Alex Walkinshaw is leaving 'Casualty' to join 'Holby City'. The 39-year-old actor - who has played hunky nurse Adrian 'Fletch' Fletcher in the BBC medical drama since 2012 - will see his alter-ego turn his back on the Emergency Department to pursue a career in the main hospital wards. Speaking on ITV's 'Lorraine' this morning (01.04.14), he said: ''My 'Casualty' days are over.'' The father-of-four is set to leave with a bang after he's forced to deal with the consequences of his steamy affair with clinical manager Tess Bateman (Suzanne Packer). Alex explained: ''His relationship with Tess all comes back up...

Alex Walkinshaw has praised his former co-stars on The Bill for helping him settle into Casualty. Michael Obiora, Charles Dale, Matt Bardock and Jane Hazlegrove, all former cast members on the ITV police drama, now play medical staff on the hospital series. Of reuniting with his former colleagues, Walkinshaw told Pa: "It did take the pressure off because it meant that if I did have a panic I knew I could shoot off, find someone and say, 'I don't know what I'm doing'. And they'd go, 'You're right, you don't', and then (more)...

Waterloo Road star Alex Walkinshaw is joining the cast of Casualty, it has been announced. The actor has signed up for the role of Adrian 'Fletch' Fletcher, a new nurse for Holby's Emergency Department. Walkinshaw is leaving his role as Waterloo Road's Jez Diamond and will begin filming at Casualty's new home in Cardiff later this month. Speaking of his character Fletch, Walkinshaw commented: "He's the ultimate cheeky chappy - the kind of entertaining bloke you'd really want to go down the pub and have a laugh with, whether you're male or female. "He's into football, rugby, beer and beautiful women - only to flirt with and admire, though - he's a devoted family man which just makes him all the more attractive. Personally, I can't wait to get to know him better myself!" (more)...

Waterloo Road's Alex Walkinshaw has said that his character Jez is "under a lot of pressure" in the opening episodes of the new series. Ex-Bill star Walkinshaw revealed that the Pe teacher is the prime suspect in the hit-and-run on headmaster Michael Byrne (Alec Newman). "Since Michael's hit and run all fingers are pointed at Jez," he told What's on TV. He feels under a lot of pressure and is very frustrated. "Everyone he works with at school sees him as the main suspect. He thinks they should come out and say it instead of gossiping behind his back." Explaining why Jez will continue to lie about his alibi, the actor said: "He told Sian (Jaye Jacobs) he was at the gym, as he doesn't want her to know he was at Janeece's (more)...

Waterloo Road's new recruit Jaye Jacobs has praised the positive atmosphere on the show's set, revealing how much she enjoys working with screen husband Alex Walkinshaw. Jacobs and Walkinshaw were recently cast as newlyweds Sian and Jez Diamond, who take up respective positions in the science and Pe departments in the latest run of episodes. "We giggle constantly - and far too much on set," Jacobs told TV Times of her working relationship with Walkinshaw. "It's weird for me playing a wife because I've never been a wife in real life. "But Alex is great and says, 'Come on, don't be shy. It's all going to be fine!'" Jacobs added that she prefers Sian's wardrobe to the scrubs she had to wear for her previous role as (more)...

Waterloo Road newcomer Alex Walkinshaw has admitted that he was "petrified" on his first day of filming with the show. The actor, best known for his long-running role as Smithy on The Bill, was cast as Pe teacher Jez Diamond earlier this year after Paul Nicholls left the part unexpectedly. Viewers will see Jez for the first time on Wednesday as he is introduced along with his wife Sian (Jaye Jacobs) and other new recruits at the school. Walkinshaw told TV Choice of his early moments on set: "I haven't had a 'first day' in nearly 10 years, which is ridiculous for an actor, and I was petrified. The Bill was a real family unit, everyone was tight. "On my first day on the set of Waterloo Road I was really quiet, but on my second day, the entire cast started taking the mickey out of me. ITV has confirmed that it will broadcast a documentary looking back at The Bill on the night the police drama comes to an end. The long-running show was axed in March after a fall in ratings following a timeslot change and last year's revamp. The Sun Hill-based drama's final episode, titled 'Respect', will air at the end of month and will be followed by one-hour special Farewell The Bill. The special promises to take a look back at the show's history and go behind the scenes as the cast and crew film the final two-parter. Castmembers including Alex Walkinshaw (Smithy), Simon Rouse (Spt Jack Meadows) and Chris Simmons (DC Mickey Webb) will "talk exclusively" about their time on the show. (more)...

Alex Walkinshaw admits it's hard to get his head around 'The Bill' ending. The actor - who has played Inspector Dale 'Smithy' Smith for over 10 years - struggled to understand why the ITV police series was being culled, because viewing figures were good and the programme was well received. He said: ''If the show was doing badly or as a whole wasn't very good it would be easier to deal with. But it's actually performing well and the product is good so that's hard to get your head around. But business is business - it is the way of the world ..

ITV has confirmed that it is dropping police drama The Bill after 27 years on air. According to The Guardian, the decision comes after last year's revamp and move to a 9pm slot failed to alter sliding ratings. The show, which is based in fictional station Sun Hill, switched from two weekly shows at 8pm to a single 9pm episode last July. It was the first time that the programme had aired in a post-watershed slot, which encouraged "darker, grittier and more hard-hitting" storylines. However, ratings fell to an average of 3.5 million, a significant drop from the 7 million who tuned in in 2002. It currently employs 19 main cast members, including Simon Rouse (Di Jack Meadows), Alex Walkinshaw (Inspector Dale 'Smithy' Smith) and DS Stevie Moss (Lucy Speed). The broadcaster claimed that the decision (more)...

We mentioned a rumor that the annual BBC charity special for Children in Need this year might feature a reunion of previous doctors along with the current Doctor, David Tennant. Now London’s Telegraph is report that the seven surviving actors who have played the Doctor will be reunited for the special, to air November 14.
An insider at the BBC told the paper, "It's a pretty ambitious idea and it's still being finalized. Everything is being kept under wraps but Doctor Who fans are in for a big treat."
The Doctor has been seen on the special for the last several years and the producers have carefully woven his short escapade into the current dramatic series continuity. Last year, for example, saw Peter Davison meet Tennant.
Reportedly joining those two will be Tom Baker, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann and Tennant’s predecessor in the current revival, Christopher Eccleston.
