- Best remembered for her TV role of Mrs Greenlaw, the housekeeper, in BBC's All Creatures Great and Small (1978).
- Had one son: Simon Bell.
- Had a long career in both provincial and West End theatre and worked with leading directors such as Laurence Olivier, Frank Dunlop and Joan Kemp-Welch.
- Trained at the Northern Theatre School and went on to work with leading repertory companies throughout the UK.
- Acclaimed at the Young Vic in London, she played Goneril in "King Lear", Emilia in "Othello" and Paulina in "The Winter's Tale"; Laurence Olivier later directed her as Katherine in the National Theatre's production of "Love's Labours Lost".
