Joe Mantegna often is seen calling the shots on "Criminal Minds," but that's more the case than ever this week.
The veteran actor, who plays FBI Supervisory Special Agent David Rossi on the long-running CBS drama, also directs the show for the first time Wednesday (Jan. 22). Titled "The Road Home," the story references a 2012 tale about Rossi's former Marine sergeant (again played by guest star Meshach Taylor), whose disappearance separates Rossi from the rest of the Behavioral Analysis Unit as he launches a search.
"They knew I'd directed before," Mantegna tells Zap2it of being offered the chance by the "Criminal Minds" producers. "I directed a feature years ago called 'Lakeboat,' and our executive producer Erica [Messer] had seen it. Matthew Gray Gubler has directed the show several times, and Thomas Gibson directed his first episode last season ... so she said, 'We'd like you to do one if you'd like to.

Lifetime moves on with its plan to have a spin-off to "Army Wives", casting Gabrielle Union as a lead character. The network will also debut some sort of a backdoor pilot to the original series later this year.
The spin-off which is yet to get a title will center on Brigid Brannagh's Pamela who is now divorced from her Delta Force soldier husband. Upon being single, Pamela takes back her old job as an Atlanta cop and her partner is Union's Detective Gina Holt.
"Army Wives" is in the middle of its fourth season, the embedded storyline to the potential series will play out toward the end, which is this month. "Army Wives" scribes Bruce Zimmerman and T.D. Mitchell are attached to create the new series.
Gabrielle Union had not much luck in the last two TV projects that she took. Both "Life" and "FlashForward" were cut short before...

Variety has reported that Lifetime is looking to spin off its successful 'Army Wives' drama. The project, which is still in the nascent stages of development, will be created by 'Wives' writers, Bruce Zimmerman and T.D. Mitchell, and will focus on Brigid Brannagh's character, Pamela Moran.
The new series would position Pamela as divorced from Chase, her elite "Delta Force" husband, and re-joining the ranks of her old Charleston, S.C. police force.
Last September, Lifetime posted a "Which 'Wife' Should Get a Spin Off'" thread on its message boards. Pamela and Sally Pressman's single mom/bartender "Roxy," were cited most often as the characters viewers would like to see on a new show. Does this mean Roxy will be next? Stay tuned, true believers.
