Ben (Mekhi Phifer) and some men celebrate the new year at a club where they also beat up a man. 11 months later The beaten man, Mark (Roy Werner) wants to make a deal with assistant Us Attorney, Denning, (Brian Howe) in exchange for his testimony on mobster Elliot Greene (Michael Harney). Mark also wants his mistress in protective custody with him. Outside the safehouse, Mark is shot and killed by a sniper. Cal (Tim Roth) walks into Gillian's (Kelli Williams) office and closes the blinds. He informs her and Ben of what's happened. Cal knows everything about Ben, just like Ben knows everything about Cal. A cross-cultural romantic comedy, "Loco Love" tells the story of a Beverly Hills restaurateur who finds himself having to share living quarters with his former Mexican gardener.
While this "Bringing Down the Casa" bears many of the telltale signs of a novice director (Bryan Lewis), the cheap and cheerful picture has its humorous moments thanks to Steven P. Baer's broad but buoyant script and a supporting cast of character actors who know how to hit a good line home.
When snooty Donald Chandler (Roy Werner) is dumped by his spoiled wife (Margaret Scarborough), he also loses his eatery, which has been bankrolled by his mother-in-law (Barbara Eden).
As luck would have it, on that very same day, his gardener, Miguel (Gerardo Mejia), wins the lottery, but instead of telling his about-to-be-former-boss where he can stuff his leaf-blower, he makes him an offer that's hard to refuse.
If Donald marries Catalina (Laura Elena Harring), Miguel's beautiful but hot-tempered sister, so that she can get her green card, Miguel will bankroll Donald's new restaurant. Donald agrees, Miguel and his family move in and, little by little, though it's not part of the plan, Donald and Catalina start warming up to each other.
Things admittedly begin to get a little clunky script-wise when they turn more romantic than comedic but the cast is there to pick up some of the loose ends.
