There are movies that make you want one thing more than anything else: for whatever's happening on the screen to end as quickly as possible.
Reddit users selected popular movies that made them want just that.
1. Saltburn, 2023
In 2020, Emerald Fennell made her debut with the tragicomedy Promising Young Woman. The movie won her an Academy Award for Original Screenplay and gave endless opportunities to create her next project – Saltburn, a rip-off of The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The structure of the movie begins to fall apart in the middle as Oliver "skillfully" (actually clumsily) begins to work his way to the top. Many viewers positioned the movie as one of the most scandalous of the year – Saltburn undoubtedly shocks with some scenes (we feel sorry for every cemetery worker who's seen it), but seasoned viewers were tired of its extreme predictability.

Normally, the summer movie season would kick off with a Marvel superhero movie, but this May, we’re doing things a little differently. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
This year and for the first time since the pandemic, Marvel isn’t launching the month of May. Instead, Universal jumped on the date for its new action comedy “The Fall Guy,” loosely based on the popular ’80s series starring Lee Majors. Two of the Oscar-nominated stars from last year’s blockbuster “Barbenheimer” phenom unite for this new action rom-com from filmmaker David Leitch (“Bullet Train”). Those stars, of course, are Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who were nominated for Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan‘s Best Picture-winning “Oppenheimer,” respectively, two of the biggest movies of 2023. “The Fall Guy” premiered at the SXSW Film and TV Festival and even played at the annual exhibitors’ convention, CinemaCon,...

Dneg, the London-headquartered visual effects and animation house that has won Oscars for the likes of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and has also worked on The Last of Us and season 4 of Stranger Things, among others – unveiled the launch of a new unit dubbed Dneg 360, which is operated by real-time production firm Dimension Studio.
The partners also unveiled what they described as “two of the world’s largest LED volume stages” in London and Rome.
Dneg and Dimension initially struck a joint venture deal in 2021 to partner on virtual production services. Dneg 360 expands on the partnership to also include visualization, content creation, and development services.
“This expanded offering provides clients with an end-to-end production partnership and a seamless transition through development, pre-production and virtual production into visual effects and post for feature film and episodic projects, advertising, music videos and more,” Dneg said.

Josh Brolin contradicts previous reports that writer-director Christopher McQuarrie is involved in Sicario 3.
The plans for a third Sicario film seem to change with the wind, or at least change with the rather unstable foundations of film production, given how turbulent the last few years have been for the industry.
We first heard back in summer of 2022 that a third entry in the well-regarded series was on the way. One of the series’ stars, Josh Brolin, was out and about promoting his western/sci-fi TV series, Outer Range, and he had this to say: “It’s been written and it’s been rewritten. So it’s out there. We think it deserves a third one if we can make it in the way that we want to make it”.
However, a year later he seemed less optimistic about the film’s chances of happening, saying, “these types of movies...

"Dune: Part Two" is one of the best movies of 2024 and it actually makes the first "Dune" movie from director Denis Villeneuve even better. So it only makes sense that the Lego set inspired by one of the franchise's signature vehicles is one of the best building brick vehicles they've ever produced.
The Lego "Dune" Atreides Royal Ornithopter set brings the aerial vehicle to life with incredible engineering and an impressive wingspan. Lego Designer Michael Psiaki developed it for over a year before getting in touch with Warner Bros. Pictures about releasing the Lego set, which then allowed him to collaborate with production designer Patrice Vermette to ensure that the Lego vehicle was as accurate as possible in building brick form.
Lego sent over their "Dune" Ornithopter set for us to build ourselves, and with a 31-inch wingspan and deployable landing gear, this Lego set was significantly more challenging to build than I originally anticipated.

Summary:
Good Doctor is a 2013 South Korean series that follows the career and interpersonal struggles of an autistic medical prodigy. In 2017, ABC premiered an American remake of the show, which lasted for 7 seasons before being canceled in 2024. Although the show was able to continue for 7 seasons, many viewers believe that the Korean version is superior to the American version.
One thing about remakes that just about everyone can agree on is that they are rarely as good as the original. Of course, there are some exceptions, like Denis Villeneuve's Dune, but the majority of cinematic remakes are considered unnecessary, if not an insult to the original story.
The same rule applies to TV series. While there are more quality remakes on television than on the big screen, there are also more failures. The most recent and notorious example is Netflix's attempt to give a second chance to the 2007 teen hit Gossip Girl,...

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “Challengers.”]
Zendaya is admitting that yes, the ending of “Challengers” can be considered “confusing,” especially since her own mother had an entirely different take on it than she did.
The actress told New York Times journalist Kyle Buchanan that it makes sense why the ambiguous final scene can be “confusing” for audiences.
“My mom read the ending so different[ly]. My mom is like, ‘She’s pissed because they realize that they don’t need her anymore,'” Zendaya said in an interview excerpt tweeted by Buchanan. “I was like, ‘But I smile a little bit at the end!'”
The final sequence captures Tashi (Zendaya) watching as her almost-retired husband Art (Mike Faist) and his former best friend Patrick (Josh O’Connor) embrace on the tennis court without a winner being announced. Tashi screams “Come on!” from the sidelines, harkening back to her own teen U.S. Open win before she...

After altering his voice to play the king of rock and roll in "Elvis," Austin Butler made a dramatic shift by portraying the heartless Harkonnen warrior Feyd-Rautha in "Dune: Part Two." It's a choice that worked out well, as even though the star's latest performance also came with an on-screen voice that demands further examination, Butler proved he was just as adept at playing cruel and cunning as he was at transforming into iconic musical figures of the 20th century.
The nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Feyd-Rautha was a big part of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel on which the "Dune" films are based. In the book, protagonist Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet in the modern films) returns to the capital of Arrakis and faces off against Feyd-Rautha in a final battle — one which was brought to life for the big screen by director Denis Villeneuve and his production team for "Dune: Part Two.

Canadian director Denis Villeneuve has done the impossible: turned Frank Herbert's complex and intense sci fi novel Dune into two popular and critically acclaimed films.
The success of the first two movies will probably mean more Dune on the horizon, and there's plenty of material available in Frank Herbert's six books.
However, even Villeneuve couldn't pull off these 5 wild moments from the novels.
The Chairdogs
In the novel Heretics of Dune, Frank Herbert introduced a bizarre furniture-animal hybrid. They're called 'chairdogs', and they're exactly what they sound like: a bioengineered combination of a chair and a dog.
The point of chairdogs is that they are designed to massage you while you sit in them, though if that actually sounds appealing to you I have a few questions about your taste (and your criminal history).
It's hard to imagine that Dune 3 will feature chairdogs, not because they're too complicated for...

It's a good thing that "Sicario" is often cited as the best Denis Villeneuve movies, seeing as the director, cast, and crew apparently risked their lives to make it. Imagine putting yourself through life-threatening situations just to witness the poor reviews roll in and the almighty Tomatometer bestow an abject splat upon your film. Thankfully, "Sicario" currently stands at a muscular 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the third highest-rated of Villeneuve's films on the website, behind "Arrival" and "Dune: Part Two."
But without "Sicario," those other two blockbusters arguably wouldn't exist. This was the movie that established Villeneuve as a director capable of balancing human drama with large-scale action and set him on a course to shepherd the big-budget movies he's now known for. As "Dune: Part Two" crosses box office milestone after box office milestone, "Sicario" still stands as the movie that made it all possible.

A pair of Warner Bros. releases have achieved some important box office milestones.
“Dune: Part Two,” the acclaimed adaptation of Frank Herbert’s monumental sci-fi novel, has passed $700 million worldwide, while “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” the latest installment in the long-running monster franchise, eclipsed $500 million at the global box office. Both films were produced in partnership with Legendary Entertainment.

Now that "Dune: Part Two" has arrived and passed multiple box office milestones, director Denis Villeneuve can claim to have done the impossible and successfully adapted Frank Herbert's "unfilmable" 1965 novel. 2021's "Dune" and the sequel's critical and commercial triumphs are well-earned, too, with Villeneuve and his team delivering a truly epic sci-fi two-parter that immerses viewers in a world that feels at once alien and believably real.
The Oscar-winning effects in "Dune" and its sequel create an impressive sense of scale, but they're also remarkable for achieving such a feat without making the films feel akin to the blockbuster CGI-fests we're used to in the modern age. Villeneuve, cinematographer Greig Fraser, and production designer Patrice Vermette managed to craft a world that feels visceral and convincing throughout, despite the heavy use of visual effects. Of course, filming on location in the deserts of Jordan and Abu Dhabi helped a lot in that regard,...

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are the two prominent Hollywood names that stand out above the rest. Having said that, with their inventive storytelling and huge hits, they have collectively transformed the movie business. Indeed, these visionaries have a profound impact on the cinematic universe, but when it comes to handling their beloved creations post-release, their paths diverge like a fork in the Yellow Brick Road.

The former feels that his films should remain true to the era in which they were made, unlike Lucas, who is renowned for updating and improving his works digitally.

While Steven Spielberg had already done 15 short films by the time he was 18, George Lucas’ Thx 1138, which was screened at the University of California, blew his filmography out of the water. Although Spielberg was left a little envious of the Star Wars director’s work, it didn’t take them long to see eye to eye, eventually developing a decades-long friendship,
Since then, the two have remained pretty supportive of each other, and are responsible for pioneering the blockbuster landscape back in the ’70s. But while Lucas helped out the Jaws director on numerous occasions, things went a little south when Spielberg decided to follow in the sci-fi auteur’s footsteps for one of his most beloved gems.

Most of today’s audience, especially the young ones, recognize Matthew McConaughey as a great sci-fi actor mostly due to his performance in Christopher Nolan’s 2014 movie Interstellar. Yes, he was extremely convincing in the role of a strong-willed astronaut who travels through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for humanity.
However, back in 1997, long before starring in Nolan’s masterpiece, the actor took part in a science fiction feature, which gained iconic status among the genre’s lovers. Interestingly, McConaughey doesn’t play an astronaut, like in Interstellar, or some kind of a scientist, no, he’s definitely gonna surprise you with quite an unexpected role.
The movie’s plot revolves around a Seti scientist Dr. Arroway, who finds evidence of extraterrestrial life and then, fighting against skeptics and political games, proves it’s necessary to find a way for communication and further encounter with aliens.

Luca Guadagnino Says No Movie Should Have ‘90 Takes’ Per Scene: ‘Why Do You Have to Torture People?’
Many film directors, including the likes of David Fincher and Stanley Kubrick, openly believe in capturing endless takes of their actors as a way of giving space to the unexpected. But Luca Guadagnino is coming out against the philosophy. In a recent New York Times interview for “Challengers”, Guadagnino explained why he’s happy to walk away after one or two takes of a scene. “I hate pushing,” he said. “If it’s great, why do you have to torture people?”
“It’s exciting when you observe performance,” Guadagnino continued. “I will quit the moment in which I know that I’m going to be lazy or bored or I don’t have this energy of seeing performance happening — which, by the way, doesn’t need to take 90 takes. I think this movie is an average of one or two.”

Director Luca Guadagnino has a new box office record to celebrate this weekend, as his tennis-based romance "Challengers" is on track for an opening weekend north of $15 million -- the filmmaker's biggest debut ever. Admittedly that was quite a low bar to clear, since Guadagnino has built his career in smaller arthouse films with slow rollouts and/or limited releases. His previous biggest opening weekend was the 2022 cannibalism-based romance "Bones and All" ($2.2 million).
Still, "Challengers" has significantly outstripped box office projections, which had it pegged for an opening weekend between $7 million and $12 million. Deadline reports that star and producer Zendaya has been a major driving force behind the movie's performance, with 55% of PostTrak audiences polled saying that she was the main reason for seeing it. That's not too surprising; Zendaya shares the movie's central love triangle with Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor, but the marketing team was clearly aware that...

This post contains spoilers for the book "Dune: Messiah."
The adaptation of "Dune: Messiah" has already been approved, but we've long wondered just how the hell director Denis Villeneuve is going to pull it off. Not only is there a 12-year time jump, and not only are major characters like Jessica unceremoniously dropped from the narrative, but the book also features a lot of political feuding that will probably have to be cut for the movie to feel even vaguely comprehensible.
For screenwriter Jon Spaihts, however, there are plenty of reasons to stay optimistic. The big one is that "Dune: Part 2" has already made a ton of changes to the narrative to make a better transition into "Messiah," and he thinks those changes are going to pay off big time going forward. As he explained in a recent interview with Mashable:
"I think [author] Frank Herbert came away from...

Rian Johnson and Edgar Wright both think “Challengers” is a grand slam.
The two directors took to social media to praise Luca Guadagnino’s buzzy feature starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist as a tumultuous trio of tennis pros who may or may not all be harboring feelings for each other (they are.)
“So I loved loved Loved ‘Challengers’ – didn’t know what to expect, and walked out of the theater totally buzzing,” Johnson tweeted. “It’s smart and sophisticated while still poppy and propulsive, basically ‘Design For Living’ as a kick-ass sports movie. Seriously It’S So Good.”

As an actress and executive producer, Zendaya is already a multi-hyphenate, but she’s not quite ready to climb into a director’s chair. IndieWire reports (via The New York Times) that the “Challengers” star needs more time before she directs her first project. But when that day comes, Luca Guadagnino will say, “I told you so.”

“I’m overly conscious of everything else around me,” Zendaya told the publication in an interview for Guada’s new tennis drama, in theaters today. That’s when Guadagnino chimed in, “Because Z is a director. This article contains likely spoilers for Dune: Part Three as well as the books Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.
You are not prepared for what is to come. These are the words of promise, or prophecy, in Anya Taylor-Joy’s lone scene in Dune: Part Two. Whether the sequence is a kind of psychic chat room occurring between Paul “Muad’Dib” Atreides (Timothée Chalemet) and his unborn sister, Alia, or an actual vision of a conversation they will have in the future is obscure. Either way, the meeting seems otherworldly, not least of all because Paul and Alia are conversing on a beach. On Arrakis.
“Paul, you are not prepared for what is to come,” Alia warns. “You’ll now learn the truth about our family, and it will hurt you to the core.”

Zendaya may be an Emmy-winning actress and executive producer, but she’s biding time before stepping behind the camera as a director.

In Challengers, everyone is obsessed with Zendaya. Or, at least, her character Tashi Duncan. “She’s gonna turn her whole family into millionaires,” says Josh O’Connor’s young tennis champ Patrick Zweig, to old friend and doubles partner Art Donaldson (Mike Faist). “She’ll have a fashion line, a foundation.” It’s easy to see why they’re in awe. Duncan is a world-class player, brand ambassador, and the object of both their affections. And with regards to ambition, ability, and enormous success at a young age, they could just as easily be talking about Zendaya herself – a star who, over the past few years, has been executing her own Tashi-esque world domination. So far, she’s moved from kids’ TV star to being a part of some of the biggest movies on the planet. With Challengers, though, she’s taking things to a whole other level.

Brian Helgeland has been discussing his script for Sony’s aborted take on Cleopatra which was set to star Angelina Jolie…
Cleopatra is one of those iconic figures that Hollywood seems perpetually interested in bringing to the screen again, even if the vast majority of these projects never seem to get anywhere.
One of the other nearly-ran Cleopatra projects was set to feature Angelina Jolie back in 2011. Writer and director Brian Helgeland has been chatting about his time on the project as the first writer to get a crack at the script. According to the director of Payback and A Knight’s Tale, it would have included some surprising events, apparently rooted in history:

This April sees Zendaya cross a milestone it honestly feels like she should have reached ages ago: a legitamite leading role in a theatrical film. The actor has been one of the biggest stars of Generation Z and a much hyped starlet for years now, and yet a quick glance at her Wikipedia page reveals a shockingly short resume.
The Oakland born star’s adult film career, after a childhood in the Disney Channel machine leading sitcoms like “Shake It Up” and “Kc Undercover,” really only started in 2017, with a brief supporting turn in Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Opposite her eventual real-life boyfriend Tom Holland, she only had a scant 10 minutes or so of screentime as the sarcastic teen Mj — hardly a star is born moment, despite what the advertising for the film would have you expect.
Zendaya would reprise her role in future Spider-Man films, and her screentime increased with each installment.

Hollywood has been trying to get another Cleopatra movie off the ground for quite some time, and one of those iterations was set to star Angelina Jolie as the iconic Egyptian Queen.

Helgeland continued, saying the movie “had elements of a political thriller with assassinations and sex,” but at its heart, it was an epic split between Cleopatra’s love affairs with Caesar and Mark Antony. “Lots of true events surprised me when I was writing it. For example,...

Angelina Jolie’s scrapped “Cleopatra” movie was part romance epic and part “political thriller with assassinations and sex,” according to the movie’s original screenwriter Brian Helgeland. The Oscar-winning actor was set to play the Egyptian queen in a tentpole for Sony Pictures that once courted director David Fincher to helm. It never got off the ground.

“Dune” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has a lot of options for what he could make next, and one of them could be his long-gestating “Cleopatra” movie based on the Stacy Schiff novel “Cleopatra: A Life” for Sony Pictures.
Before that, however, some may remember the era when filmmaker David Fincher had a version of the movie set up at Paramount, circa 2012, that would have starred Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie (long before the competing Gal Gadot incarnation with Patty Jenkins and Kari Skogland).

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the sci-fi epic fiction film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Stellar Skarsgard, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Christopher Walken. It’s a sequel to the 2021 film, based on Frank Herbert’s novel of the same name. Earlier, Denis confirmed Dune 3, which will be his last movie for the franchise.

In Dune 2, Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides transforms into a completely different person as he embodies the ‘Lisan al Gaib’ title. The shift in his personality, which becomes darker, shocks Zendaya’s Chani to the core. So, how exactly will it impact the threequel? Denis revealed how Chani’s rage...

Who loves Zendaya? Show of hands? Well if you do, and Amazon MGM Studios is betting that plenty of 18-24 olds do, you can watch the Euphoria Emmy winner in Imax in Amazon MGM Studio’s Challengers this weekend, then sit around and watch her again in Legendary/Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two.
The R-rated menage a trois tennis romantic comedy, Challengers, finally steps on the court this weekend after being pushed from its Sept. 15 release date due to the actors strike, with an eye at a $15M domestic opening at 3,400 locations, give or take. The pic will serve as a testament to Zendaya’s box office drawing power sans any attachments to major IP, read Dune or Spider-Man. Already working in the favor of the Luca Guadagnino directed, Amy Pascal produced movie are excellent reviews at 95% certified fresh. If this movie can truly breakout, it’s a win...

Long live Queen Cleopatra, even if her film adaptations have been plagued for more than half a century.
After Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s 1963 “Cleopatra” starring Elizabeth Taylor made history as one of the biggest box office disasters ever, a long-gestating adaptation was set with Angelina Jolie attached to star (and directors like David Fincher and Ang Lee being attached at different times). “A Knight’s Tale” and “Man on Fire” writer Brian Helgeland wrote the script, and while the film was “almost made,” it eventually fell by the wayside.
Now, Helgeland is recalling the details of the scrapped project in a new interview with Inverse. “I was the very first writer on ‘Cleopatra’ when it was being developed for Angelina Jolie to star in, which was almost made,” Helgeland said. “It had elements of a political thriller with assassinations and sex, but it’s an epic that’s divided between her...
