She played many housekeepers and was notable in the Noël Coward adaptation of 'The Astonished Heart' and as Grandma Huggett in the Huggett trilogy. She was equally effective as an occasional harridan, notably as the bed-ridden dowager Mrs. Winterbourne in Blanche Fury (1948).
