streaming giant is now making that both easier and more difficult with the introduction of interactive movies and shows that essentially function as choose-your-own-adventure stories, like the just-released “Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale.”

We first got word that Max Steel, the big screen adaption of Mattel’s popular line of action figures, was coming our way in 2009, but expired rights, original star Taylor Lautner jumping ship to headline another movie based on a toy (Stretch Armstrong if you’re wondering), and not knowing when to actually release it kept the movie on the shelf till now. Production finished at the start of Summer 2014, but we’re only now getting our first trailer and an October 21st release (in America. We’re still waiting to hear about this side of the pond). The movie is an original story through and through, with teenager Max McGrath (Ben Winchell) moving back to the town where he was born, where he is blasted with a mysterious energy while looking into the secret past of his father, who died shortly after Max was born. Discovering he can now manipulate energy,...

Netflix have announced that Stretch Armstrong will be getting his own TV series starting in 2017. The iconic toy, which started out in the 1970s, is a key feature of many current Netflix watchers’ childhoods.
Remember him? The blonde, overly tanned macho toy you used to fight over with a sibling? Well he’s back.
Now fans will be able to relive the old days, and introduce their favourite childhood toy to the next generation.
The animated series is picking up an eight year idea, which was originally meant for Armstrong to appear on the big screen, although plans for the 3-D film were scrapped. Instead, Hasbro Studios have created an animated action/comedy series which focuses on the life of teenager Jake Armstrong and his two friends.
The trio feature in the 26 episode long debut series, where they are accidentally exposed to a chemical, giving them the ability to stretch.

A newly-announced Netflix series is harkening back to the 1970s. The streaming platform will distribute a Hasbro Studios program inspired by the classic toy Stretch Armstrong.
Stretch Armstrong was first manufactured in 1976, with its original version remaining in production until 1980. The toy’s arms and legs were filled with gel, allowing kids to pull them and contort them into various shapes. Versions of the toy were available until 1997, when it was discontinued.
As Variety notes, the Stretch Armstrong series will be Hasbro Studios’ first partnership with Netflix. The show will add to the streaming video platforms strong library of kids’ programming, which also includes several collaborations with DreamWorks. Other distributors have also combined 70s nostalgia with children’s programming to create shows that both kids and their parents can enjoy; Amazon, for example, is planning a series from legendary showrunners Sid and Marty Krofft.

Wistful for your youth? Fear not! Hollywood continues to mine our memories and is bringing back many of our favorite childhood friends!
• Expanding its universe even further, Netflix has announced a new children’s show based on the 1970s toy sensation Stretch Armstrong. The Wrap reports that Netflix is teaming with Hasbro Studios for the 26-episode series, which apparently has nothing to do with the Taylor Lautner film that was talked about for a minute.
• Speaking of throwbacks, DreamWorks has released the first teaser trailer for its film Trolls, which is based on the doll sensation from the ’60s (which is seemingly revived every generation). Check it out here!

Oh man, when I was a kid, I would always go to my friend's house and we'd play with the various toys he had but the one that always fascinated me was Stretch Armstrong. It was just so cool. There was nothing else like him, at that time. I wasn't the only one to think that either. Over the years, Stretch Armstrong has become something of a cult favorite to most adults.
It's not going to be just an adult favorite for much longer.
Hasbro is teaming up with Netflix to release a brand new Stretch Armstrong animated kids series called Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters!

Once upon, there were plans for a Stretch Armstrong movie, and it was going to star Taylor Lautner and everyone except those making it seemed to strongly believe it was all a bad idea. Well, that concept eventually died a slow inevitable death, and there was a Stretch Armstrong void that existed in the world. Not any more though. Netflix is stepping up to the plate to fill... I have a single Stretch Armstrong memory. Many years ago, I was given a Stretch Armstrong toy that, according to the commercials, could stretch and bend in all kinds of ways before returning to his regular shape. I played with it for about 45 minutes and then it broke and splattered a strange, horrible goo […]

Continuing its investment in original content for kids of all ages, Netflix Inc., the world's leading Internet TV network, is adding three new original series to its lineup. The one that caught my eye out of the three was Stretch Armstrong. The iconic Hasbro brand Stretch Armstrong will make its television debut with an all-new look in an animated series.
The animated action/comedy series is about an overscheduled teenager Jake Armstrong and his two best friends. When the trio are accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical, they become Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, a team of unlikely superheroes who expand beyond the confines of their lives and embark on a series of adventures. The 26 episode series marks the first time Hasbro Studios is creating original programming for Netflix and will be available to members in late 2017.

"Stretch Armstrong" was a large, gel-filled action figure, introduced in 1976 by toy manufacturer Kenner, with arms and legs that could stretch outwards without breaking.
The doll was re-issued in the 1990's from Cap Toys, with a canine sidekick 'Fetch Armstrong' and a brother named "Evil X-Ray Wretch Armstrong', with stretching arms and a grimacing skullhead.
Other similar releases were 'Stretch Monster',...

Netflix is expanding its content for children with three new original series being added to its lineup.
The most notable is "Stretch Armstrong," an animated series based on the iconic Hasbro toy. Twenty-six episodes are being produced about Jake Armstrong and his two best friends who are accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical which turns them into Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters.
Armed with the powers of elongation, the trio will stretch their adventures across twenty-six episodes in the first piece of original programming for Netflix made by Hasbro.
Also on the way is the animated series "Lalaloopsy" about six friends who venture through a whimsical world with their pets, and Paula Yoo's live-action series "The Greenhouse" about a Southern California boarding school where students are divided into two rival houses when an evil plot is discovered.

UPDATED 9:02 p.m. PT Feb. 21
NEW YORK -- Universal Pictures and Hasbro announced Wednesday a six-year strategic partnership to produce at least four feature films based on some of Hasbro's best-known game and toy brands, including Monopoly, Candy Land, Clue, Ouija, Battleship, Magic, the Gathering and Stretch Armstrong.
Hasbro will partner exclusively with Universal for feature films, with the exception of "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe", which are at DreamWorks and Paramount.
The first film emerging from the deal will be released in 2010 or 2011, and Universal will release at least one film a year after that. Hasbro is co-financing script development with Universal and has the option of co-funding production of the films. Hasbro will retain all merchandising rights to the brands, and the companies will share in consumer products revenue generated by the movies.
"For us, this is a really big and important strategic win," Universal chairman Marc Shmuger said. "We've been trying to figure out for really quite a long time how we can get better access to bigger brands and more popular intellectual property, and Hasbro represents some of the most exciting and popular brands in the world."
Shmuger said Universal and Hasbro still are working out which brand will be the first project developed, but sources said it's likely to be Monopoly or Ouija.
