- He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Radio at 1560 Vine St. on 1/10/90.
- At the time of his death, he was living in Tarzana, ca, where he had served as the city's Honorary Mayor since 1977.
- Inducted into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 1999.
- Inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame on 11/8/08.
- Worked for KBIG until it changed formats, and then he moved to KRTH, another Los Angeles radio station. He stayed at KRTH until 2015.
- Held a Tunathon to raise money every year for Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He is credited with raising millions of dollars.
- Passed away on 2/19/16, two months away from what would have been his 72nd birthday on April 18.
- Had mostly German ancestry.
- Was at one time engaged to Los Angeles newscaster Tawny Little. If they had gotten married that would have made her Tawny Tuna.
