The social media embargo just lifted for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and it sounds like filmmaker George Miller has done it again. Given his phenomenal pedigree, we aren't surprised; does the prequel improve on 2015's classic Mad Max: Fury Road, though?
That was always going to be a tall order and, based on what we see below, it doesn't quite match the rights of that gloriously demented ride. In its own right, though, Furiosa's origin story sounds like a worthy addition to the long-running series which kicked off with 1979's Mad Max.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are receiving widespread praise for their work, with the latter's transformation once again making it clear there's more to him than playing the McU's God of Thunder in the Avengers and Thor franchises.
Tickets for Furiosa reportedly go on sale later today, so another trailer could be imminent. At the very least,...

The first reactions are here for George Miller’s latest venture into the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
The embargo broke for social media reactions to Furiosa, the eagerly anticipated prequel to the 2015 stunner Mad Max: Fury Road.
This new entry has Anya Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa (taking over for Charlize Theron) and Chris Hemsworth as a devious warlord in a story that takes place 15 years before the previous film.
Early social reactions (below) can sometimes be a bit different (typically more enthusiastic) than official critic reviews, and surely there are many more to come soon. But based on the first batch Monday evening, Furiosa is a visual stunner with “ferocious, wild and unrelenting” action and a story that “spans decades” and boosts strong performances from the two leads.
The question going into the movie’s Memorial Day weekend launch is whether Miller’s epic can jump start the Hollywood box office after a sluggish few months,...

The first reactions for George Miller’s “Furiosa” have trickled in on social media ahead of the movie’s world premiere later this month at the Cannes Film Festival, and it appears the “Mad Max: Fury Road” director has another amazing action epic on his hands.
“Brings me great joy to report that ‘Furiosa’ is really, really fucking good,” IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich wrote on X. “Operates in an extremely different gear than ‘Fury Road’ (in ways that i suspect will frustrate some people), but also manages to make that movie even richer while carving its own legend in the wasteland.”
Entertainment writer and New York Film Critics Circle member Esther Zuckerman called the film “great,” while Fandango’s Erik Davis called the movie “powerhouse action filmmaking at its absolute best.”

Samuel L. Jackson has portrayed Marvel’s Nick Fury for many years now. And even though many of marvel’s other heroes have gotten separate spin-off films, Jackson’s popular S.H.I.E.L.D. agent hasn’t. In the long run, the outspoken actor believed this to be a good thing.

A Nick Fury feature never occurred in the MCU, despite some of the franchise’s fans clamoring for one. Jackson has been very vocal about his character. He even questioned producers on why his character wasn’t featured in other Marvel films like Black Panther and Civil War.
“If all the Avengers are f***ing fighting each other, where’s their guardian? Where’s that dude who comes in and goes ‘Alright, everybody go to your rooms. I’ll...

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has finally unspooled for its first public audience at its Paris premiere. The three-hour historical drama stars Cillian Murphy and — like any Nolan release — is one of the more anticipated films of the year.
Now first reactions are coming in, from the premiere as well as from journalists who saw early screenings and can now share their social media reactions. Murphy stars as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the head of the World War II-era Manhattan Project that was responsible for the creation of the atomic bomb. The A-list cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Florence Pugh.
Formal reviews will come at a later date, but the early takes on social media suggest Nolan has delivered the goods with Oppenheimer.

Rihanna shone bright like a diamond during her Super Bowl Lvii half-time show, performing a slew of her greatest hits without any special guests or pyrotechnics.
The pop star was clad in a monochromatic red jumpsuit with matching latex molded breastplate.
She opened the show on a levitating platform centerfield with “Bitch Better Have My Money,” with the expletives bleeped out (this is national TV after all).

Taika Waititi may have spent his post-“Thor: Ragnarok” success winning a screenplay Oscar for “Jojo Rabbit,” but the writer and director returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with flying colors next month with “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
Reuniting with star Chris Hemsworth and with Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster, hopes are high for this next installment — and if initial reactions out of Thursday night’s LA premiere are any indication, the film does not disappoint.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” puts our hero up against one of his most formidable foes yet: Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) and powerful extraterrestrial hellbent on sending gods into extinction. He faces off with Gorr alongside Portman’s Foster, returning for the first time since 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World,” who also possesses the power of Thor. Tessa Thompson returns as Valkyrie, and the film co-stars “Guardians of the Galaxy” heavyweights Chris Pratt and others.

Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love and Thunder” has received thunderous Twitter praise.
The film hosted its red carpet premiere June 23 before debuting in theaters July 8, and critics took to social media to applaud the instant “classic” Marvel film.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” picks up after the fall of Asgard and the events of “Avengers: Endgame” with Chris Hemsworth reprising his titular role as the son of Odin. Tessa Thompson is also back as Valkyrie, as well as Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Waititi as Korg, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, making her return to the MCU in almost a decade since starring in 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World.” Yet this time around, Jane is now wielding hammer Mjolnir as fellow superhero Mighty Thor and “finally given her due,” according to one critic.

First reactions have poured in for Taika Waititi’s highly-anticipated “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which had its world premiere June 23 in Hollywood. Expectations for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe entry are sky high considering Waititi’s last comic book outing, “Thor: Ragnarok,” is widely considered one of the best Marvel movies.
According to journalists and critics on social media, those expectations were met. Film critic Simon Thompson wrote, “#ThorLoveAndThunder is a vivid and vibrant blast that delivers. Hemsworth’s Thor remains a jewel in Marvel’s crown. Bale’s Gorr is a killer boogeyman blending the campy and the creepy. Portman’s Foster and Thompson’s Valkyrie are a top notch pairing. Crowe’s Zeus is *chef’s kiss.*”

The first reactions are pouring in from critics who have seen “Blade Runner 2049,” and to call them “great” would be a massive understatement. Words like “masterpiece” are being thrown around by more than one critic when talking about Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated sequel, which means you’ll probably want to order tickets right now to what is shaping up to be the most acclaimed blockbuster of the fall.
“Blade Runner 2049” is set thirty years after the events of Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking original. Overall, the reception has been one of enthused positivity, with critics showering praise on the film’s visual effects, along with Mantis and Drax’s stand-out performances. On the latest episode of Meet The Movie Press, reporter Simon Thompson reveals that Samuel L. Jackson is interested in having a role in John Wick 3. According to Simon, "He absolutely loves the John Wick movies. He wants in. He doesn't want in, he wants in with a capital In. Seriously, I think he will do whatever he needs to do in order to get in on John Wick 3."
The John Wick series harkens back to an age of low to mid budget actions movies that Hollywood used to make. When the first movie came out, I initially had no interest in seeing it simply because I hadn't heard much about the movie. Once I did check it out, my mind was blown. It was a simple, low key action movie that was just as intense, if not more so, than movies that some studios throw millions of dollars at.

The role of Cable in Deadpool 2 has got to be one of the most sought after in Hollywood at the moment, as every actor under the sun wants to hop on board the Merc with a Mouth’s next outing. And given how well the first film did, can you really blame them?

When I think of Miranda, the last thing I think about is him playing a villain in a Marvel film, but that's the kind of role that he wants to take on! During a recent episode of Meet The Movie Press, host Simon Thompson said Miranda is interested in taking on the role of the Spider-Man villain Carnage.
“He [Miranda] is a big fan of Marvel. There is one particular character that he would actually like to play, that he has already specified. It’s Carnage.“He [Miranda] said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in [the Marvel Cinematic Universe] as a character,...

Chances are you haven’t seen the Broadway smash Hamilton yet and it’s not really up to you anyways. Even though it’s been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons, the play has been sold out for close to 3 years straight. It has gotten rave reviews and is turning those involved with it into money makers. Among those people is the play’s creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda.
I think it’s fair to say that no name in Hollywood is hotter than Lin's right now and for obvious reasons. He’s talented, he’s charming, and he’s already part of the Disney family of actors. A very loyal family of actors I might add. What does that mean exactly? It means that Lin-Manuel is already in Mickey’s ear. It means that when Mickey talks to his peeps over at Marvel Studios about Lin,...

Lin-Manuel Miranda is currently Donald Trump’s enemy, but he wants to be Spider-Man’s. A report broadcast on the podcast Meet The Movie Press reveals that Miranda apparently really wants to play Carnage. “He said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in as a character, he wants to be Carnage,” co-host Simon Thompson explained. “That’s a goal of his.” It’s somewhat hard to imagine the often jolly Miranda playing the crazy, murderous Cletus Kasady, but perhaps his wish is derived from fandom and a desire to stretch his acting muscles.
Miranda now is deeply embedded in the Disney machine, so if he wants a part in a Marvel movie it might not be that hard to get one. (We’re imagining this could be orchestrated with just a quick call from John Lasseter to Kevin Feige.) In fact...

You might know Lin-Manuel Miranda from Broadway’s Hamilton, which is one of the hottest shows out there right now, but the actor is also looking to make his way into the world of film. He appears to be quite busy, too. After signing on for Disney’s Marry Poppins sequel, not to mention also working on the music for their Little Mermaid remake and cooking up a secret project with Zootopia co-director Byron Howard, he’s now revealed his desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On the latest episode of Meet the Movie Press (via McU Exchange), Simon Thompson talked about an interview he did with Miranda recently, where the actor told him that he’d love to play Carnage in the McU:

On the last episode of Meet the Movie Press, host Simon Thompson revealed that upcoming guest Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) told him that he would like to play Spider-Man symbiote villain, Carnage. Thompson reports: "He (Miranda) is a big fan of Marvel. And there is one particular character that he would actually like to play. It’s Carnage. He said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a Maximum Carnage movie or bringing Carnage in (the McU) as a character, he wants to be Carnage. Genuinely as a fan, he would love to play Carnage. That’s a goal of his." The Disney connection is definitely there as Lin-Manuel recently starred in their upcoming animated pic, Moana, and will co-star in the studio's upcoming Marry Poppins remake. While he doesn't exactly fit the bill of most comic book reader expectations for Cletus Kasady, Marvel has proven that they're sometimes willing...

By now many horror fans will know that Hate Crime, the second feature from director James Cullen Bressack (pictured above) was, last week, refused classification by the BBFC – which, thanks to the increased powers of the Atvod, effectively bans the film from being released on any home formats, be it Blu-ray, DVD or VOD, here in the UK. That’s despite the film screening at Manchester’s Grimmfest in 2012, and it being freely available on DVD and on-demand across the Us (directly from Bressack’s production company website in fact).
In the past week there has been many a post from sites across the web, from folks like Haddonfield Horror and Strange Things Are Happening, not only reporting on the ban but also decrying the BBFC’s actions. However there are some – like Simon Thompson at Huffington Post – who, without even seeing the film and only judging it from the BBFC’s report,...

The BFI has apologised for technical faults on its website, leaving people unable to buy tickets for the 2013 London Film Festival.
Many film-lovers registered complaints to the British Film Institute on Twitter after struggling to complete the pay process online.
Issues have included session timeouts midway through selecting seats and tickets disappearing from online baskets.
This has led to several screenings being sold out while users were waiting on the website.
Apologies to those experiencing issues with online booking for the #lff. Our support team is working hard to resolve. We'll keep you updated
— BFI (@BFI) September 12, 2013
BFI later tweeted: "We're working hard with REDcard, our authorisation supplier, who have suffered a technical failure affecting their clients.
"We're continuing to pressure our authorisation provider to fix the payment issue."
An email address and phone number were also provided for people to book and reserve tickets.

Disney recently held a press screening of "Iron Man 3." And while full reviews are not allowed to go up until May 3rd, the studio gave permission for critics to post their reactions on Twitter. We now have many of those reactions, which are almost all positive. In fact, they are more than positive. The critics seem to still be in shock about how good the film is. Thanks to these posts, we also learned that the post-credits scene doesn't set up any other film. Reviews: * Matt Risley: I loved it. Surprising, action-packed and with bags of energy. Great fun. * Alex Mullane: Iron Man 3 is Awesome. Completely erases the memory of it's dull, muddled predecessor. Marvel Phase 2 is off to a hell of a start. * Charlie The Unicorn: Iron Man 3 is 10000000000 times better than you could ever imagine. This film makes The Avengers (my favorite) look like a joke.

This Is 40 was one of the biggest surprises of 2012, for me at least. Having seen the trailers and whatnot, I didn’t expect to enjoy it that much but it turned out to be one of my favourite films of the year.
Acting as a sequel-of-sorts to Knocked Up, many fans suspected that the film wouldn’t be the last time we see Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann). A third film was expected to be in development and now, director Judd Apatow has confirmed that he will indeed be giving us another look into Pete and Debbie’s life to complete the trilogy.
In an interview with Simon Thompson from Getty Images Entertainment, Apatow was asked about whether or not he will make a sequel to This Is 40. He replied with the following.

Here’s some rather exciting news for fans of Knocked Up and those looking forward to This Is 40 (Out in a couple of weeks) as Judd Apatow has confirmed that he’ll be turning the comedy franchise into a trilogy.
In an interview in London with Simon Thompson from Getty Images Entertainment to promote sequel-of-sorts This Is 40 he revealed he’s been inspired to round the series out after being inspired by classic French film-maker, François Truffaut.
When asked about a threequel Judd said:
“Yes… because I like the series that Truffaut made where he revisited the same character five different times in five different movies. I think it’s fun to see people grow up.
“I’m interested in it with Leslie (Mann) and Paul (Rudd)’s characters… Pete and Debbie… but I’m even more interested in Maude and Iris.

It’s been a long time since we threw our collective voices into the podcasting arena but the Mouth Off Podcast is back with a revised format, some very special guests and an excellent film to get us back on track as we talk about Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming 3D extravanganza Hugo.
We are joined by Cassam Looch from Movie Vortex, Simon Thompson from 5Usa’s Inside Hollywood and Matthew Turner from View London to discuss the merits of Scorsese’s foray into the third dimension and if the film, billed as a family friendly adventure, is as enchanting as we had hoped.
You can read my review of the film here and if you do then you’ll see where I’m coming from but there’s a good amount of discussion on the film’s successes and failures to be had; such a divisive film deserves to be...

80s action legend Chuck Norris is on a “wish list” for the sequel to The Expendables according to one of the film’s stars.
The 2010 summer blockbuster starred Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and Dolph Lundgren and took over $103 million at the box office worldwide. Inevitably, a sequel is already in the works.
Dolph told Upbeat Productions:
Chuck Norris is on my wish list. He’d be great as a General or something like that.
I’m not privy to who didn’t sign for the first one and for what reason and all of that because Stallone was the one who hired people but Jean Claude (Van Damme), who I have worked with before and is a nice guy, was asked and (Steven) Seagal didn’t want to do it but maybe he’ll be in the sequel.

Producer Avi Lerner confirmed that the project is ready to be greenlit as soon as next week if the movie’s opening weekend proves to be dynamite.
Talking to Upbeat Productions’ Filmbeat at the film’s UK premiere on Monday night he exclusively revealed: “We all want to do it, we are already working on it and I’m ready to go. Everyone had such a great time making this. I have done over 350 movies in my life and this is definitely the biggest.”
“We will wait until Monday and see what the (box office) numbers are like but I am pretty confident right now that we will be back and work is already underway (on a sequel). Why not? I know everyone in this would like to do another and I know that I would.
